I have to defend the beat makers simply because I'm a guitarist of 12 years and I also do music on programs like Reason 4. I understand where you're coming from, but I've pumped 10-15 hours into electronic pieces before. You would be surprised the technical skill needed to create instruments and tick notes. Musical skill is definitely apparent in good beats. Check out Tech N9ne's new shit. Great example of good lyrics layered on great beats.

first of all, rapping is as melodic as screaming is, in most cases. Second, the rhythms and beats in rap music take talent to make and it is an art. It takes creativity to come up with the little melodies that back the voices. Even if the people in the rap scene don't put as much talent or soul into their music as this screaming music, it's still music.
