  • I have 10 acres on a hill in the tropics . Dominican republic . anyone want to do permaculture there?

  • @bernie018

I'd find that a great challenge. I was taught Permaculture by Geoff Lawton and Bill Mollison. Contact me if you're interested in us working together. guy@dsv.su.se or Skype guyemportugal

  • I think the drumming would stimulate fertility among the soil life. Rythmic vibration seems to promote reproduction even simply for the fact that shaking a cell trying to divide will make it easier... there's also frequencies that sustain and heal things known even to ancient people. Beats and rpms create geometries that are important to life. I question the use of those galvanized baskets though, I've heard iron can harm the soil and that copper is nurturing but there's always new findings

  • Anyone know how this project is coming along?

  • Fantastic - From what I can tell by the video, I believe your swales would benefit by being larger and reinforced with sticks and plant fibers.

  • Naming is deciding, when one calls people names, they have already decided, based on what they were told by others long ago. People who use names miss out on the qualities of tangible things, with all their complexity and their nuances, theirs is a simple mind, one that is easily manipulated.

  • ma'am, you have hippies. They're all over the place...

  • If these sustainable agriculture guys just got their image straight, we'd have more followers doing these great services to earth and mankind. Sadly, we have people who act more like rebellious, hippie like humans who prance around with drums and invoke mother earth like idol worshipers. God damn this world is never gonna get straight is it?

  • @ScopedOUT2 Perhaps being more concerned with image than ideology is a bigger problem...

  • @whorlus No one was arguing their ideology. In fact, image is what most people look at first and that's what you should focus on because you need the people on your side.

Imagine if the Pope said what you said. HA!!!

Maybe they should lead by example and that focuses on image and ideology?!

Use your brain... its probably clouded from all the weed.

  • I was suggesting that all too often people judge by appearances rather than listen to what is being said, and those who reject others on appearance alone could stand to be less superficial. I agree that in order to reach the minds of the conventional masses, perhaps short haircuts and suits would be more appropriate because it would remove the initial barrier of image/percieved lifestyle..

My brain works fine thank you, and there is no weed inside it.

  • @whorlus If those who,re so closed minded can't receive info b/c of the look of a person it is ultimately their loss, nature will cull these "stuck" judgmental peeps from the heard. My husband is a big exec & specifically leaves his hair long to reachnteach those who judge the book by the cover vs its valuable contents, he's doing well as he is high up enough others must listen to him & in the end they see they were wrong in their judgement. Keep on keeping on to those w ears to hear.

  • @ScopedOUT2 Weed reference sounds like you are projecting some issue of your own. That's how humans tend to work, what is your brain clouded with oh great caster of the first stone on those who are doing nothing but positive good! Get a life and stop "shoulding" on others for their excellent efforts. What have you done lately to feed the world and create independance for all who are interested in learning. You're funny

  • @ScopedOUT2 So, all we need to do is have a good 'image'?

  • @ScopedOUT2 The people in this video are human just like you, having inner things that still need to be worked on.Would you rather see them digging in black plastic monkey suits, while a huge stereo playing Justin Bieber's newest masterpiece?Or you can respect them for who they are and that they trying something better for humanity and planet earth.I agree that working all day long with those drumming would be a bit upsetting. And this world IS gonna get straight, and this is a good step towards

  • @ScopedOUT2 You might become a hippy if you spent some time in the forest like a healthy person does.

  • @ScopedOUT2 How dare they not conform to the established norms :p

  • I'd love to get involved with something like that but I think the drumming would drive me mad. Is it really necessary?

  • @Pwecko even if ur anti-hippy, it can be nice to have just about any music playing when you're working hard for long periods of time. I'll take drums over silence. you ever rock out when you're jogging or lifting weights?

  • @711shamonkey I don't jog or lift weights any more. Damaged ligaments in my knees and ankles make it too painful to run and sheer laziness makes weights out of the question. As for music, I love it, but this isn't music, it's just noise, like the vuvuzelas at the World Cup. It drives me crazy.

  • @Pwecko No, Permaculture involves a lot of drumming before and after the planting and sometimes during.

Also you will be required to grow a beard, it is simply not possible to get results without said facial appendage.

  • @hablerz I can't grow a beard. Wat do?

  • @Pwecko yes.

  • @Pwecko I think the drumming would help with the work. who wants silence?

  • Any updates on this? I'd like to see how it's going.

  • Well said, "it is a regenerative process, to exercise our bodies while creating our own food".

  • Maa kutsuu - Earth calls - very nice, thank you for putting this here for all us to see. More documentation please, about every good thing that you do,, to inspire people! Thank you.

Just a hint to every one interested about the health and well being of all mankind an nature: Check videos about FREE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES and EM-TECHNOLOGY, i have some good ones collected to my "favorites". Peace people, Heal the Earth! We have the all the technology and all the tools we need.

  • A gopher is a rodent that lives under the ground. Without a basket the gopher would eat ALL the roots of the young plant and kill it. The basket is not perfect but it would at least keep the tree from dying.

  • that was for polyaussie.

    miniature blessings!

  • Nice! I am creating a suburban garden complete with fruit here in Tampa, Fl. and I am seeing the "fruits" of my labor. I love this.

  • Everyone likes fruit trees. One of the major advances of this type of planting aside from the swales is the extensive use of "support" trees which fix nitrogen and are cut for mulch. These are planted about ten to one fruit tree. Mixing a variety of fruits allows year round harvest. Site ready mulch, contiuous fruiting, water and fuel conservation, a long term view make this approach economic.

  • why do so many great Permaculture videos have to ruined with shitty hippy music?

  • Those are actually very well-played, predominately West African rhythms generally associated with planting. Seems fairly relevant.

  • Great vid! That must have been a fun project to work on. I couldn't imagine so many people working together towards a common goal like that. Must be a great feeling.

  • this is what it is all about!!

I suggest also growing mulch creators on site like comfrey or others to chop n drop so you do not need to haul in mulch. also maybe grow cover crop before planting in between trees to improve soil.

  • Comfrey is quite invasive in this area. I doubt they wanted a plant like that taking over, as beneficial as it might be.

  • The "Bocking 14" variety of comfrey is sterile and doesn't set seed. It can only be propagated by root cuttings. It is quite safe to use in an orchard.

  • Good video. Good Music. It's also nice to see so many people involved with permaculture who see the value of doing it in an urban environment. I enjoyed the bit on swales, but overall It could have been a little more technical. I would have liked to see more explanation as to what exactly I was seeing in the video. What are the baskets used to protect the tree roots made out of?

  • this is the FUTURE

    if we want a future

  • but not many will be allowed to eat the fruit........

  • What makes you say that, stonerj0e?

  • because it's gonna be expensive as hell and there won't be enough to go arround.

  • What do you mean "expensive as hell"? This doesn't appear to be a commercial venture, just a demonstration site. What matters is whether it works, how much fruit is produced for the area of land and the inputs used. I hope there'll be a follow-up vid in a year or so.

  • stonerj0e,

Organic is the way forward - for weed too. :)
