  • might amtrak train i like this consist in this scheme the most then any other amtrak colour schemes

  • THEY ARE FUCKING P42DC asshole bitch ass cunt

  • I'd bet these P40 units are in service again after the ARRA refurbishment program!!

  • Why don't people just rent a car when they get to Florida?

  • @N330AA If I were taking a trip across country on the train and could put my car on the train for a couple hundred extra, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It would be cheaper than renting, it would be my own car and it would make more sense.

  • @dgcasey0325 I agree and i would too provided the economics added up (long holiday). However i can't see how the raw costs are more by renting, so provided the great capitalist machine is working correctly i can't see how it is cheaper to transport your car 1000+ miles or whatever than simply transport yourself and pick up a car at the other end. I guess in part it's because Amtrak is subsidised.

  • Dome history:

    9312 - ex-Milwaukee Road 56

    9475 - ex-GN 1335

    9371 - ex-SP 3602

*Note* I do not know if those numbers are the ones in the train, I just tryed to make out the number the best I can.

  • im going on this one in june!

  • What a mixed bag of coaches...I love it!

  • wow i thought these "genisis" locos got retired but i guess they just got repainted hard to tell when they zip past at 60mph

  • 0:36 says 811 and 832 are in the lead. Huge 6" numbers on the side.

  • they got sold to njt

  • that is so awesome (and looooong train)it is nice to see the old P40's(8-40BP) in the long gone GE interpretation of the phase lll paint,

  • Amtrak had so many domes! what happened to them all. :(

  • Didn't they have superliner survace by this time on the auto train?

  • Wow nice Phase III Action!

  • Are you sure this was filmed in 1994? I thought Auto Train had all Superliner cars by that time.

  • Yes, absolutely sure this was filmed in 1994.

  • @ultragor Auto Train got Superliner II sleepers and a "first class" diner in 1994 or 1995. It ran those with Amfleet II coaches and Heritage buffets and domes until 1996.

  • @ultragor The earliest pictures I have seen of all Superliner Auto-Train were from Spring 1997.

  • That, my friend, is an Amtrak P40.

  • Amtrak Need's to take a lesson from Canada: "Keep The Heritige Cars". They're more comfortable than these Amfleet Cars & the coach cars on the Heritige recline waaaay back almost to a bed position. I miss those cars, Terribly! Amtrak i hope you're listening. Please bring back the Heritige Cars for Old Time's Sake. Great Video. Great Memories.

  • That is not a Dash 8-40B... It's a GE P42.

  • SuperLiners or AmFleet cars... Didn't really matter to me as long as I didn't have to drive from Lorton to Sanford. It was the most relaxing 16 hour ride I've ever had, and I'd do it again! *grin*

  • This is the auto train that I remember most.

  • wow 5***** nice to see the auto train in phase III and that is not superliner! and that looked wierd with the amfleet then these really tall auto carriers

  • also its a p40 or amd103 duhhhhhhhhhhh

  • phase 3 wow that needs a repaint

  • SWEET VIDEO! Wow that train had so much variety back then...TWO full-length dome cars! Amtrak only has one of those on their roster today. 5*****

  • The vid was nice but I HATED how the recorder didn't just let the train past by...I hated all of the senseless transitions and elapsed times in the video. Would have been nice to just have seen the entire consist in its entirety since its very hard to find footage of the pre-Superliner auto trains. Great vid none the less.

  • @Neno8403 THANK YOU!!!

  • good think amtrak switched to superliners

  • Awesome! 5***** Footage!

  • Major hard core historical footage right here!

  • P42's a chuggin' baby!

  • I think at this time(year) and by the road numbers 811 & 832 these are actually P-40DC's....

  • woops, didn't catch the numbers, my bad.

  • Brand new P40s on that one. One of its last runs as a single level train, before they brought in the Superliner II's. Best train on Amtrak in my opinion.

  • The Super Dome next to the Diners is a Dome-Diner for 1st class passengers.

  • @TrainDr101: I must correct my own comment. The dome diner is the ex-Milwaukee dome mixed w/ the sleepers. The coach passengers used the kitchen car, buffet car, & table car that were next to the full dome lounge. When the train was converted to superliner 2's, the configuration stayed the same- sleepers had & coaches had their own dining & lounge cars.

  • too bad amtrak only has one of those dome cars in regular service today

  • I agree !!! The last time I rode a Dome Car was on the "Lake Shore Limited" going 2 Utica,NY in 1994/95 !!! After 1996, I didn't see the "Dome Car" anymore !!! I wish it was back myself.

  • yeah today the dome car is only used in the fall on the Adirondack from new york to Montreal Quebec Canada

  • Is it really? Last I heard it was in California. I know for a fact it cannot fit under the wire in Penn Station without a deactivation.

  • Discovered that in the fall it IS used on the Adirondack, but from what I'm told it only operates between Albany and Montreal.

  • 48 cars, that's an impressive Amtrak train! A very neat look into one of the more unique Amtrak operations.

  • Nice video by the way.

  • 48 not bad I just wish we had all those heritage cars today though.
