he's like a clarinet :O I must say - really awesome video. Azwethinkweiz makes me giggle, especially that at&t acoustic concert video. "I don't knoww the wordss"
@Kratiotic obviously you have never seen them live. Brandon is one of the most talented singers in the business. He is incredible. Just listen to the song a crow left of the murder, it speaks for itself. No hard feelings at all.
auto tune.. its studio standard to use pitch correction on all vocals.. its been in use since the early 80s.. aint it doesnt sound like t pain unless its all wet signal.. hes got nothing on mike patton fools
@kratiotic he doesn't use auto tune go to a concert you'll be impressed it sounds identical to his voice on records he's got some pipes, and mike patton does have great range but i personally don't enjoy his music
Man, he sure likes hovering around that B4, haha. On "Runaway Train" from his solo album he goes up to a nice, quick C5 during the bridge though. He seems to keep getting better and better every album released!
i read the description before i saw the inclusion of battlestar, and i just thought to myself "isn't that whole track scratching? why is it included" then it literally popped up and all I could think was well played sir.
Damm How Does He Do All That?!?! I Couldnt Hit Those Notes Even If I Tried.. Worse Cuz Im A Woman.. Even Tho Can I Sing.. There Is No Way To Get A Teacher That Could Teach Me All Those Notes... Jelous!!! }:-P La Diablita
@mesonox Oh you are missing so much, those are both great albums but some of their earlier stuff is even more amazing. It basically it's them playing music to best of their ability. Not relevant at all, but I do have to say I think Katunich was a better player.
Perhaps a new vid containing some stuff from The Wild Trapeze is in order now? Lots of versatile and dynamic vocal work on there aswell as some amazing runs here and there! Anyways great video!
@eclecticmuso haha I was thinking the same thing. I am working on a new vid, with a little twist to it. It's not focusing on the runs, however, so maybe you could put that together
Whoa... I have a larger range than BRANDON BOYD! amg! Well.. larger but lower with my chest. I can go a few notes higher than Brandon and the same depth, I'm just trying to increase my tonality with my falsetto. God.. Brandon is my Vocal Idol, man. I wanna make music like these guys!
@hefra344 not meaning to be rude or anything, but I think it's difficult to get head voice above falsetto, unless ur referring to the whistle register. That or I definitely missed something... I can get my head voice up fairly high but I can always go considerably higher with falsetto. And what's this mixed voice u speak of? Again, not to be rude, just inquiring :)
@Sixpog mixed voice is head voice with lots of chest resonance so it sound like high chest voice but it is actually low head voice. Mixed voice range for a baritone is commonly E4-B4, and for a tenor F#4 or G4-D5. Whistle register is what i meant when i said head voice goes higher than falsetto. And im the opposite i can get falsetto high but always go higher in head voice
@Sixpog try hitting G4-C#5 in chest voice and then youll understand what im saying. btw mixed voice is tricky because u have to improve its tonality so that it sound like chest
Hey he hits a C5 in full voice in his solo song Runaway Train, I think somewhere around 2:14, and in Pendulous Threads during the guitar solo I'm pretty sure there is a B5 in falsetto, but I'm not exactly sure haha. Anyways he's getting pretty close to four octaves if you include falsetto, which I do haha. Anyway keep up the good work!
@digthewarmth Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure that Brandon hits a B5 in falsetto in Pendulous Threads, he continues to atound me as a vocalist of amazing tonality and versatility!
@eclecticmuso woh, this whole time I've read this as B4, sry. I gave the song a listen and nope, he hits a B4 in falsetto at the highest. unless that's him at about 3:50 of the song lol but I think that's an instrument. The instrument hits a B5
digthewarmth - you are my favorite person in the world right now... brandon boyd's beautiful angelic is the amazing quality of his siren. what a tribute. kudos to you for bringing this forward. well done!
digthewarmth - you are my favorite person in the world right now... brandon boyd's beautiful angelic is the amazing quality of his siren. what a tribute. kudos to you for bringing this forward. well done! - Kua
@digthewarmth head voice and falsetto are exactly the same thing. the part where you have it saying head voice where he's hitting higher almost yelling type notes... those are in his chest voice still. like in the lyric "man this careless thread has gone askew" the part "skew" is falsetto or head voice, the rest is chest. or in the lyric "focus focus" he's belting that out in chest voice.
@digthewarmth no problem! i even thought about doing a video response of exactly what i was talking about but that would have been overkill haha. anyway im a huge incubus fan and know all the ins and outs of brandon's vocals and mikey's guitar parts
@metallicajunkie555 he's definitly a tenor, i was a first tenor in a choir and i have trouble hitting his notes at times, and first tenors are in the higher vocal range
@bodysnatchers324 Brandon is most likely a baritone. Just because your a baritone doesn't mean you can't hit tenor notes. Your range refers to the notes that have the most ease and comfort for you to sing naturally. For years I wanted to consider myself a tenor and did. I can comfortable get to G#4, A4 without going head voice but I need to up the volume to maintain that chest quality. A C5 takes a lot of air, and when Brandon approaches those notes, unless he's in falsetto, he gets loud.
@digthewarmth I really like your video here. You say you are not a voice expert? Are there anyone else's vids you would recommend to learn how to sing properly?
Hey firstly awesome video and thanks for making it. I think he also has some pretty high falsetto notes in Leech aswell but I may be wrong. Keep up the good work and man Brandon's voice is amazing its not just his range but he knows how to use his voice perfectly, Iv'e always kinda wondered whether he is a baritone or a tenor though, regardless of which his voice should at least in my opinion be an inspiration to every muso.

hmm, I'm not hearing an actual note there. I knew he sang really deep in "Damnation?" so I went straight to it, but a lot of the song is just spoken
