nutn what is that pack that you have. im planning a 2 week hiking trip in northern canada and im looking for a decent cost effective rucksack with fram, if you could recommend something it would be appreciated. Keeping in mind hat im on a budget for now:) thanks
@ShadowCompanySW I have had success with the Alps Bryce pack if you like a sturdy external frame. It is medium sized, but gives you the ability to strap things on the outside of the pack (like tent and sleeping gear). It is under $100 Good luck buddy
I bought myself some trekking poles. This last weekend I went day hiking and I was stepping up onto a moss covered rock to take some pictures. Well I slipped and began tilting backwards..
... thankfully I had my poles. I saved myself from what could have been a pretty nasty fall.
Well worth the money.. and yes.. I bought them at REI >_o

Havnt seen a video of you talking about taking care of a dog on the trail so any chance you can do one? I have a husky lab mix from the shelter and I think he'd enjoy early and late season hikes. Been hiking a couple years now but total noob when it comes to hiking with a dog. Do I need to filter there water? How often do they need water when hiking and calorie intake and etc. plan on getting a dog pack from that k9 website i'll tell em u sent me lol
Gota say a close to 40 pound pack on a still growing kid probably isn't the best thing for him. I may be wrong but have you asked a doc's opinion? Still LOVE the videos so keep em coming!
35-40 lbs for a little kid is a bit much. But hey, I'm an ultralighter. I get to enjoy nature and i don't mind doing without creature comforts. They don't belong in the woods.
I have to say I really enjoy these adventure videos. I am the same as you in that I want to get my boy out of the house and into the wild to make memories. The depusification you mention is completely true. Doing things like this build character, give memories and teach self reliance.. that you CAN do things and most things that are worth doing, aren't easy.
Just wanted to say I appreciate this and all that you do here in TNP. You pass along a great message..

@nutnfancy hey you ever think about putting a small camera on allie when you go hiking cause i think some dogs eye view would be something new to youtube and i think it would be cool to see some of her side treks. it would at some weight to her pack so maybe do it on a small hike?
@M0dernWarfare2FAN hahahahahahaha that would be something to see. bear is a little to hardcore fo a nice brisk hike. i thinks bear's style is a life or death like he's being chased

A lot of us are living in the middle of the urban area and the only thing to see for miles around is metal and concrete. You wouldn't say the region you were hiking in? Yeah, like I really wanna alter my schedule just to catch a glimpse of nutnfancy. Get over yourself. Yes you know what you're doing. But Please. @flabeachcomber I guess you would have a point if you understood what he was saying to begin with . Nobody is going to these areas to catch a glimpse of Nutn and that was never even implied. Basically, he's saying that he prefers less traffic to the places that he likes to go, because he likes them quiet and less-traveled.. Your whole rant was idiotic.
@Verilioness Quit boot licking. You obviously missed both points. Talk about idiotic. Verilliones: You really should give some thought to what is implied. But maybe it's too complicated a issue for you to understand.
@flabeachcomber I know I haven't missed his point, because Nutn and I have talked about it many times. Just as he stated, they like the place to themselves. This isn't a new point in his videos, its absolutely thematic. Complicated? Not on your best day...
That much weight on a growing child is very hard on their hip, knee, and ankle joints. It won't show up until later in their life but the damage is happening. Keep their pack weight below twenty pounds. More in the neighborhood fifteen if you can manage it.
heck... a few more hikes and that boy will be ship shape... that's great guidance on Nutn's part. I wouldn't be half as capable as I am now if not for my father pushing me to get tougher. It looks as if You&Son had a great time!
Alright! I love these adventure vids, it looks like so much fun. Im pushing the idea to go on a trip like this with my friends but you know how it is.....(pussies).
Got to say, after finding your channel on Youtube and watching some of the vids, I am a fan. I have been involved in the knife industry for years in the UK and love getting out there and doing it live. I love the no nonsense, no time for hype attitude you have. I also love how you prefer to prepare for the worst case and hope for the best. Positive attitude. Dude, your vids are AWESOME! :-)
Global warming will (in many places) give a higher snow fall in the winter leaving You with the remainings of the the high snow fall late in the summer. The Sun has more snow to melt so it takes longer time before the snow disappears.
@lmglange Dude, the inconvenient truth is, that there is no global warming. The term had been coined by the Club of Rome in early '90s. The idea was to find a proper excuse to tax you in such a way that all the money would be collected by private banks. Al Gore knows that. He doesn't give a damn s*** about CO2. He has got a fleet of jets and 5 big mansions and managed to earn his first billion of U$D on CO2 trading thing. Do your homework.
@lmglange No, but I can read source documents and I'm speechless to the size of the AGW lie.
Have you ever heard of Climategate?
"Great Global Warming Swindle" maybe?
Ever seen this: "In searching for a new enemy [...], we came up with the idea that [...] the threat of global warming [...] would fit the bill" Club of Rome, an UN think-tank. Cool, right?
@lmglange Al Gore's lies had been exposed many times by bloggers, a court and Congress even. Search it.
Ice caps are, yep you guessed it, EXPANDING since ~2008! Google mainstream media footage. Don't believe me, find it on your own. How hard can it be to evaluate, think and draw conclusions, huh?!
I'm a big fan of yours but It's not how much you can carry that's the challenge it's how little you can carry. It makes the hiking part of the journey so much more enjoyable when you don't have to struggle so much on the trail. I think you would enjoy the process of lightening up. It's great what you're doing with you son by-the-way.
Hello nutn, I really enjoy your videos and i'm very gratful to you for making them, but somthing you've said more than once now really bothers me. You seem to not accept climate change as happening.
This bothers me because you have such a big influence on so many people and because you have always come across as some one who cares about handing on the earth to our children.
This may sound like a very strange question but where abouts is this taking place? I am considering doing somthing such as this at one point in my life. I've never been out of my country and would really love to have such a fantastic time like this myself. P.S I really enjoyed watching this :)
Just a quick question, where should I go to look for spots like this? I'm in northwest washington state, and I'm not sure where I could go to do some good backpacking, which I'm relatively new to.
nutnfancy, how did you train your dog to attack and to play with people/wildlife? I have a boxer who is gentle by nature. she once found a baby deer and didn't hurt it by choice, but i don't know how to train her to be aggressive towards people by command.
This is beautiful scenery. I did my first backcountry hike last summer and I can't wait to do a longer hike someday. What a great chance to get out and learn about yourself and see the world.
Wow, that's a lot of weight. Way to go Nutn family!
someone on another channel was saying something about the pack being heavy for a kid. when i was in high school my book bag weighed more than 30 lbs, had to carry every day and walk home 1/4mile from the bus something to keep in mind people.
Great video Nutn' . I spent many a days working with my father during the summer while my friends stayed inside. Hated it at the time, absolutely love what it taught me now. Keep up the good work!
It's cool seeing Last Suspect out and about with you nutn. How is doodle doing haven't seen him in awhile hope all is well. Great video good data points thanks for taking the time to share with all of us on youtube!
Among many other things what I like of such videos of yours is how they protrait the beautiful nature that you have in your country. I can understand how much you enjoy this activity, I have some luck too, here in Italy, living in North/eastern part of it, just close to where world war one was fought. If you happen to make a trip to Italy, there are some places you might want to visit up here.
We did Arches and then Zion (Angel's Landing) last year, and the GC the year before that. Looking to hit Yosemite and 'Half-Dome' late this fall. -- I will say that after discovering hiking and exploring the outdoors, nothing seems to rejuvenate the soul quite the same way. Every time we go hiking I think to myself 'Why am I an IT guy again?'
@SysElim Way to get out there and do some adventuring dude. As long as you can do that once in awhile, it don't much matter what you do for a living. I'm glad to have employment that allows to do it too. Yosemite is a great place if you avoid the crowds. I wish you well in your memory making...take someone special. -Nutn
@nutnfancy hey awsomee vid, i wish i could go on long backpacking trips like this wit my dad but my dad has a herniated disc and other back probs so i realy cant, and it suks cause i would love to do this wit my dad cause we dont really hang out or talk to eatchoter much.plus i love the outdoors.
@john1112112 The Park should have designated parking spots or some may even require permits depending on the park. Or if you wanan adventure in the bush park off some dirt access road or in town. And walk a bit into the woods etc. But I keep to national parks, provincial parks and stuff.
@hickok45 Hello hickok45, thanks for dropping by brother. Yep, I am sure trying. I hope we all can be doing so all along: live with no regrets. Peace.
back in school, i was carring like at least 80lbs up and down 3 stories of stairs, cross a block, and bop and weive through people, get my books, etc. ALL in less that 5 min. granted i was in middleschool at that time, before i started pumpin iron. my pack id aim for like a good 50-60lb bag, i imagine id still have a while to go before i could keep up with nutn. It would be fun to try though.
I have to agree about the RuffWear dog booties. They worked great for my dog in the hot environment of Sedona, AZ. Prevented her paws from blistering and getting chewed up from the long hikes. Also helped with traction, once she got used to them she used them to hawl on the rocks and boulders. Areas where her pads would not have provided enough traction, but the RuffWear boots assisted her greatly.
Nutn, what a privilege it is to get a peak into an awesome father & son adventure. I can't wait to do bigger trips like this with my girls, but for now we stick to car camping & fishing by the river :) All in due time my friend.
Medium speed my ass! I watched Glacier call and you were leaving Crocket behind, and he is a young, fit dude!
I'd go with "Freak of nature speed!"
Great vid nutn! Last suspect is starting to show some real maturity. That moment at like 11:25 when he offers you some of his water. You call to move and hes like, "yep" I was proud of him!
First, Great video, but please tell me you didn't give her(Allie) raisins. For future reference, raisins are poisonous to dogs. Not severely, but somewhat. My best friend is a veterinarian, so I'm not making this up. All in all, your videos are the BEST!!!!!
i SO want to do something like this with my dad but we live in england and therearent many high mountains plus we wouldnt have the dough(cash) to get all the gear
@hikinguphigh,Fat Pete is only trying to sell T-shirts and promote his illigit son singing career.Fat Pete is a complete fool. That bozo does a review of a certain product and decides to sell it because he found a problem with it and a few months later he buys the same gun again.Fat Pete is the definition of White Trash.Sad but true!
Nature definitely stole the show here. What an awesome place to hike and i have to agree with what someone said below...these outdoor videos are my favorite. Great job.
Great video as always Nutn! Nice to see there are still some fathers in the world that care about their children and take time to make memories and spend time with their sons.
Awesome vid, Nutnfancy. Great way to connect with nature and your kid at the same time. Makes me wish I was still hiking, the most I do is camp out these days. Looking forward to part two!
And btw...who are the 10 D-Bags who gave this vid a thumbs down??? More TNP haters, trying to bring you down to their sad level. Keep on doing the deed, brother!
I got a Kelty Red Cloud 6650 (cubic) and it's pretty big, but I still struggle to fit everything, and that's without a packraft, etc. Google ( kelty red cloud osprey 110 ) for a review Vs the Osprey Argon 110. The Red Cloud 6650 is about half the price! Got mine for $160 shipped. Keep up the great vids dude.
Gaiters freaking rock. I like the OR Trail gaiters, and those combined with my Vasque boots means I can trudge through almost anything without taking in any debris or moisture (even in shallow rushing waters as I found out in Zion NP). People laugh at me but I swear by my gaiters.
Hey Veri, does Nutn watch Doomsday preppers on natgeo? I love that show!

It looks as if You&Son had a great time!

Good vid!
lmglange 1 year ago
@lmglange Dude, the inconvenient truth is, that there is no global warming. The term had been coined by the Club of Rome in early '90s. The idea was to find a proper excuse to tax you in such a way that all the money would be collected by private banks. Al Gore knows that. He doesn't give a damn s*** about CO2. He has got a fleet of jets and 5 big mansions and managed to earn his first billion of U$D on CO2 trading thing. Do your homework.

Are You a beliver of the earth being flat to?
lmglange 1 year ago
@lmglange No, but I can read source documents and I'm speechless to the size of the AGW lie.
Have you ever heard of Climategate?
"Great Global Warming Swindle" maybe?
Ever seen this: "In searching for a new enemy [...], we came up with the idea that [...] the threat of global warming [...] would fit the bill" Club of Rome, an UN think-tank. Cool, right?
szybkilopez566 1 year ago
@lmglange Al Gore's lies had been exposed many times by bloggers, a court and Congress even. Search it.
Ice caps are, yep you guessed it, EXPANDING since ~2008! Google mainstream media footage. Don't believe me, find it on your own. How hard can it be to evaluate, think and draw conclusions, huh?!

You migth be right.
I agree with you that banks are running the US.
If you are in to all this - watch the zeitgeist movies here on youtube!
I have been watching the Obama deception.
My main point: do not destroy the only thing me have - the planet! (global warming or not)

Why do you not accept climate change?
Thank you for your time.

This may sound like a very strange question but where abouts is this taking place? I am considering doing somthing such as this at one point in my life. I've never been out of my country and would really love to have such a fantastic time like this myself. P.S I really enjoyed watching this :)

nutnfancy, how did you train your dog to attack and to play with people/wildlife? I have a boxer who is gentle by nature. she once found a baby deer and didn't hurt it by choice, but i don't know how to train her to be aggressive towards people by command.

Nutnfancy, thank you for sharing this.
Have a nice summer with your family.

Every time we go hiking I think to myself 'Why am I an IT guy again?'

john1112112 1 year ago
@john1112112 The Park should have designated parking spots or some may even require permits depending on the park. Or if you wanan adventure in the bush park off some dirt access road or in town. And walk a bit into the woods etc. But I keep to national parks, provincial parks and stuff.
Thanks, Cheers!

back in school, i was carring like at least 80lbs up and down 3 stories of stairs, cross a block, and bop and weive through people, get my books, etc.

Gaiters freaking rock. I like the OR Trail gaiters, and those combined with my Vasque boots means I can trudge through almost anything without taking in any debris or moisture (even in shallow rushing waters as I found out in Zion NP). People laugh at me but I swear by my gaiters.
