  • I've written it in Guitar Pro 5 : h t t p : // w w w. mediafire . com/?o41c448bc9eq87g (remove the blanks in the url so it can works)

  • great work Dirk..thanks for all the hard work and also for the site...it really help me alot...GOD bless you

  • for a second i thought that was a gibson citation. i almost shat a brick xD

  • nice stuff and great tone, lots of melody with shells (3rds/7ths) on the middle 2 strings can go a long way

  • Ok nice but learning to play this is simple. The hard part is to improvise over that harmony.

  • Sounds pretty damn good, hope to play like that someday, what amp and settings are u using,?Im new to jazz guitar so im very curious so i can at least get a decent jazz tone for starters.Thank you

  • THIS WEBSITE RULES PLEASE MORE VIDEOS AND JAZZ GUITAR LESSONS!

  • This is one of the most helpful lessons I've come across. Easy, and nice sounding at the same time. I keep looking for chordal playing material but I find only either a) dull sounding excercises or b) stuff that is very complex, like Joe Pass transcriptions. I'm at the stage where i know basic chord shapes but want to figure out more interesting ways around the fretboard, without going way overboard. I found the ideas in this lesson to be easy to utilize. Any suggestions for similar stuff?

  • @jdean9 You could have a look at "creative comping concepts for jazz guitar" by mark boling. It's primary focus (as the title states) is on comping, but it is in such a manner that you can use the ideas etc to make your melody playing more interesting. A lot on quartal harmony (extremely useful in a slightly more modern jazz setting). Should also check out bireli lagrene's version of "stella" from the "standards" 1992 album. In my opinion, a very tasty rendition of stella : )

  • Your website is so awesome, thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I have been playing for 18 years but am new to jazz guitar and this is helping me a ton. I think I'll cancel my guitar lessons and donate to you instead...

  • The generosity of guys like you to share your knowledge is humbling and appreciated... muchisimas gracias.. Jay

  • Very, very, nice.

  • I really like this. And...it's something you don't have to be Jimmy Bruno to play. :)

I think your web site is one of the best on the web.

  • barak : It is very cool and a simple way to start playing the satandard melodies, this way of playing the melody could be valid for like a trio format.

    Helpful

  • Nice rendition. That may be my new practice song

  • Outstanding...smooth like butta.

  • why cant we download videos

  • Wow, chord-melody style is probably one of the most difficult to master. It takes years and years of REAL hard work on both theory and practice. You make it look like a piece of cake! BTW, your web-site is awesome! Keep your lessons coming!

  • Awesome! love the tone!.

im thinking about the roland JC

do you think theres a diffrence bitween the old JC and the new ones?

  • Hi Dirk , nice lesson and fine presentation, should it not the camera was not nice front centering your playing of left hand . But it's small detail anyway .Thanks for this lesson and the tablature of the chords ... I always learned most by playing together with a melody so this is really wonderful help.Nice "add and aid" to your site .

  • Is there a pedal i can get to make this sound or is it just the style of guitar you have?i know some jazz chords and i can never get it to sound like this

  • ...pretty tone.........

  • Great sound and Nice song, thanks !

  • I like the arrangement and your sound is warm, nice to listen in a night session in a jazz club,,,,,

  • Great sound, pleasure to watch Thanks Ron

  • I like this arrangement! I think you learn more by figuring out the arrangement by ear, not by tabs.

  • Nice... great sound and picking style.

  • Thanx man...........I like the way u pluck the strings with ur fingers for that subtle effect

  • funny you should say that because your mother seems to like the way I use MY fingers too...for that subtle effect!1

    Great job. Your new friend.

    Mike

great arrangement for my level of playing.

    You play real smooth Dirk.

  • Very good playing, and nice arrangement, Dirk. keep up the good work on your site

  • beautiful, accessible arrangement. many thanks

  • Great lessons, but even greater tone. That looks like one hell of a guitar. I have an Ibanez GB100 and it seems to leave a lot to be desired in tone, but that sounded great. A pleasure to listen to. :)

  • this is a wonderful arrangement and your email lessons are also very nice unlike others that try to make you by something instead of actually giving you some pointers

  • excellent and wonderful site you got, thanx for everything..bale,, god bless.

  • I know this arrangement, it from Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen cd called to a brother, there is some great playing there..

  • Hey Quint, this is my own arrangement, never heard Pedersen's version. I'm looking for it online, but can't find it...

  • This was excellent. Beautiful tone and arragement, so full of immagination. I find this video lesson and your site very usefull. I have never seen lessons that are so straight to the point as yours. You really opened up many doors for me. Zhank you and keep the good work. Filip.

  • Excellent arrangement! Just the type of soloing that I like.....soft jazz treatments of the standards. Great Job! Thanks for sharing!

    I love you, man! :))

  • bar 2 (A7b9) The G note should be on 2 and not 2. Bar 6 (Bb7) same again for the first F.

  • Yep, you're right, thanks for the feedback!

  • This is great. Thanks for posting and thanks for the tab. You have made a few mistakes in the tab regarding placement of notes. If you need some help with transcibing just let me know.

    Greetz, Uwe

  • Hey Dirk, loved this video. You have a really smooth tone, similar to George Benson, I love it.

You play so smoothly, too. A truly experienced musician.

  • Hey Dirk, erg mooi en een leuk idee om op deze manier beter gitaar te leren spelen :-)

  • What part of this was a lesson? Nothing was taught?

  • The link to the lesson is on the right hand side of the video window...

It's time for me to replicate this !

    Well Done...

  • My guitar is an Ibanez 2455NT, made in the 70s. It's hard to find them nowadays, sometimes you see them on Craigslist for about $1750.

  • Hi Dirk,

Thanks so much for all the help. I have now learnt Stellar by Starlight. Could you give us some more jazz guitar standards where we can see and hear you play it and download the guitar tabs. How about 'Mack the Knife' or 'Blue Moon' or 'Moonglow' etc etc. Thank you

  • hola muy buena interpretacion desde venezuela le saluda un amante de la musica.grasias por la partitura de esta cansion.dentro de poco la tocare .

  • Excellent+++

  • Jazz guitar just the way I like it. Very tasty! Keep up the good work.

  • nice guitar

  • does anyone know where i can find more jazz standards in tabbed easy to play, yet good-sounding versions (like this)?

i know jazz is supposed to be about improvisation but i feel that i learned a lot more from this than other stuff that i've found - i just need to get something going . And i find simple stuff better as a foundation for making my own variations anyway

transcriptions of joe pass etc is just too heavy for me yet. i just end up learning half of tunes

  • Not withstanding to the tune, here's the thing. It's not about tab, it's about chords. You gotta memorize a lot of them. Until you can just PLAY a Dm7 or a Cmaj9, wait it out and learn the chords from songs you like. After a while you will learn the arpeggios, and can begin to improvise, whi
