I agree, theres something about the way the lyrics come out. Even though i left Taiwan as a child, i see and feel Taiwan when i listen to him. He makes me wonder what live would have been like had i not left
Hokkien is the basis for Taiwanese---then with historical and cultural influences from others and with a sense of national identity-- it is Taiwanese-- especially from the fact that Wubai is a Holo native Taiwanese. When you hear old songs from Taiwan--it is Taiwanese Folk Song (almost always in "Hokkien"), or better known as "Holo" in Taiwan-- not Hokkien folk song. You just answered your own question-Taiwanese or Hokkien--- For this case--it is Taiwanese. Wubai's song is pure Taiwanese
@500ncb TAIWANESE --language not dialect! mandarin and taiwanese are unintelligible to each other. Spanish and Portuguese are called languages yet--they are understandable to each other--or are they dialects of latin??? Can also be called hokkien throughout se asia. In Taiwan--it is Taiwanese. The language has formed a national identity within Taiwan with influences from Japanese. It is Taiwanese--Tai-gi!
@kjcdpm i know, i know. but like other parts of the world, any country with multiple languages tend to syncretize. so most of them dont speak pure hokien or pure taiwanese. they mix whatever that works.
@kjcdpm are you taiwanese living in the US? you seem very knowledgeable in taiwanese culture :) Apart from being wubai's fan i don't really know about taiwan....... seldom watch their variety shows either......
@500ncb I am of Taiwanese heritage-- my folks are originally from Taiwan. I was born in the US. Taiwanese is a beautiful language when you break it down and listen to its expressions! It can also be very coarse when deliberately so. Take care
@500ncb yea but i hate today's youngsters. even when they sing taiwanese songs, their pronunciation sounds very americanized. the wubai or earlier era has those very heavy taiwanese accent, which I like a lot. Others like Chen Sheng, Luo Dayou, etc.... true 台客。
li si wa er sim kua means you are my heart ...is nt this hokkien ?
