  • this is pretty bad compared to the original. far too slow.

  • @jshnicl When Lou Reed plays these VU classics now, they sound like shit. Fuck all of you superior music lovers out there who tell me I'm wrong... just listen to his recent versions of "I'll be Your mirror". WAY worse than this, it's embarrassing. He just can't sing anymore, but I am happy that he still wants to go out and perform. But the original Sunday Morning is good because of the dreamlike, beautiful melody that Lou sings, this bullshit doesn't even compare.

  • Great performance of this song but what's up with the tai chi guy?

  • great song, i like the cello in this version

  • Check out Juan Javier Bautista-Sunday

  • I love this performance, thanks for uploading :)

  • lou always looks like he's fucked up

  • Comment removed

  • @dirtydawg62 you are fucked

  • lou is great...but...the original song...

  • @dirtydawg62 i wan to tell you this: it's not his singing, it's his voice & the music & the lyrics. this song is about suicide. listen to what he says and think. the next time you will hear this song it will be a special moment. it's not simple, but try not just to listen to this song, but go deeper. you can do this thing for a lot of lou's songs. it's for me to explain because i'm italian, but i hope you understand it.

  • @dirtydawg62 Based on this performance I can completely understand your point of view. Personally i didn't like it that much, much because the original is much simpler. Although, his singing is not the problem, like Bob Dylan its not what really matters. Also, if you listen to the velvet underground I can almost guarantee that you will understand that its not all about being hip...Even if you don't like psychedelic music, they have a lot of calm or pure rock'n'roll songs, a great band.

  • I´m sorry but with all due respect Lou...loose the Tchi Chi guy

  • No that is Fernando Saunders Playing the Guitar And singing the Vocal with Lou Reed , But Fernando also is a Bass player , Great Performance , By everyone :)

  • Is that Steve Hunter playing that keytar?

  • It's nothing on the original album version tbh.

  • The Tai-chi man is always there in Lou Reed performances!!!! I love that guy :)

  • OMFG...I LOST IT WHEN THAT ASIAN DUDE STARTED MOVING OR DANCING OR WHATEVER....BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • great performance. love it, thank you

  • lou reed sunday morning

  • I love this. I remember seeing it the first time on Letterman so I searched for it. I'm glad I found it.

  • What The Fuck is up with the asian dude?

  • Wow

  • Gerard Malanga, Ronnie Cutrone , Mary Woronov, were the original dancers for the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. I remember seeing this on Letterman and being blown away by it's power and originality. The dancer is in the tradition of the earliest Velvets shows. It is fantastic uncanny postmodern amazing that Lou thought enough of the history of this song to feature this particular dance interpretation along with it A+

  • I find it amazing this guy is such an amazing songwriter...but his performances are aweful!

  • the music lou does is and was great, we've all got a dark side that we rise above. some people r open about their dark side and lou was....he has overcome alot and it shows, but the overcoming he keeps close to his heart and has not shared ...so pleeese enjoy the music...:)

  • Cello *.*

  • Lou's voice, especially these days, sounds oddly like he couldn't care less about sing the right notes. He could hit them, he just sounds as if he doesn't give a stuff, so whenever he has to work for a note, he just falls off it.

I also prefer the original, although I would like to hear how Nico would have sounded singing it.

P.S. Apparently Nico did the backing vocals in the original, but I can't hear any backing vocals! Can anyone explain to me where they are?

  • @NewhamMatt amazing comment, i agree with you. it`s like he doesn`t care to hit the right note, or maybe it`s just something he cannot avoid, the way he finishes some sentences. and them it`s like spreading throughout the song. he doesn`t develop the melody for the voice. maybe he thinks it`s his trademark, who am i to say something. i mean, he`s one of those cases that can do whatever and we still love him :) i`m gonna play it differently though. just heard the song today for the 1st time

  • I'll definitely take the original over this thing...

  • lou reed, dylan, cohen all blew out their voices smoking.

  • @MiscMudkips i think that drinkinkg is the main reason. you know, heavy drinking

  • I talked to that girl playing sello in Tampere Finland, she was drinking cider, did not want that I would take a photo of me and her cause she did not have make up on. Lou Reed gig was great. Lou´s better than the rest of us.

  • I keep hoping that the Tai Chi guy will attack Lou Reed.

  • lou reed would kick his ass with his street hassle tai chi

  • For all Lou's friends !

  • Lou Reed wins in every sense of the word. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @10027NY hang on. you don't agree with me and therefore assume my feelings towards this particular performance must be the result of my being poor and living in a small town? apart from being wrong on all accounts in terms of describing me, anyone who uses a term like redneck in this way has some serious issues they should spend some time analysing. redneck? not so much an argument as an indication of your own bigotry.

  • Lou Reed's problem is he can't sing and play guitar at the same time. His studio vocals are great.

  • @googuse I think it's age more than anything.

  • @googuse 40 years ago....

  • @googuse He does it on purpous.

  • @googuse He does it on purpose.

  • Listen to James cover of Sunday Morning. One of the best ever! Search for "James Sunday Morning" at Youtube.

  • I like it, but have to avert my eyes from the leaping martial arts guy. Also, I liked the original cos Lou sings on pitch, which he doesn't manage here. Bad monitor speaker?

  • it probably would have been better if lou reed had died already. i mean really what a hack.

  • @duskyeldorado and how long shall we wait until YOU die? please do it quickly ;-)

  • @nimatek667 well thank you, i mean who doesn't hope for a quick death, certainly preferable to one of those slow deaths. but hey look, while lou reed is one of the greats, this particular performance is just hilarious.

  • @duskyeldorado i definitively exeeded, sorry... but wishing he'd died because of some bad performances is exaggerated too. he's 68, a legend and with his interpretations still able to give me shivers.

maybe i took it too personal. sorry again, wishing someones death sucks

  • J'aurais bien vu Serge Gainsbourg chanter avec Lou.

  • sounds like a bad cover of himself. Give it a rest Lou.

  • @0000Duke0000 your high!

  • his voice has gotten stronger? are you kidding me? what makes the origional is his singing and in this hes hardly singing.

  • what a classic...seriously though what's with the tai chi guy??kinda ruining the vibe hahaha

  • teach me.... oh dancing yoga master!

  • is that a keytar?

  • Twee vd prijs van één: Lou Reed brengt "Sunday morning" live, en ... vreemd genoeg ... staat er een gast Thai Chi te doen op het podium.

  • wow is that really singing?

its more like talking the lyrics

imho the original is so much better, he should just quit doing this song

  • yer an idiot. this performance is a masterpeice.

  • I love it when Lou looks at the japanese guy like "WTF are you doing?"

  • fuckin awesome, asian guy is cool too

  • Lou's got a gorgeous tele!

  • Sunday morning

  • amaizing

  • why an asian guy is making like tai -chi ?

  • I think its kinda cool. I mean, why not?

  • @axelhendersonn that is Master Ren Guangyi, Lou's Martial Arts instructor, many believe thats what keeps Lou so young . Personally, of all musicians on the face of gods earth, Lou is the god of rock and roll, all the greats came from the inspiration of the velvets. Not saying Lou WAS the velvets, but he is the greatest invention in all of rock and roll, inspired countless greats.

  • @axelhendersonn ¿for transmit peace?

  • @axelhendersonn The same reason they're making music

  • @axelhendersonn Well, it's Uncle Lou and one of his masterpieces. We kinda forgive him for the tai thing, don't we?

  • @axelhendersonn I think it's a reference to the idea of "morning" when tai-chi is normally performed.

  • @axelhendersonn typical sunday morning scene

  • @axelhendersonn he was just a fan

  • @axelhendersonn hes lost buddy lol

  • @axelhendersonn That's Lou's Tai Chi instructor. Lou is a Tai Chi and Kung Fu enthusiast.

  • @axelhendersonn lol xD

  • @axelhendersonn why not? haha

  • so sad, people talking and showing such an appalling ignorance (besides other things): that's not a dancer, nor a yogin: that's Master Ren, and he's performing Chen style Taijiquan, which Lou Reed also practises

  • Lou Reed and Master Ren are performing this style of Tajiquan on each other naked in bed. Which is cool. Also why Lou Reid was waterboarded and electroshocked as a child.

  • why thank you for actually explaining that.

  • hahaha the yoga dude. I love how Lou is still crazy creative and almost seems like he'll never lose it.

  • amazing lou reed fuckin legend

  • WOW, COOOOOOOOL!

  • always great song .

    but the chinese dude..

  • This is more more appauling than slavery

  • viejo culiao canta las weas de temas bien !!! y que mierda es ese gordete bailarin!!!!! no podi matar tus propios temas viejo fleto ! igual es la raja el tema :D

  • no escriban como hablan porfavor apesta

  • was the interpretive dancer necessary?

  • miyagi rules

  • when was this

  • not terrible

you guys know cobain died partly because guys like you demanded he be something you wanted, right?

  • this is terrible

  • ugh. terrible. i think if you played this to 60s lou he would throw up.

  • lou wrote this song in the 60s, it's on the VU and Nico album

  • i am aware of that. it's just a really really cheesy performance.

  • no shit sherlock

  • Yes Fernando Saunders plays many instruments , it looks like he is playing a Fender on this song .. he is a great guitar player as well

  • Fernando on guitar?

  • como la corneta la wea de canción....

  • yeah, what instrument is that?

  • ah, it is...

    "Starr Labs Z-Tar Mini-ZS"

    midi

  • Beautiful Vocal Work By Fernando Saunders

  • What instrument is this , that you have the same loudness of the xylophone?

  • what are the asian guy doing?

  • Tai Chi.

  • Chen style Tai Chi, I think this form is called Yi lu

  • I like the album version more, but hes adjusted to his age, and rewrote the songs to fit the person he is now.

  • that's true..he even did an electro dance version in 2004 with the girl from Vanessa & The O's, uncle Lou never stands still!

  • Man I dont wanna sound like a jerk but grunge is crappy music compared to Lou's work, The Velvets were loud and agressive but they had some melodic qualities as no other seattlesque band.

    Cobain was ok though

  • great!!!

  • What's up with the Taebo dude?

  • Really love this song, on the one hand its so relaxing, but on the other hand theres that dark edge around the whole piece..

  • beautiful!!

    Love it!!

  • i cant believe theres so many negative comments on this vid. i think its a slowed down emotional chilled out version of the original, and i personally prefer it. i could fall asleep listening to this gorgeous simple rendition, lou seems to approach it like a tired old rock star, which he pretty much is, but he still has it, and i still love him. thank you for posting this video

  • i was in college, in '78, and peeps were yelling his name.

    'lou' over and over again

    He's timeless.

    Lou Reed is forever.

  • Comment removed

  • don't know where Lou picks up his inspiration funny though, playing Taichi is really a common routine in parks every morning in cities there in China...Taichi playing is very reflective with the title of the song, the tranquil, the frozen, the still, the time flying Sunday Morning....love you Lou you are the best..

  • I don't get this performance. They make the song really boring and monotonous. Christ though, who knows... maybe that's what Lou Reed was going for.

  • I love Lou Reed,in my eyes the man can do no wrong.

    Keep on rocking Lou.

  • the cello girl's in love with lou :)

  • lou reed was better in his early days in my point of view, now he sounds like johnny cash whos RIP

  • I guess his tai-chi instructor needed the gig.

  • fuckin' drugs !

  • the final is awesome

  • Sunday morning was one off the first songs late '60. Someone was telling it was a time of spirits.

This video and performance looks like bad shit.

Sunday moring of the late '60 was a song made high in the sky with spirits living in the air. You can not do it again.

  • Thanks for sharing,sheik--It made my Sunday--Saw him in concert at Amnesty International in Denver--way back--He sang with Clapton & Peter Gabriel---God Bless--Geege

  • looks like a monkey but sings like an angel. i like the other verson better though

  • Lou Reed is ugly but he's a fuckin' good singer!

  • I don't know about this version.. it doesn't capture the old feel at all, creates an all new interpretation which is fine, but nothing like the original.

  • the vu version he sings it so drifty (if thats a word) in a good way, it was relaxing. i dnt know this is still gooood

  • pretty good i guess...def not as COOL as VU tho lol

  • the velvet underground version is 100000 times better than this one

  • ...aaahhh lou reed was in the velvet underground

  • I know that, but the old version with the velvet underground is better

  • But did they have a dude doin Tai-fuckin-chi on the record? no.

  • LMFAO THE ASAIN DUDE IS DOING TAI CHI AT FIRST i THOUGHT HE WAS JUST BEING WEIRD LMAO AHHHHH LOVE IT EVEN MORE

  • this song never play in live?

  • i love how mellow this version is. if the sound was a bit better quality i would save it as an mp3 and listen to it

  • What's up with the dude doing Tai Chi?

  • I love the original, but I really don't like this one. I wish he would have sang it the way he did on the recording and the instrumentation made it sound so corny.

  • estupenda version

  • I like the original better but this is pretty good.

  • Sorry - I've now remembered - Strawberry Switchblade's version is the one to listen to!

  • naw man, the original studio version is the one to listen to.

  • This is a wonderful song and I think X-Ray Specs did a (much better) version on a B-side - hopefully someone can find and post this version? Thanks!

  • lazy yet great, lovely, soothing song. this is my first time to hear this song. i love it. this will surely be a part of the long list of my favorite! PHILIPPINES pINOYS)hello friends and countrymen lend lou reed your ears and listen to his great song!

  • lou reed é o cara!

  • yeah the karate guy has to go. reeks of new age. otherwise an ok rendition of one of the greatest songs ever written

  • i would feel the same way if i found out my hero was a loser

  • and this is the most worthless comment ever seen on youtube.

  • and?

  • What on earth is that karate guy doing to his right.

  • He's the restless feeling by his side.

  • my grandma could do better lol

  • Uncle Lou, uncle Lou, uncle Lou!!!

  • Quiet quiet beautiful - Love it.

But seems like it's not only the world that's behind you, reads like half your fans are a long long way behind you too.

  • watch out the world's behind you

  • what's the use in saying that he's not the same as he was, of course he's changed. it's not for better, it's not for worse, it's just change.

  • I love the guy, I love his work, he is amazing songwriter, lyricist, musician - but I can say objectively that is voice sounds bad here.

  • Nice video!!

  • Lou's voice has seen better day's.Too bad!

  • very beautiful version. i miss lou's old voice though

  • maybe lou didn't notice the dancer was there and at the end he was thinking "what the fuck"
