  • for some reason this reminds me of going magic mushroom picking in september.

  • I'm not a crying kind a guy but everytime I hear this water flows.....

  • Elbow - the finest creators of those sounds that would pluck the strings of the soul.

  • beautiful beautiful song and lyrics. Makes me want to cry for some reason....

  • God Bless Em...their success was a LONG time coming!!

  • Elbow doesn't just make songs, Elbow make pieces of music

  • @leesox1 A that's a song, I'd say make masterpieces, works of art in their own right.

  • @leesox1 A that's a song, I'd say make masterpieces, works of art in their own right.

  • reminds me of mushroom picking on a cold september morning with a bright blue sky. xxxxx

  • Doesn't the beginning remind you of Sigur Ros? Why are these musicians perfect at capturing the emotion of a sunset, a run through an open field, and the breath of wind all in a 40 second opening?

  • I love it now...

  • the wonderful music of elbow, and others, has woven itself throughout my life in a most beautiful way and I am grateful to those who create something of such value that all people can share.....

  • We had the drive and the time on our hands....

..one little room and the biggest of plans...the days were shapin' up frosty and bright, perfect weather to fly....

  • wooooow

  • After Glasto '11 I'm torn between these guys and Queens of the Stone Age for favourite band.

  • Reminds me of Radiohead, but I love it!

  • @thedoctor2199 Nothing wrong with that pal.

  • my mind is sky listening to this

  • Yes sir a band brave enough to produce different sounds now thats a refreshing change. FUCK THE STATs thats not what we are about , is it?

  • Could some one tell me like...the story behind this song?

  • @blackopsrule it's about when they were a young band together - just starting out, finding their feet and their music.

  • Pffft two years ago I hated this song with a vengeance, and now it's my favourite :3

  • elbow = officially my second favourite band (no one could really replace nirvana)

  • @ouiali feel ya there on Nirvana being number 1!

  • i dont know why but i love this song.

  • For all those Elbow fans...check out Frederik Teige......cut from the same brilliant cloth.

  • out of all the videos i have seen on youtube, the past six or so elbow videos i have watched are the only videos that dont have any pathetic little arguments on them, I dont think its a coincidence!

  • The part where he sings high somehow remembers me a lot of 'linger' by the cranberries, it could just be me though. :p

  • love it

    elbow the maxxx

    sbsc. your channel...really a discovery.thanks

  • love the sound

    sbsc. your channel.

    great to discovering it...thanks

  • how could three people not like this??? are they major justin fans?

  • I've only discovered elbow recently, and there are only 2 songs on this album that I like,so I might listen to the other albums and maybe i'll have more luck!^^

  • @cyborg0018 this is their weakest albumn (but still i am surprised you only like two songs). check out asleep in the back. that has a lot of good songs..

  • Brilliant song!

  • thanks to Peter Gabriel, just discovered this amazing group. Really like this sound. I definitely want to know more about them.

    Great music.

  • I so agree!!! First time on national TV here in Norway tonight, and I was so amased!!!!! It just gave so much solace and answers I have looked for for so long in music - and here it was!!!! Where have they been all my life??????????????????

  • so beautiful

  • hadnt heard about this song but it was on hollyoaks 20 seconds ago.

  • @wordy81 yeah I saw that

    it was ace on there.

  • love the LS Lowry inspired cover...

  • beautiful !

  • i love elbow like a fat kid loves cake its music for sittin on the balcony on holiday watchin the sun go down with a drink and when you arent there it makes you think of bein there amazin!!!

  • @noelsplectrum9 - I'm a recording artist in the USA. We have no idea of this band in the states.

I stumbled upon them by accident and realized that my softer songs are quite like them, in a way.

let me know what you think.

    best, B

  • @novanine9 no problem bro!!! its a shame that our best bands dont get any recognition in your country elbow, doves, spiritulized, the music, kasabian etc etc those bands are absolutely amazing if your not into them get on it!!!!

  • @novanine9 - Wow, I have not heard anything from these bands that you have mentioned. I, def, give them a listen!

Have a chance some my tunes a listen?

My song Sparkle She Glows and the bright nights are quite, brit like...I think, at least.

Most of my influences are from the UK

Beatles, Bowie, Oasis, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd...the list goes on and on.

  • i am high as a kite from this track....

  • it was fun while it lasted b.

  • on 1:22 he says somting that looks very much in duch at my dad's bikexD

  • goosebumps and chills caused by the sound of perfect music.

  • Nothing could sound sweeter. Nothing could sound better.

  • reminds me of this girl i use to like in middle angelica pennetta most beatiful girl i ever saw. i fell in love with her from day one. and i told her and she cried. and what i dodnt realize is she liked me to. and i wasted all that time when i could have been loving her.

  • You say "use to" ... not together anymore?

  • we never where together...she was more so a prep and well i was the one who went out at night with my freind criss looking for fights. low class people like me never get the ones we love, when we do we loose it, its like butter, you cant hold onto it, i guess i was always looking to belong but never did

  • For God sake man! Tell me all Elbow fans are not as soppy....she cried? was that out of dispair?

  • Sorry to say, but all Elbow fans are soppy gits- myself included lol

  • not all of us....passionate yes - soppy no.

  • @hawksmere fair do's- it's still amazing music...even the least passionate or soppy can't deny that :)

  • now that i agree with x

  • you are 10000% right darlin i seen them at the abc last year and me and 2 friends were cuddlin welling up like fuck and we werent the only ones elbow have that effect even on us hairy scottish guys haha

  • Excellent song. check out the elbow choir on facebook when they played at the MEN on 18.09.09. type elbow choir into the search bar

  • amazing!

  • his voice sounds a little like dave matthews

  • one of my all time favorite songs. incredibly expressive

  • does someone know other bands like this ??? ..... please write only similar .....

  • snow patrol are pretty similar... they do different stuff in every song

  • Thats a fairly inacurate statement O think. I like Snow Patrol, but a lot of their songs seem similar.

Elbow are a lot more diverse, and all of their music and lyrics have a depth to them that takes more than the casual listen to really appreciate.

And I love them for it.

  • i mean they have a lot of different meaning. And besides, the riffs are amazingly catchy

  • @Obliviater Ever listened to Big Big Train?

  • @howdyfeller Can't say I have, a band or a song?

  • @howdyfeller Kinda ended up answering my own question, took a look at them on your channel, just finished listening to "Summer's lease", pretty good. Will take a further look at them..

  • @Obliviater They are pretty impressive, unfortunately only a few songs here on Youtube, but i have 4 cds and all of them are fantastic pieces of art. I recommend getting a CD and listening from start to finish. The Underfall Yard and The Difference Machine are both good cds to start with :)

  • yeh but elbow are better.......

  • oh don't worry I know that

  • a northern chorus

  • radiohead, coldplay, muse, mew. They all have their own sound but they are the closest I can think of.

  • Doves sound pretty close

  • Great song

  • they where amazing at pinkpop, first time i had see them live, but defintly not the last.

  • how did they access my frontal lobe?

  • ye how do they do that???

  • @martyschoo they caused my intermissionary cortex to enflame.

  • their best album yet..........and a worthy mercury prize winner for once

  • i saw them friday at pinkpop.

    they are so amazing.

  • HOW could you not love 'em! ....and why wouldn't ya' try...perfect weather to fly!

  • Great,Great,Great!!!!!

    Amazing Band,

    singer sounds like the young

Peter Gabriel. Really like it !!!

  • this is such a pure song!

    prachtig!

  • I never really listened to Elbow before but as soon as I listened to this song and Mirrorball I got goosebumps.

I was so captivated by the songs that I couldn't move, could only sit there and listen, completely motionless.

It's not very often that you can say that about a band. They're amazing.

  • kippevelmoment

  • I love the way this has no chorus, just a steady stream of emotion

  • dude i feel you on that, thats why it soo amazing

  • the best

  • rocks!!

  • Quite simply one of the best and most important British bands of the last decade. Wonderful songs and lyrics. One of the best bands I ever seen live (five times since 2001) ... keep it up lads, you touch so many peoples hearts. Quality. Cubed.

  • i've only just started listening to elbow, i heard grounds for divorce on an advert for something ages ago and only just found out who it was by. loving most of the songs i have listened to so far.

  • My 4 year olds favourite band!

    They sound like Elbow!

  • and peter gabriels voice.

  • This band sound good. It's the second song of their I hear. They sound like something between Coldplay, Travis, The Verve and U2 from the early nineties (mainly Bonoish vocals in the background, something like Bono in Lemon or Numb).

They'll be supporting U2 on their new tour. Hope they'll kick asses!

  • In my opinion Elbow are at their best with uplifting, simple melodies such as this one, you'll notice that their songs are quite repetitive, and they feel designed for huge crowds to chant them, the feeling at an Elbow gig is one of informality, happiness and inclusiveness, you don't have the affronting ego of Bono or Chris Martin and the song is as much the crowd's as it is the band - best seen live! :D

  • Heartkicking tracks.. well done them lads...

  • deserve every accolade....classic new album......will never tire....every track is awesome....go to bed with some1 u love...and put this album on...

  • so relaxing, and so emotional, love it.

  • Bof. Un peu mou, un peu chiant

  • theres no better influence!

  • Fantasic song. These guys deserve to be better known. Praise needs to be heaped on them constantly.

  • new fan here!

  • this is a really good band but i think radiohead is the best one ;)

  • agreed, I have to admit I only discovered this band from reading radiohead forums. Apparently radiohead likes this band too. Mind u its a whole different sound so u cant even compare the two. I like this band alot though, its soo mellow :)

  • Yes....exquisite.

  • emotional.............cant spell excuisit....or emotional

  • Hehe, exquisite. :3 You spelled emotional correctly, though.

Yeah, this is actually pretty damned nice.

  • maybe it's just me but i find this song the best in this album .....eventhough i dont understand it :D

  • I prefer Starlings or The Bones of You,but this is a great song

  • Elbow > :insert any band here:

  • I saw this band last night in Cardiff and they done the most amazing version of this beautiful song. What a GREAT band this is. By far my favourite album of the year.

  • How about best album in the last 2 milleniums...

  • touching song ive been himming this song for nearly as week , its one of those ones where as soon as you wake up its in my head which suits me fine

  • brilliant

  • Dnt fall in to the "Coldplay trap"

  • tbh I don't think there's much danger of that.

  • Coldplay should have won.....just being realistic here....I am not disputing the quality of this band, but it's just contradictory to do great at the Grammys and not to win anything at the Brits... :)

  • america love coldplay....but here we know our music...says somthing when kings f leon have to come to the uk...to gain recognition they deserv .plus coldplay are wank compared to elbow no competition

  • It looks like it is still down to people's tastes' and how they are different and how they possibly cannot be changed. I was listening to Elbow the past few days and I came to realise they have much potential, and I really like their music and especially their lyrics and rhytm... :)

  • maybe the gammys got it wrong?

  • i´m from southamerica and i love british bands

USA is full of black music like rap, r&b... that sucks a lot and they are the kings in that country

rock n roll and rock are music not r&b and rap this music styles are poor

  • more aceness from elbow. hehe :) :) :)

    LOVE IT

  • I love love love Elbow! Nobody I know has ever heard of them.. I guess the world just isn't ready for them. They deserve much more attention.

  • they deserve to be huge you're right but it's probably better they're not. might change the way they make music if they get more commercial and not many of their fans would want anything changed.

  • Change isn't bad. I'm sure Elbow will always stick to their roots: Deep lyrics, a heavy beat, and new, fresh music. I'm sure they wouldn't forget what they mean to their fans even if they got famous, which they will.

  • Seldom Seen Kid to win Mercury Music Prize!!!!

  • You should have placed a bet on them winning.

  • did they win?!

  • Yeah they won, it was big news yesterday. Don't you read the papers?

  • I had seen them at a virgin music instore proformance in 2001 and they just blew me away i had never heard them before and now i have remained a fan ever since.truly one band that i will always hold close to my heart.i'm so proud of how far along they have come

  • are we having the time of our lives?

are we having the time of our lives?

    are we coming across clear?

    are we coming across fine?

  • What a beautiful album

  • a very original band this song realy touches the insides and u dont want it to leave

  • elbow are a band that i have constantly tried to get people to listen to, take to their gigs but in the main had no results! I honestly can't understand it, this song is a perfect example of music that touches the soul through its lyrics and beauty, I cannot fault this band!

  • i just love this song, just beautiful.cant wait to see them on monday

  • I will see them on wednesday 25th in Amsterdam Paradiso, can't wait, there so relaxing, beautiful songs!!

  • I love this. I love Elbow. Yay :D

'The Seldom Seen Kid' really is a must-have album.

  • My second favourite track on the album (after Grounds for divorce). Gourgeous harmonies.

  • what do they keep repeating?

  • are we having the time of our lives?

are we having the time of our lives?

    are we coming across clear?

    are we coming across fine?

  • Amazing song from an impossobly good album. Elbow are so good they're simply off the chart, nobody touches them for their combo of lyrical depth and musical genius.

Rafaelbh25, Google it, it's on teh intrawebz. Better still, buy The Seldom Seen Kid, the words are in the beautiful album sleeve.

Kertap, i don't THINK the beginning is from another track.

  • Is that part at the start from another song?

  • What a little gem of an album, my first Elbow CD and liked what i heard on first listen, great stuff need to see them live now.

  • Bigfatfletcher, The Seldom Seen Kid is your frist album? if you love this album you will certainly be impressed with the other 3!!!

  • absolutely beautifully crafted song, they never stop amazing me ,with every album a work of art. genius!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This album is just utter utter geniuns. Perfect songs. More people need to recognise this band - they're vastly under-rated!!

  • Please, someone have the lyrics of all the song of this album of Elbow??? I need it so much!!!

  • Classic Elbow, yet something else again

  • Stunning....

  • My favorite elbow song so far. The album is stunnig.

  • I instantly loved this song.
