  • the groove, the lyrics...and yes her gorgeous lips

  • The SEXIEST MOUTH ON MTV ~ EVER!!!!

  • Best L.A. band since The Doors!

  • this was my shit.... good songs back in da day

  • Martha Davis. Never thinner than in this video.

  • Great group. Sooo underated and underappreciated.

  • Could you please upload the video montage of "Forever Mine"

    Plase, please, please.

  • Martha Davis always looked so mature and sang like a night club singer. She was not appreciated during the 80's like she should have been

  • A beautiful sound...and a very original style.

  • The emotion in this song just comes right at you. None of us haven't felt this at one time. This is what's missing from todays' music. This is a masterpiece! Long live the 80s! Just take me back to 1983 and freeze it so I have to stay in 1983-1989 forever!

  • @wccwmark74 I agree 100 percent. And the video is almost as good as the song itself. Very dark, forboding, eerie. PERFECT

  • The emotion in this song just comes right at you. None of us haven't felt this at one time. This is what's missing from todays' music. This is a masterpiece! Long live the 80s!

  • She is SooooOOOOO awesome! She CAN do anything~!

  • i bet those big red lips give great blowjobs.

  • @bigjim10011 You are a brash asshole! How about go FUCK yourself!

  • @bigjim10011 not really

  • I rmeber having this on a K tel record. The 80's, thank god I was a teen. so different now. Music today has no diversity as it did back then.

  • I grew up in the 80`s, and all I had was my radio. Lived way out in the country so there was nothing to do except work. My escape was music, I listen to more 80`s music than anything else. 80`s music was fresh and it was real, it wasn`t this crap today with auto tune and other crap that makes it sound fake. All you have to be is eye candy today like sucknia twain and britney spears to be a star. In the 80`s you had to have talent. That`s the problem with music today, theres no talent.

  • i love this song i been doing this at karaoke for over 10 years still love singing it.

  • Another good song to add to my list of 80's favorites.

  • Another great song from the Motels :)

  • I just listened to this song for the first time and I thought she was saying "only the lonely get laid" LOL

  • Im planning to sing this song as part of my audition for the wedding singer musical:D

  • Sorry but martha fucking HOT!

  • Matha needs weiner.

  • <3 <3 <3

  • This song reminds me of my ex-boyfriend. It would play on the radio after we drove back to his place after bowling in Richmond

  • You mention the time we were together - so long ago well I don't remember all I know is it makes me feel good now :(((((

Those words are some of the best lyrics written in music history

  • Martha just performed this at LA Pride tonight, and she both looked and sounded amazing!!! Love her

  • kids today dont no what good music is...they a good with flashy vidoes..but cant sing are compare to theys old vidoes..i can remember when mtv and others started makeing vidoes...i tell my age i no but late 70s and 80s had the best vidoes of all time...

  • best decade, great music, they don't make it like this anymore.great memories would do it all over again. totherythem

  • This song reminds me of my first AM clock radio I got for my birthday when i was ten. Takes me back to those days so clearly. Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • Man they played some dark, moody shit. Love this band.

  • I love the motels and other bands and inquire with some saxophone reallyblends well with her vocals guitars blend well thankyou qflash haha

  • does anyone remember when they were on the same tour with " The Cars"?

  • Ah, the lighting, the class, the story, the atmosphere, the music & song - somehow it all seems to fit together like it should. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

  • what is it about a sax that just makes a song?

  • One of the greatest songs of the era, a great hit. Also one of the original classic

videos. The work all gave Martha Davis a platform to showcase her magic. A great singer and beautiful woman. Cheers Martha.

  • i was 12 years and i love the dark ness when this song came out. and i love it. i love bands with saxes

  • love this era of music......lots of good memories! miss those days...

  • oh Martha we need real singers again....love this and suddenly last summer...evocative and haunting....and you look so glam

  • Real song. A real woman too.

  • there's a difference between BEING ALONE, and BEING LONELY..

  • love the way that sax wails!

  • I live in TX but had my son in late 1983 in MA (too hot for me in TX) and this was a huge hit. I remember having my son and while there going to my life long dentist , etc. for good measure and this song was on the radio constantly!

  • It's all gone down hill music wise. It's all teeny bopper and 'hip hop' or rap crap. I looked at the top 10 just now, Rihanna, Justin B, Usher, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert. It's all crap. Look at MTV now, there is not one show on that show's videos, Teen Cribs, 16 and Pregnant, Date my Mom. Its sad. Lady Gaga has 120 million down loads, this one has about 1/2 a million. Nuff said, this generation is sucky when it comes to music.

  • @bigdsears You are quite correct! Today's music is absolute garbage compared to the 60's/70's/80's. BUT, here's my questtion to everyone who recognizes this "WHY have we let it get this way? WHAT have we done wrong?"

MY answer is this: We buy the crap! As such, the music producers keep on producing it. We MUST find a way to say" Either produce songs that we USED TO LIKE, or we will buy nothing!"

    Next case!

    Dr. Harvey

  • @333harvey333 : I know why you're here, @333harvey333. I know what you've been doing... why you hardly sleep, why you live alone, and why night after night, you sit by your computer. You're looking for him. I know because I was once looking for the same thing. And when he found me, he told me I wasn't really looking for him. I was looking for an answer. It's the question that drives us, @333harvey333. It's the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.

  • @bigdsears Its not ALL bad, but I generally agree with you. Actually, I can't remember seeing a video except for VH1 Nocturnal States when us "old folks" can't sleep. I think when they started the game shows and started getting real sponsors the game changed for the stations...I miss the days of the Vjays.....

  • Martha is the best

  • Only the Lonely can understand me at this moment in time.

  • Love this song and Suddenly Last Summer, but they kinda make me sad, especially when last summer is when you were with someone that broke your heart...you think about it the summer after.

  • This song is so sad.

  • very nice

  • Everytime I hear this song, it reminds me of my ex-boyfriend. Are you out there Linds?

  • music like this is only a memory.

  • I love the fade out on the piano with a hint of sax. Music was so tastefully layered back then and had such personality!

  • Martha Was Smashing. Screen Queen Looks and a phenomenal voice, which hasnt faded over the years. The first time I saw this, I just set with my Mouth open Thinking, " Oh My God...." brings back some great memories.

  • gta vice city stories i played it when louise died

  • She's easily one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

  • Man... still really powerful. Martha really hits it.

  • seen them last summer in pershing square last summer they are still my favorite

  • They were good.

  • This song is one of many that reminds me when MTV was new and in its heyday. Wish those days could return!

  • If I am up at 3am listening to this song then

you know Valentine's Day is going swell....just

    swell.

  • I can NEVER hear this song and only listen to it one time. It's one of those songs that you just FEEL with every fiber of your being

Only problem with it: it's not long enough! Should come back w/last 2 verses after the guitar & sax interlude then do the last chorus.

  • @donnebonn hahaha yes, I always listen to it three or more times in a row.

Beautiful melody and deep intense feel to it. And of course, takes me on a trip back to '82

  • Song makes me cry, every time, for a better time in my life in the early 80s, no worries or stress. Missing California.........so dam beautiful.....

  • WHAT Music today can capture feelings and emotion like the 80s and some 90s music? None no fucken one. Pure marketing music now. Music crap.

  • Practice, man, practice!

  • Her voice reminds me of Siouxsie.

  • I love the 80's slow motion vids.

  • I always really liked this video.

It seems inspired by "The Shining".

  • I would not have picked up on that but you are right! Jake Nickleson goes to an empty barroom and ends up talking to a bartender that is not there. And then there are people in the bar. I think you nailed it. The Shining is the best scary movie of all time.

  • It's songs like this why I wrote "Willie Means Well (But It Don't Work Out Sometimes) available at Authorhouse 1 888 280 7715. bilbo2shire

  • I love that her mouth is slightly crooked when she sings..it gives it a certain unique charm, like Billy Idol's claim to fame snarl.

I miss singers like this... she is one of a kind.

  • LOVE you Martha!!!

    LOVE your Red Lipstick!!!

  • fsadfsadf

  • i was like 8 when mtv came out and me and my cousins would watch it for hours, awesome artists and tunes and videos would come out of no where it was awesome, the videos and music now are horrid

  • it's amazing the rush of past feelings and emotions these songs bring back. i can actually feel the adolescent joy, peace, security i felt as a young teen when i first heard this song. it's a shame the selfishness of divorce had to destroy that fragile innocence.

  • It is so true, I hear a song and I am right back there, or I smell a fragrance and instantly I am at that moment again.

  • Maybe now your divorced you can break the IGNORANCE that got you married in the first place. Not being a prick. But only the lonely can play.

Married life hey. The lock and shackles to one person and denying the openess to feel another soul for your whole fucken entire damn short life. Coz ignoranc is bliss. Il marry this girl i met at the zoo and FUCK everyone else. COZ im a Budgie, Churp churp

  • Nice Roy Orbison touch on those final notes.

  • WOW...LOVE THIS SONG,THE 80S ROCK!

  • Not sarcastic . What happened to martha? She was my love as a kid.

  • Martha Davis, the lead singer, reformed a version of the band called The Motels featuring Martha Davis, in 1998; as of 2008[update] she continues to appear under that name with various line-ups.

  • True she was at a small nightclub named Schooners in Lancaster where I was a bouncer...in 2000-02

  • According to wiki, so validity is of question....

  • What a classic 80's tune ! I'm sorry but today's music just can't compare ! I can listen to this song every day !

  • This was one of the first videos played on MTV back when MTV didn't even run commercials just music videos and VDJs. If you were watching this back then the next video could have been StrayCAts, or Billy Idol, Judus PRiests. We would leave MTV on for hours. I liked the MOtels then and still do. I think I have their cassett laying around somewhere

  • You're so right ! I miss those days !

  • I agree with the other posts here, I've always liked this song and The Motels, I just wish I hadn't been such a music snob in the eighties, the good thing is that now, I do listen to a lot of the stuff I wouldn't have back then. Older and wiser I guess.

  • Truly one of the last great ballads of the'80's. Soon those atrocious "power ballads" would pollute the airwaves. But this is music and it speaks about the human condition. I was 12 when this was a hit and loved it even then, but now as an adult I can relate to the lyrics deeply.

  • HeRe in1982! / GoNe in 2009!! Sort oF!!!

  • She is really saying all in this song sit and really listen to the words! It is really haunting!

  • i kinda agree with falldownhard. for me though it reminds me of the 80's. no responsibilities, no stress, just having to deal with my life and no one elses. i wasnt married yet, my kids werent around yet. living in california doing my thing.

  • This song is so intense and profound in its dark simplicity. Few songs are truly "haunting" and this one is. Sometimes I can't listen to it because it puts me in too dark a mood for some reason, but the paradox is that's exactly why I love it so much. I was 19 when this came out, probably part of the reason it gets to me too much now. Lost innocence.

  • There is a certain melancholy that runs through the Motels best known songs, Suddenly Last Summer evokes a similar mood to this one. I'm kind of glad there isn't a lot of saxophone in pop music these days, but there were a few 80's bands that could make the sax work, Quarterflash and the Motels among them.

  • @falldownhard Hey I was 18 when it came out and was a hit; I always felt the same way. My favorite time to listen to this tune is during a very rainy and stormy day or rainy night.

  • @falldownhard 100% exactly how I feel! True words. Even though it is approaching 30 years ago it was bad (OMG) it still rips at the emotions. Although Bette Midler's The Rose can do that, Only the Lonely makes one feel so deeply sad or moved and no matter how much we have moved on reminds us of past loves/pets/family/places etc. Well said falldownhard

  • @falldownhard I agree falldownhard just watched it brought tears to my eyes ,I was 20 . this getting old is for the birds I miss my youth and the 80s a much simpliler time.

  • today's songs, (as well as movies!!) seem to miss out on the simple. everything has to be computer animated, or over done! (ex. todays cartoons just stink on ice) My kids, and former step kids grew up on this stuff!!!! It's what I showed them- it's now what they love. I love the 80's!!

  • I would hop a ride with you, my friend!

  • 80's were the shit. Wish I had a time machine.

  • I'm 34 and I love this song! I have brothers and sisters who grew up in the 80's, but I have to say that it's still the best decade ever! I don't remember ever being unsage anywhere. Especially going to the skating rink with my brother and sister. It sad b/c I can't even send my kids anywhere by themselves now-a-days.

  • @chinitax24 I agree. I am 32, and the 70s and 80s were the best decades. There is such negativity out there now.

  • ditto marcass67

  • I was born in 1945 so my life is nearing the finish line, but I must say I feel extremely blessed to have been exposed to music from a very age. Everything from Bing Crosby to Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, all types of Blues, Ray Charles, the Doo Wop era, Motown, The Beatles, Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix, Doobie Bros. Steely Dan, and all the other great songs of the 70's & by all means the 80's, and even today, if you look hard enough, there is still good music out there. John Mayer for example

  • The old man at 2:20 reminded me of Bob Barker.

  • i thank god,my life was a soudtrack to such artist as duran duran,go west and the cure.when music was music.some times i almost feel like ballin.if i knew then what i know now,i would of cherished every moment, from 79-90.

  • i couldnt agree more my friend. i miss the 80s so much.

  • I know!! I wished I wouldv'e taken more pictures back then, esp. of just people at malls and places as they sported the outrageous fashions of the day.

  • This is one of those songs that just comes together so well. The subtle synth in the beginning, then where the drums kick in, and the sax toward the end, just a perfect song. It just doesn't get any better. Pure 80's awesomeness !

  • This is just too good. No wonder it was a smash hit for them.

  • i second that motion.the 80s were gods gift.

  • Yeah... So glad I was alive in this time period of the history of the universe. Wish the '80s could have lasted for eternity... Well, I guess now they do in the land of youtube...

  • beautiful song!!

  • I Love 80´s so much....im my opinion this song is a little sad.

  • Yeah, it's a little sad b/c it reminds me of the '80s. I can't tell u how much I could rewind time and relive this time...

  • GOOD ti makes you a little sad. Hell you can come over and root my sister! No seriously if it makes u sad then go with it. FEEL the song and it can take you past this 2 dimentional mundane bullshit lie. Watch the video and music loud. And feel every note. Feel. Watch it in a warm stormy night. Leave shutters open. Turn lights out. Empty the pollution. i could go on :-)

  • Maybe this is one of the most emocional songs that make me remmember each moment in my life... since i was a child, All the happy and Sad moments , are mixed in my mind when i listen it...

  • thanks 4 share this song is one of my all times favorites !

  • love love love

  • I LOVE this song and it is the epitomy of my 80s memories all culminated into one in this glorious song ! Thanks!!

  • The 80's were a great time to grow up in. The music was proof of that.

  • 1982 is correct...IMO the best year for 80's music with 1983 a close 2nd.....

  • ....Sonic Alchemy....

  • I remember having this song in my head when I parachuted out of a C 7A over Sicily Drop Zone at Fort Bragg. To this day I remember that jump and this song in going over and over in my head.

  • That's amazing! I don't have nearly as exciting memories as yours associated with this song... but it sure does take me back, too.

  • cool video, cool song!

  • Yes, this song came out in summer 1982.

  • Imust listen to this song daily,it actually keeps me sane.God works in mysterious ways, the 80s are gods gift to me.

  • wow its been 8 months since listened to this song and i still love it

  • A Lovely Tune Sung By A Beautiful Lady. Nothing today can come close.

  • like the song on GTA is it only the lonley conplain or only the lonley can play.

  • nice vocal phrasing on verses

  • i close my eyer and im in 1987 and i dont want ti leave

  • Hey...this song came out way before 1987! I graduated in 1987, and the music was not this good then! This song touched my soul in 1982/3ish.........it still brings me peace, as well!! :)

  • I love this song , it brings back memories

  • From the golden age of the music video...

  • This song has sooo much emotion ,i am i lala land when i hear it,i am totally on memory lane to where i was 17 and the girl i loved was my life.Ineed a time machine to go back and do it over again,oh god do i

  • It does have that quality, doesn't it?

  • yes it does, many 80s songs are awesome.Iloved putting my drakkar on and chasing girls in guess mini skirts

  • Yeah...remember the minidresses that were basically a sweater that came just below the ass cheeks? And then leg warmers! Drakkar Noir SO exemplifies the '80's. Take it easy, man.

  • Drakkar Noir!

    Haha, me too

  • I really love this song!! One of my all time favs from the 80s, but I loved almost all of them! An amazing decade of music!!!!

  • Hoooooooly. I haven't heard this song in an incredibly long time. I don't even know if I was born when this came out. My mom played every hit from the 70s and 80s constantly when I was growing up and so I know this song perfectly but had no idea who it was or what it was called or anything.

    Thanks.

  • What happened to Roy? :(

  • I'm 17, and I love this song.

I was SERIOUSLY born in the wrong decade :/

  • Bless you! I was a teen all through the 80's and I welcome you with open arms!

  • Lucky, so were my parents, THANKS :D

  • I was a teen as well during the 80's. I couldn't imagine growing up any other time. Those days were absolutely the best!

  • Thats ok,the music and movies are still here.Iwas born in 71 and i remember going to the movies to watch weird science and the breakfast club,i really do and i loooooved it

  • Ditto. I was so happy when VH1 classic on memorial day, they showed all the 80's music videos from A-Z

  • Oh I know me too!! I called and requested Children of the sun by Billy Thorpe and the Dj was like how old are you? And I said 15. He so didn't believe me!!! I really wish I was born int he 70s so I could been there in the 80s!!! :P

  • Helluva TUNE!

  • My husband used to sing "Only the homely complain"

  • Why don't you take your time machine to _1984_ and protect Sarah Conner from some psycho cyborg who'll be back.

P.S. - "Only the Lonely Get Laid."

  • This song gives you that FEELING !!! anybody over 37 should know what I'm talking about!

  • Ido dont ,i was born in 71 and i remember this playing on the radio,no song today can come close

  • I'm hearin ya :)

  • Always liked Martha Davis' voice and that group. Caught if first on MTV back when I was in college.

  • this was back in the day when mtv was good!
