Thanks for your interest, Graham. I play this in standard tuning. I've simplified the head to just alternating Em and A7, to Am7, D9 and back to Em. The verse is alternating B7b9 and Em with a F#m7, B9 turnaround. The bridge goes: Am7, D9, Gmaj7, Em, C#dim, Cmaj7, Bm7, Em. I don't know if Elis ever recorded it.

You both have accent, but the pronunciation is good. It's interesting to see foreigners singing in Portuguese. Did you study Portuguese and/or sing other Brazilian songs?

@LoyalNancy We haven't studied Portuguese. We're just imitating the vocal sounds of the version by Sergio Mendes/Brasil 66 on this particular song. However, I have posted many other Brasilian songs on my YT page where I'm actually singing the words as I see them written.

@gnukev, I watched some of your songs and you really imitate well, something difficult for people that do not know a little a language. I guess that if you tryed to learn Portuguese, maybe some people would be in doubt if you were Brazilians or not, despite your features. By the way, see in YouTube DESFILE OKTOBERFEST BLUMENAU 2010, a party in the South, where there are many Brazilians of North European origin. So, if you lose the accent, you could be "Brazilians" singing...

@gnukev, it's very difficult to lose the accent completely, in special because Portuguese has many nasal sounds. I know some Americans who have lived a long time in Brazil, but never lose it. See in Youtube SCOTT FEINER, a New Yorker who lives in Rio de Janeiro and plays very well a Brazilian percussion instrument (pandeiro). Don't worry, your accent is not "bad", after all, it shows that foreigners feel interest and like our musics.

@csinanas Thanks for the compliments, but we're actually only singing syllables that more or less sound like Portuguese and I have simplified the original chord progression, as well. I have a Japanese friend who really does love this song and understands and appreciates it very much. There's a huge Japanese community in Sao Paulo and there's much love for Brazilian music there AND in Japan.
