@PungPhooie I think the reason he didn't pull her up was because she didn't want to be, she wanted to die and Woo-jin knew that, and he knew things would not be the same even if he saved her.
When I first saw this I was simply stunned, and even today watching this scene allways chills me to the bones and makes my eyes wet. Although Dae-Su is the hero of this movie, the story wouldn't be so strong without the ultimate antagonist Woo-Jin was. He deserved his revenge. Great character, great actor performance.
This film will allways have a place in my favourite TOP 3 movies ever.
I think nothing can truly and wholly express the depth and the incredible emotional power this film has. It's a real, modern, painful drama that hurts hard, deep inside. I'm not ashamed when I say this movie made me cry the first time I saw it. Intensive, wounderful soundtrack.
The great thing about this movie is the fact that both the Oh Dae-su and Lee woo-jin are the films antagonist and protagonist in a way, as both are out to get revenge on each other, as both of them did wrong to each other..
@edmondleeart@thesurgeon i think using noona over soo-ha makes all the difference. its expression of respect also creates an expression of endearment that makes it all the more touching. may be an over-analysis but thats jus how i see it.
It's weird. When I was watching the film and I saw this scene, I felt nothing at all. But then like a day later I was thinking of it, and I suddenly felt desperately sad.
Holy crap. I'm an off and on user of youtube, the last time I checked this 'brilliant' scene was several months ago when I needed inspiration for a good tragic villain... imagine my shock when I check this video today and notice a comment with a yellow background (to which I think "well, that's odd... holy shit this is my comment!").
@edmondleeart well it means older sister, but in English you don't speak to your sister by saying "older sister". I think that's why they translated directly with her name. It's the same in Japanese also.
Best scene ever.

after the disproportionate shit he did to the main guy, i only had a drop of sympathy left for him. and by god, it was a big drop of sympathy.
as a brother myself, i can see why he did this.

I've never imagine that I feel the same feelin as Woo Jin throughout whole movie...
but this 2 minutes of scene... made me cry like hell... and hurt my heart sooo bad...
and kinda make me understand why woo jin did 15yr plan of revenge...
no protagonist... and no antagonist... both are victims...
so twisted feelin... never experienced this kind of feeling in any movie...
Definitely the best movie in my life... I saw manga too but movie was... awesome...

Great scene but I find it hard to believe that he was unable to pull her up, her legs were still hooked to the ledge, wouldn't take much effort.

Perhaps the most beautiful film I have ever seen. Just, the phrasing of the scenes... The words. Beautiful. Couldn't be improved on.

Perhaps the most provocative, emotional scene I've ever watched. Park Chan-Wook is an artist

The actor who played Woo-Jin deserved dozens of awards for this performance. Such a beautiful scene.

@edmondleeart and in English-speaking countries you call your siblings by their name, not 'brother' or 'sister'.
anyway, this is one of my favourite ever scenes. the music and the way it crescendos is just perfect.
