  • The ANC turned to sabotage as a last resort, after years of nonviolent protest that was met with unprovoked violence (i.e. the Sharpeville massacre).

    Mandela prevented a civil war and ended an evil system of oppression; not only that, but he had the good will to forgive his former oppressors.
