Throughout the series he's said he's tons of different ages, for example the first doctor might have said he was 1000 but then the 6th doctor might say that he's 300. It's cuz time is a wiblely wobly timey whimey thing.
I still think he could have saved himself a lot of trouble in "Nightfall" if he'd made a similar speech when they were all getting paranoid about him. Maybe also mention defeating Daleks, Cybermen, Slitheen, five versions of the Master, and the Vashta Narada backing off after eating their way through a ship's crew. Then add, "So if you feel like surviving this, back off!"
