I ran this video over and over again, Brown hit Hudler within 1.0 seconds of the pass. As a dude doesn't give a damn about either team, it looks to me like although it was a bit late, it was no 5-minute and game misconduct hit. Brown got the penalty not because of what Brown did, but the fact that Hudler's head was down and he fell like a sack of potatoes and smashed his head on the ice pretty hard. The public wants answers when guys get hurt, and unfortunately Brown was a scapegoat.

yea this was definitaly a clean hit. wasnt a charge, or an elbow or a forearm. didnt leave his feet. also all the wings fans will be like omg he elbowed em. i want them to actually look at the cbc footage of the hit. you can clearly see a shoulder not an elbow. hudlers visor cutting himself and that no time took off the clock. was a clean hit all around. hudler also will learn to look after he makes a shitty pass and mopes around the nutreal zone with his head down.

He's gotta keep his head up in this league. Admiring a pass will lead to trouble and with Brown already committed and Hudler lowering his body into the turn brought out the worst in this hit. This was unfortunate but undeserving of a suspension. Although, if the league wants to be consistent, Brown will miss 5 games (the same sentence as Brashear, although both hits were arguably clean and caused by the other guy admiring his pass).

Maybe worth a suspension, but the hit looks worse than it was. You see a lot of late hits like this in a hockey game, but usually they result in a guy losing his balance and no more. Hudler had an unfortunate body position, and even then, only a fraction of a second and he doesn't get hurt.

So yes, it's a late hit, but Brown didn't go out of his way for a dirty hit. He probably intended to deliver a normal hit, but circumstances worked against him. That's why you need to avoid hitting late.
