@redsharingman Our students typically use Maya and/or XSI, as well as ZBrush or Renderman depending on what they need. Our philosophy at VFS is very much that software, while important, is just a means to a much bigger end. Thanks!
We deal with every case individually. Your best bet would be to talk this through with one of our Admissions Advisors. Fill in the form at vfs(dot)com/speaktoanadvisor and someone will get back to you soon. Thanks!
to answer the question about not animating the samurai when he animated the truck, it's most likely because hard surface things don't normally have to be rigged. at least for simple animations like that. you can just move pivots or make a quick bone setup. anything that needs to deform has to skinned or aided with things like flexors or lattices for smooth deformation. rotating objects is way easier to do. hope that helped.
the author may be just a normal user like us and already have respond to some posts...
the vehicle seem more interesting to animate... easyer too (just some rigs) , on the samurai there were solid objects (the ammo) and that would be a pain in the ass
(i know my english sucks btw) i respect VFS and maybe in the near future i will go to that school too
yes, you can see that there is some kind of a 'mesh' that covers the avatar. I guess they make a claw model then scan it with a special device and that way it can be seen on the program :)
This is all completely modelled in Maya/3ds Max/XSI. Its basically a whole lot of triangles or polygons sculpted to create the models, completely done on the computer.
The textures would be Jpegs mapped onto the polygons, with layers inbuilt.
skayteforlyph: not a career? Video Game Design? CGI movies like toy story and beowulf? hollywood special effects, comercials, advertising, and promo material. they can all use CG. Sorry your "career" of selling dope in the hood doesnt crack up to a multi-million dollar a year job.
i agree, there are lots of oppertunities for a talented modeller/artist - though lets not get too excited here "multi million dollar a year job" is a major over statement lol, especially when u consider that most cgi films and games use team of hundreds of people and most top end games utilise around 10+ 3d modellers. Id like to know which game studio pays their employees millions of dollars, cos if so im in the wrong place lol
no one, however, i don't think that these guys do it for the money. u can see that they are really proud of what they create. you want an advice? forget the paper, do something you really dig.
Let me guess, you would rather skate for a living?
Much less of a career there, buddy. Good luck with that. This guy has a better chance designing models for movies and videogames than you have at skating and even scraping by.
i never said that.. skating is fun thats it.. im gonna do somthing else but idk what.. not animation or skating.. my friends not going 2 college because he wants 2 skate, hes stupid
what programm do you use ? i am very interested !

what is the top age to be able to get an admission?

We don't have a top limit for students to attend VFS. We just ask that all students by 19 or over, or have graduated from High School.

I think he meant how do you render a wireframe image like was done. Not gonna go right into it, but it's very easy in Mental Ray with 3DS Max
