started listening to the classic country while serving an eight year sentence for selling pot.merle would sing me back home and i felt the music.great time in music.i was too young to catch it the first time around.enjoying it for the past 9 yrs
i own 2 teles..an older japanese made Fender tele and a newer nashville deluxe tel which is pretty cool. it has a 5 position switch and 3 pick ups like a strat. a lot of sound variations there. Very versatile guitar. i can rock or play country with it. I also own alot of other guitars...leave it there
love hag but there should only be fenders in country music. Les paul's just don't have that twang. any real country pickers lays his hands on a tele. jmo
@ianting1 Each to their own & the tone they prefer. Clint Strong, the guitarist in this vid, is actually more of a jazz player than anything. However, country style guitar has always been very jazz-influenced. I do agree about the tone of Fenders being more twangy though. Especially the Teles. I play a Dean Soltero but I play country & blues on my Strat because I don't own a Tele.
@ianting1 Clint Strong is/was a jazz player. That's why he played a Les Paul. Even 'BROTHER ROY" Nichols started playing a "PAUL" before he retired. But I'm like you.."NOTHING SOUNDS LIKE A FENDER TELE THROUGH A BLACK FACE FENDER AMP"..
This is what I thought I'd do back in the early 80's.and now at 45 I've got nothing to show for it but a violent criminal record and 5 DUI's.I should be the poster boy for legalising suicide.
People can say a lot of fucked up things about me that are true. But nobody, I mean nobody dammit, can knock my taste in music. I know what sounds good. This sounds good. You just can't hardly find anything worth a shit on the radio anymore.
Don't get me wrong. George Strait is still kickin' it, Dwight Yoakam yeah, and there's a few newer ones that are outstanding, like Jamey Johnson, Ryan Bingham, I like to hear Brad Paisley do gospel, most of the rest of it is pure shit. Rascal Farts my ass.
Call it what you want, IT'S JUST GREAT COUNTRY MUSIC! Unfortunately, that isn't what Nashville is producing these days ( and for more than a few days past) . Why do you think the 'Bakersfield' sound came about? ?
@philgiesbrecht Well, I never been to Bakersfield although I would like to go some day and see what what the local music scene is like these days. But I know this about Bakersfield, California. It's a hard place. Life aint easy there. It's full of struggle and strife and failure and hardship and heartbreak. It's fucking real. And these are the things that produce great country music when they are actually incorporated into the music.
In short, why did Merle want to "just stay here and drink"?
@zombiedrummerkissfan Dead to you maybe! but there will never be another Merle,George,Johnny,Waylon,Willie,Hank Sr & Jr,Conway,Marty, and so many more and i'm sure these new up and comers would all agree too that!!!
Does it get any better than this?! No...
