I hated the red car. They should have kept the Old Kitt and just updated him as they did in the original series. Kitt's Trans-Am look still had that future look to it. all the updates in the red car could have been put in to the Trans-am. I can bet his Super Pursuit Mode would have still been faster then the new police cars.

KITT's original sound is a turbine engine.

This particular car is a completely different car. It's called the KIFT. Knight Industries Four Thousand. As of this movie, KITT had been retired, and dismantled. It was a terrible, terrible movie.

KITT is eventually brought out of storage, and put back into a car. If you truly, truly loved Knight Rider, this movie might be hard for you to watch.

@Draknfyre I know that from the sound, pretty much everyone and their brother (or at least those remotely familiar with engines) that its a turbine, but if you look at KITT's wikipedia page, it actually states that KITT is powered by a *turbojet*, the same kind of engine that most jet fighters use. THAT I call BS on-- KITT may have been faster than triple greased lightning, but not even he was THAT fast (not to mention the lack of a fiery contrail every time KITT started up).

@Draknfyre i first saw this when i was 11, and it was blasphemy. First of all, anyone with an iota of human decency and feelings, would never have dismantled KITT, because he had developed human traits such as compassion, love, fear and a sense of humour. Dismantling him would have been like killing someone. Also, in the original series, Kitt was referred to as "he", not "it", showing he was seen as a person. It was ridiculously painful to watch, and i cried when Devon died.

The whole movie is awful.

They wanted to make another show, and this movie was supposed to be the pilot for it. It never happened, thankfully.

Destroying KITT, killing Devon, these are mistakes I will never forgive the producers for. I don't care if they wanted a "fresh start" for a series without tying down the original actors, it's was like a stab in the heart to do that to them.

I agree, the Trans Am was by far the best looking car of all the Knight Rider machines and the red shitbox doesn't do anything for anyone, but you have to admit, the music was awesome in this, and the banter between KITT and Michael when he reawakes is fantastic.

basically, the deal with the Knight Rider tv-shows is this: "Knight Rider" tv-show with The Hoff. keep it. it's official/part of "Knight Rider" universe/happening.

"Knight Rider 2000" (ie. the one with the Knight 4000): it sucks. lose it. forget about it.

"Knight Rider 2050" (or whatever the name was): it sucks. lose it. forget about it.

Actually Knightrider 2000 did fairly well though it didn't get past a TV movie. The car you see there is a Dodge Stealth modified to look like a Pontiac Banshee IV. It actually wasn't too bad a movie, and you were kinda supposed to hate the car at this point since KITT wasn't put inside it yet. :P

Actually it was the voice of the guy who was driving the KIFT. He was so into the 4000 that he added his own voice for KIFT until Michael installed KITT's CPU into the 4000.

this is a low budget movie that doesnt pretend to be anything more than what it is. having said that, they weren't so stupid as to put cars from the 80's. if you look carefully, every car is precisely from 1991, the year the movie was made. anyway, it's very common to see 9 year old cars on the streets, so the y2k ambience wasnt simulated too poorly. however, ill agree on the fact that they should have thrown in a few modified chevy's every now and then..
