I am a 1st degree black belt in Jin Jung Kwan HapKiDo. I have went through 7 YEARS of training for my black belt. I started when I was 6. And I find it wert disrespectful for u people going around and training under Kwan Jan Nim (grandmaster) when u haven't. He is my instructors, instructor. I have never met him. But my instuctor trained under him!!!!!
Umm. I'm stuyding Jin Jung Kwan right now, and I CAN use these (keep in mind, I'm a happy little yellow belt). The second technique here (i believe it's outside to inside breaking) is extremely practical. You can do it from a wrist grab (ie someone grabbing your wrist), someone punching at you, etc. I've actually used it in open sparring ^-^
I will try Hapkido soon, Im moving to Korea, but I just don't believe "grabbing a punch" is very realistic, if youre facing a proficient puncher.or for example trying to grab a kick of a powerful kicker, like a muay thai fighter, I think you'd break your hands or something.
But I do like a lot of leverage and locking techniques that I have seen from Hapkido.
this is just a thought I have, maybe after practicing for a long time, I may discover that it can be applied. Ill have to find out :)
I have practice Hapkido during two years and to tell you something selfdefense techniques and Katas(Hapkido don´t have Katas but well) don´t really works in real life or sparring situations theres no pattern for figthing.
no ONE WHO TAKES THAT TIME TO LEARN A MARTIAL ART WHILE HE DOESN'T LIKE IT AND DOESN'T BELIEVE IN IT !!!! SOOO YOU ARE A FAKE GUY TRYING TO UNDER ESTIMATE HAPKIDO.
"grabbing a punch".... I should have used a different term. It should be deflecting the punch and controlling the wrist into a technique. You don't "crouching tiger hidden mobnkey tea cup" GRAB the punch. I'm sorry for the confusion ^-^
as a martial artist, you can intercept and absorb kick/punches: for example if you parry a kick with ur HANDS, your arms works like springs if you keep them slightly bent and relaxed.. for kicks; move INTO the kick before it's complete and you reduce the power by alot.
@Insaniac1985 if you move into a kick you are traveling against the direction of the force making the impact greater (simple physics) so even if the kick isn't completed it will still hurt
You have to time it so your leg bends the opponents arm and thus allows your leg to wrap him up. It looks cool. I would like to see how he applies it to different types of attacks.

Hapkido has a lot of nice movements, but at the same time a lot of unpractical or unrealistic ones. still its a very nice martial art
