  • thats awesome you did that with that little knife

  • pocket puusy !,, haha,, thats classic.

  • is this private land? if so, good idea for leaving the guts. otherwise, on state land, i'll clean it up so others don't get pissed. haha good doe!

  • @mattman12893 My man, no-one cleans up guts. Why? Other animals (skunks, chipmunks, foxes, etc) eat them for food. Its not illegal and perfectly proper to leave them where you gut your deer.

  • Did I hear the deer fart at about 4:40 of the vid?? I'm pretty sure our hunter caused the recently deceased deer to fart! Maybe it's just the camera man farting... a little squeaker at around 4:40.

  • i like the vid alot but i would always sugest cuting around anis and cuting beside the sternum sorry for bad spelling lol this whay it is easy to rake every thing out i loved your vid it shows all those out there that do not know how to do it

here in texas you are suposed to field dress and tag before you transport bow season is starting soon and it looks like it is goin to be a good one

  • lol, wow a pocket knife..

  • Good vid. I tie the front legs up too. then they dont get hung up as bad wile dragging. Good vid thoe.

  • This is the first time I've ever seen someone gut a deer with a Swiss Army knife. Hats off to you for that... Where at in Pennsylvania were you hunting? I'm in central PA (Huntingdon County) and we rarely get any snow here in deer season - which is bullshit.

  • @mscmatt Ever since they changed Buck and Doe season to a combined season, there aren't as many hunters in the woods when it snows.

I like hunting in snow too.

  • Excellent video hope to see more in the future!

  • I'm just glad someone mentioned something about saving and eating the heart and liver. No other video says anything about it that I've seen.

  • nice size doe

  • man i dont use little gloves and all that, I just cut from the rib cage and then rip the organs out

  • I leave the gut pile, comeback and hunt over it for coyote!

  • Great vid!!

  • it takes you a long time to gut one. i live in wv i gut one in like 5 mins maybe because i hate gutting deer so i hurry and get it over with :0 good vid though lol

  • Come on guys did you have to curse and mention the pocket pussy, It was a great learning video but it just makes us hunters look bad.

  • Obviously, you've never gone to hunting camp with real men. If that makes you squeamish, you better stay home and nurse on your pacifier.

  • This is a really good instructional video. Thanks for the upload lads. Good hunting

  • u can use the organs for sausage if you take the time to get the food and crap out

  • Yeah i think you leave them and then other animals eat them think . .. .. .

  • What do you do with the spare organs. Leave them?

  • The only organs we use are the liver and heart, both which can be prepared any number of ways.

As for the other organs, I've never heard of other uses for them. Would be interesting to hear otherwise.

  • The "spare" organs are left behind, and other animals will eat them.

  • im fairly new to hunting I was wondering what you do with the remains after you have completely gutted the deer?

  • The gut pile remains in the woods and animals eat them: mice, vultures, fox, bobcats, mountain lions, bears, weasles, coyotes, etc. The bones are disposed of by the butcher. The antlers: your wall or sold to firms that use them in art, the hide is also used in the leather industry.

  • I just want to eat the shit outa that deer. thin slices of meat cooked with onion soy sause salt n pepper mybe with some french dip. yum. its in our heritage and our birth right to hunt and eat deer. how else do you think man servived, of grass and flowers, I think not

  • Well, certain herbs do add a pleasant flavor to the meat! And a nice bouquet of flowers on the table, with a bottle of cabernet for company! :-)

  • just wait till you get a gut shot deer them things will make ya puck if ya aint gotta stomach trust me but hey my life revolves areound huntin

  • Yea, gut shots are messy. I had one when I was a novice. Best policy is not to try trick shots, but be 100% sure of your target, and select the largest target: the front 1/3 of the body.

  • But the constant headbutting between pro and anti hunters doesn't do any good. Nobody has to change their beliefs, but if we didn't start insulting each other all the time maybe there wouldn't be so many negative stereotypes on both sides.

  • Pro-Hunters aren't ramrodding a belief down the Anti-Hunters throats. The Anti-Hunters want to take away from us a primeval freedom. Anti-Gun, Anti-Hunter, Anti-American....all the same to me.

  • right on.

  • i tell ya, people that are against hunting make me sick....ITS A WAY OF LIFE, you hunt to survive, least i do where im from...thats just how it is....these stupid fucking city boys that post up there stupid little comments about animal rights honestly need to be taken in the back 40 and shot in the head!!!!

  • Circle of life

  • good video, i recently started a you tube account and have a similar video of my dad doing a how to gut a buck if I can figure it out i will post it

  • wow! great job gutting the deer there is a place that guts deer and hogs for us one time we went there and it was closed and we didn't know y the next time we went there we found out that the guy that owns the place got hurt and will open back up next deer season I think so we have to gut them our selfs only one of us r fast

  • I am going on my first deer hunt ever this September, and will be gutting my first deer ever, and the first animal in over 25 years. I needed a refresher, thanks.

  • I live in the woods in western PA and come from a family that grew up in Pittsburgh (non hunters). I always wanted to go hunting and this year I bought a nice 336 Marlin and am going. I cant wait to start a tradition. Thanks for the video guys, I learned a lot.

  • Who uses a pocket knife to do this lol little unorthadoz but nice deer.

  • You can gut a deer with a shard of glass if you wanted to. The only downside to a Swiss Army knife is that the blade doesn't lock. I like locking or straight blades. Swiss Army knives are good enough, this proves it.

  • as a deer hunter, i laugh when people say we shouldnt kill deer, i wish that for 2 years we would stop hunting to show dumb activists how dumb they are when they realize that over population would occur and when farms dont produce any crops due to damage and car/deer accidents go on a tremendous rise they will be begging for us to shoot deer and shut up! haha!

  • and mike vick got 2yrs for dog fighting! this is crazy, ppl go out and kill deers and mutilate them and no jail time. who cares if deers are domestic or not

  • I just had to approve this bozo's comment for the entertainment value. Firstly, we kill them to eat them. Secondly, gutting an animal happens with cows, fish, chicken, pigs, and other animals too. What's wrong with that? Get a life bozo. You sound like a vegan.

  • Dear "TheDon"

Go fuck yourself. Deer hunting is as old as man itself and helps maintain the population of the whitetail deer.

  • if we didn't they'd over populate you liberal fuck

  • y dont u shut your little city, wussy tale up. go out with all that money u got and buy your little fancy 500$ food.this is why deer are put here.for food.ur probably gay and love that vick any way. he got locked up for doing an illegal crime. this is life and nature so shutup.

  • lol i'll kill your dog dude you dont like deer hunting get the fuck out of america homo

  • nice deer

  • ya know I was hoping to find out the correct way to gut a deer until the comment about "I gotta get all these turds outta here"

That is a great way to tain the meat.

  • One of the most informative field dressing videos on youtube. Very clean pictures, good audio. And done with a small swiss army knife. It shows that technique is more important than the latest gizmo.

  • I LOVE going to Cabellas....all those cool toys. But you know, a good pocket knife, a rope, and a gun is all you really need. All the rest just gets in the way. Although, I've got my eye on one of those really cool tree stands!!!!

  • Whoops, I forgot, a compass is a must.

  • when im gutting a deer i try to do it the neatest as possiable so blood dosent get everywhere and my uncle is always like you cant hurt it put some backbone into it lol...i love to hunt and i love the people who keep the tradition going screw all the tree huggers lol

  • mm that liver looks good

  • LOL POCKET PUSSY

  • "pocket pussy" love it!

  • I never have to tie the rope around the neck... mine is always going around the antlers.

  • Hey, nice video. Only thing I wanted to point out is that it's probably a good idea to keep the jacket on when getting, especially when wearing a brown shirt. The hat helps, but it's better safe than sorry with the all the retards running around with guns these days.

  • Thanks, very informative.

  • I watched my uncle gut a deer just an hour ago, and it was pretty cool....but it was gross in a way because of, if it's a doe, you cut up around teh ass and vag....i was feelin teh pain even tho it wasnt me! XD

  • Thats good eatin!!! LOL Crack me up man. Nice Doe.

  • I love liver, fried with onions. The heart can be roasted, stuffed, or ground up. I like the heart roasted.

  • where at in pa did u get it? i have a camp in ridgeway...elk county

and who shot it bacause it sounds like the person filming shot it and is making the other guy do all the work

  • McKean County, just up the road from you. Great country up there, and the deer are really a challenge compared to suburban deer, which often behave like lawn ornaments.

  • Ya you used a pretty small knife dude lol..but ya nice doe looks like a big doe should get some good meat out of that baby...well good job and nice icicles lol...Good luck hinting in the future!!!!

  • This video should not be flagged. Hunting is a way of life.

  • I would personally start from the breast bone. As to where you do not have to worry about cutting the stomach, but you do it your way. I do it mine. Other then that. Nice video

  • It's always nice to do this in a small creek with a slow water current, flushes blood out fairly decent.

  • it looks gut shot

  • Nope, it wasn't.

  • Hang the deer by the rear tendons, drains easier and is better for skinning. And get a hunting knife, the swiss army knife is a little small.

  • what did that deer dress out to be???!!!!!!!!

  • rather than actually squeezing all the shit ou tand what not, if you satrt by cutting a circle around the asshole, then cutting up the stomach of the deer, when you pull out the guts the asshole and shit will all come out at the same time

  • I might try that this year.

  • I did it differently when i gutted my first deer i cut from the front to the back but this way seems so much easier and better. Good video

  • Hey, I'm getting ready for deer season. Never gutted one before by myself. How far down do you start to cut? You first cut out the stomach out, but it didn't look like you cut into it. I'm assuming if you cut into the stomach, the contents will pour out.

  • No, we don't cut the stomach, but sometimes it does happen if your too deep. Cut down about 1 to 2 mm. Separate the hair, then make a small test incision. You will pass through a really thin layer of skin, then a thicker layer about 1 to 2 mm in thickness. It is very obvious. Once you cut through, insert your knife blade facing out, and just cut from the bottom up to the breast-bone. There is no real need to do anything with the breastbone. Reach in, and just roll everything out.

  • you could also cut a ring a round the anus, cause thats all the realy holds it in, and when you pull the guts out it will make it a little bit easer for you, and the poop doesnt come out.

  • Yea, I gotta try doing that next time.

  • my dad gitted a deer in like 30 seconds

  • Bow huntin opens up tomorrow. and congratulations on the deer. and i'm goin on a draw hunt in a couple of weeks usin my 30-6

  • If I may make a suggestion, instead of cutting into the cavity, place your knife in the cavity and cut outward, this way you don't puncture the stomach or any other organs while you're opening up the deer. Just a suggestion.

  • your jacket makes great camo for hunting in the snow.

  • deer are color blind.

  • Actually, deer see color, specifially Blue/Green and Green-Yellow, and very little if any, red. See below for further explanation......

The orange camo is also explained below.......

  • I like this video. I used this video as my tutorial for my first time gutting, and got it done perfectly.

  • Yep, that's as real as it gets!

  • My dad and I always would split the breast bone to make it easier to air out and to get to the heart lungs and what not.

  • Some people like doing that, to me, its not necessary.

  • that is the most unclean way of field dressing a deer Ive ever seen. The first thing you should have done was cut around the outside of the anus, and then tie it shut with string or rubber band. That would have kept the crap from touching the meat. The whole thing was just sloppy and careless.

  • Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

  • boy never heard it like that, but spoken well. lol.

  • i Hunt with my Dad and have for years... my only reservations i've had is field dressing. Whenever they had to do it i was never there because i was so scared of getting sick lol... But this doesn't look "that" bad....

  • The thing I don't like is the smell. Its a warm musky smell. But you get used to it. The blood doesn't bother me.

  • We do it differently in Montana. Ive never used gloves :/ I also break through the pelvic bone so its easier to get the intestines out but it dullens the knife easier.

Do you guys have pronghorn in your area? Theyre fun to hunt :D

  • No pronghorns here. Wanna swap some whitetail hunting for some pronghorn hunting?

  • excellent job :)

im developping a love for the hunt :) got alot to learn though :/

  • I normally go farther up into the chest cavity cutting a few ribs to get all the way up to the esophagus.

  • you did the shit step wrong, but overall good video.

  • ohh damn like Myserieden was sayin it doesnt look too bad, and thank god all the inerds come out together & piled up, at least i know what to expect this fall and thanks for makin this video, it really does help lol

  • eh doesnt look half as disgusting as i thought it would lol ive never been deer hunting or anything and ive been wanting to go do it but dont know anyone in my area *shrugs*

  • I suggest you join a couple of local sportsmen/shooting clubs, gun ranges, etc. Just go out and target shoot a bit. Eventually, you will hook up with people who are in the same boat as you, make some new hunting friends, and will end up having a great time.

  • sounds pretty good thanks

  • thanks for the tips...it will help me out alot.

  • but i dont use gloves though

  • i remeber i almost puked gutting my first deer...but now im used to it...i can dress a deer in under 3 mintues now

  • may i ask why you didn't cut up further on the deer when you were attempting to remove the lugns...Also did you cut of the anal canal im new and have never done this

  • As much as I hate seeing animals die and things like that, it's part of nature. Food chain is in place. =]

  • so this was a gun kill right? btw, thanks for making this video, never dressed a deer and now I know how.

  • Very proffesional, i thank you.

Deer stalking is not my thing, rabits are more my line! May i ask, did you really manage to carry out a succesful stalk in a bright orange coat? I did wonder whether deer see in monochrome and this therefor works like a tigers stripes.

    thanks

  • BTW, I love rabbit hunting, especially with a good beagle!!!! I see your from the UK. A friend of mine went on a stag hunt a few years ago, mounted! Now that sounds like a blast! Are there still mounted stag hunts in the UK, or did this get outlawed as well?

  • I've never stalked a deer. I walk hunt and still hunt. Walking a few steps in the woods, stand a couple min, on and on. I've shot lots of deer that way. And still hunting is basically finding a good spot and being completely still and ambushing the deer. Again, many deer this way. As for color, deer see color, but not like us. Breaking up solid colors of any kind is best, I like orange camo. Ever have a hunter sneak up on you? You get my point. The orange is so that other hunters can see you.

  • The orange is a point of contention here, but a life-saver in areas close to big cities where you get many people who, in my opinion, shouldn't be hunting. The woods around Pittsburgh can be very crowded with hunters during the opening week of hunting season, and when you have that many people in the woods with guns who aren't that experienced, your asking for trouble. Orange helps.

But I prefer full camo when hunting Turkeys. Those buggers have excellent vision.

  • you can do a good stalk in a bright orange coat because derr see black and white

  • Actually, deer see colors as well, but not as good as us. Deer have less Cones in their eye than we do and the wavelength of color they can receive is different, (Blue/Green and Green-Yellow), so is their perception of color. Insofar as Rods are concerned, they have more than us and subsequently can see better in low light than we can.

  • thats a sharp little knife you have there

  • Outstanding job Ron, very educational and well done. Mad props, but wheres the ATV at? When funds permit after another rifle of course grab one man, there not only fun but useful!

  • We have a couple quads at our disposal. This drag was only about a mile and it was relatively flat and lots of fresh snow for the deer to glide across. When we hunt in the valleys we break out the quads.

  • what's interesting is that if you just killed the deer and look at the gut pile, you can see the digestive system is still working...pretty cool

  • this is EXACLTY what my friendsaid it was like.. he said "yea..me and my dad had some fun....we started atthe TOP orthe intestinse and squeezed towards the butt... it was raining turds and piss and EVERYTHING!"

  • I think you need a better knife but otherwise..good job.

  • Its not the size of the tool, but whether it gets the job done. Every real man knows this. ;-)

  • My dads boss bagged a couple deers & he gave my dad one for free & my didnt know how to field dress a deer like this guy is so

he sent it to this place that does & it cost him $400 bucks just to make a couple stakes & jerky sticks & it looked like it wasnt even the whole deer

  • always wanted to gut a deer myself

  • Of all the videos I've seen of this on Youtube, this is by far the best and most professional. I'll be using this as a reference in the near future.

  • he does show a good example of hoe 2 follow wat he does an ull be fine

  • mc kean? is that western pa? Ive really only hunted bucks county and up the poconoes

  • Hey where did you take this? I am looking for game lands around Allegheny (of course not super close to the city).

  • I shot this in McKean County.

There are good hunting grounds in Allegheny County near Wexford, around Baldwin. Racoon State Park. Near the County Airport.

Google the Allegheny Land Trust. They have lands where you can deer hunt in Allegheny County.

Also, there are hunting grounds in Washington, Beaver, Westmoreland, and Butler that are within an hours drive of Pittsburgh. Just watch out for the "Opening Day" hunters...they are nuts around Pittsburgh.

  • Looks really cool, I've always wanted to hunt my own dinner once.

  • What sorts of food can you make with the carcass? How do you generally eat it? I hear its popular to make jerky.

  • Hamburger, roasts, jerkey, sausage, kolbassi....about anything you can make with a cow. In fact, deer meat is better for heard patients because it's very low in fat and high in protein.

  • I really gotta learn how to cook my meat. lol

  • As a city boy I'm watching this with fascination, didn't have the advantage of learning any of this as a kid.

How do you guys keep from hurling dealing with all that gore? :)

  • Some people faint from the sight of blood. Its called Vasovagal Syncope. Basically, it's a physical response that causes blood pressure to drop. Some say it's hard wired genetically to some people....like a possum playing dead....same analogy. Other people just get squeamish about it. Whatever the case, after you desensitize your self to it, it becomes easy to deal with.

  • Wow, first time I've ever seen something like this. Very interesting. :)

I'm a twenty year old female and I've never shot a gun in my life. I actually want to learn how to skin, gut and prepare the meat of a deer. Or any other animal I may hunt in the future. I'd use every morsel that I could. My best friend is going to show me how to do this. I'm going to start with small wildlife like a rabbit or something like that.

As sick as this sounds, I'm really hungry now. <3

  • start with squirrel, im 14 and they are great to hunt for the first time.

  • i'm 13 and umm ive gutted like 5 deer that i killed and ive always cut across threw the breast plate and its a little hard but i think i might try ur way and see how it works

  • Thats not a knife.........thats a knife!!!

i used to have a swiss army knife when i was a boy too! lol

  • You know you have "knife" envy!

  • Gloves just plain silly. Others have suggested that the gloves will prevent the introduction of disease and parasites into ones body. You don't get infected by disease and parasites through your hands. Most diseases and parasites enter the body through the mouth, nose or eyes. simply keeping hands away from the face will suffice, either gloved or ungloved. Am I correct in assuming that you don't intend to get any portion of this diseased/parasite infested mammal close to your mouth.

  • Actually, if you have a cut or injury on your hands, there is a possibility of contracting a pathogen. From Lyme disease, rabies, nematodes, bacteria, protozoa, worms, and viruses, to insects, mainly ticks, lice, and mange exist to some extent in deer. With the exception of prions, all are rendered harmless after cooking.

  • The chanced of disease entering through the eyes if far greater than entering through the hands. It is more important to wear goggles and face mask. IF you were so concerned about disease you would be taking other precautions.

  • Now, let me ask you a simple question. Which is easier to carry:

    1. a pair of rubber gloves.

    2. a pair of goggles and a face mask

    Why not a space suit?

    Its practicality.

  • gloves keep your hands a little cleaner so you don't have to scrape out your fingernails, etc. when you're washing your hands before eating A DELICIOUS MEAL OF ROAST VENISON!

  • Every time I've seen a deer field dressed the thoracic sack is rolled out after cutting off anus and esophagus. Seems much cleaner that way.

  • I think he did it wrong way why was crap inside the deer? he should have cut around the anus first, also the gutting gloves: the ones i got, go up your whole arm.

  • Excellent video. Perhaps a video on skinning and getting the most out of the available meat?

  • Damn, we just did that......should have taped that.

  • newsflash ppl, every time u have a steak, pork chop, or chicken leg, this kind of thing happens

  • Let me guess.....your a vegan? Let me ask you another question.....why would you watch this in the first place? Your the type of person who would slow down at a bad car wreck and not offer assistance. Grow up.

  • I have alot of respect for hunters. I like the idea of living off the land and utilizing every edible meats off the deer. Im hoping to take my first trip sometime soon. Great video though, learned alot.

  • ppl think the gutting is the worst part but i think its half the fun lol

  • very informal i like the pocket pussy lol

  • I'm hungry.

  • hey man this was great, thanks alot, you definitely know what the heck your talking about.

  • greatly and properly done! lol! i love it im goin hunting in um..... oh yeah sunday! lol woot!

  • nice video.

  • That would be funny if the deer woke up and was like

" WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ! "

hhahaha thats a good vid man...

  • Good video. Very helpful since I've yet to kill and gut a deer. I feel a little more confident now. Thanks. *****

  • Killings easy when you hit the largest part/target. Gutting is pretty easy: just zip them open and empty the stuff out. Dragging that thing back, especially if its far away, is the hard part.

  • Nice video, I gut deer but its still SICK.. and ppl wear gloves so they dont get parasites and diseases. Just saying and i agree the fagg that flagged it needs to go choke on deer balls.

  • Sweet vid, me and my dad have it down to a science, and it usually only takes us 7 minutes to field dress one. Good luck, and keep huntin!

  • thanks i allways wanted to know how to gut something without messing the meat up

  • One thing is sured < She's empty .

  • I like to "fill" the guts too. Moron.

  • This video was great. it tought me alot. this saturday is my second time hunting, and i had no clue how to do this. Thanks

  • i think its funny how pep wear gloves while doing this i like to go bare hands and fill the guts in the cooled it the way to go for me

  • Well done and pretty informitave its as proffesional as you can be while freezing your ass off!

  • LOL, but done in a "real life" way. Frankly I appreciate "professional" videos on this topic, but who really calls an "ass" an "anus" or "guts" "entrails" when at the hunting camp? This is the real deal. :-) Thanks

  • Nice job and thank you for posting. I hear Lots of people ask how to gut a kill, so it very nice to be able to point them to your video.

I can NOT believe some fucking fool flagged this video! Bet the person who "flagged" this eats meat but is to much of a coward to see where it comes from or do the job themselves.

Political correct cowards (the person who flagged this video), they are destroying America.
