very well done, however, I think the soloist is letting alot of emotive opportunities slip away by rushing through the first part of this movement. That said, still very well played, but a little to studious for my tastes.
this is my favorite second movement of all time. it even beats Mendelssohn's. it's just so POWERFUL. every note tugs at my heart. I cry listening to this even though I've heard it millions of times already.
He's amazing, but I have to say I still prefer Gil Shaham's version. Probably because it was the first rendition of Barber I ever heard.
For all of you that say he isn't full of emotion, are you listening? Or does all adding emotion mean to you is making this gorgeous song a theatrical performance for Mr. Schmidt. Great Song, great playing
I must be living under a rock. I was unfamiliar with Mr. Schmidt. What a wonderful performer, and great job with this incredible piece. Love the Barber. Also check out Anne Akiko Meyers' version (does she have the first movement posted somewhere?). Thanks for this great posting.
Perform it then, I'm interested in seeing you. Get a pianist. Or just find a stage and perform solo or something. See, thing is, you say Giora doesn't play with emotion here. Why do you say that? This is a legitimate question, what makes you think that?
@firestartertwistedfi Ah, dude, you got me. In all honesty, I spend all my free time arguing with myself on YouTube comment boards on separate accounts, with the ultimate goal of fooling thousands of people into thinking I'm two different people.
In all honesty, this is all coincidence. And I'm pretty sure you knew that.
@ItzhakRoxMySox he is a very good player! bu boring to watch! go watch anne akiko myers play this song! she puts sooo much emotion into this piece barber wanted it played wiht emotion. look at the music he writes how you should be playing/feeling this. and this violinist does NOT convey that. hes a good player, but only good. if he put emotion into this hed be amaaazing!
@NYCroxmysocks Yeah, if you can come close to his level, I will give you your respect. And trust me, if you actually show me up, I will admit it. However, fact still is, he's where he is today for a reason, and even if you do prove to me that you can perform this the "right" way, the truth is still what it is.
@NYCroxmysocks Oh, and another thing. You can prove a lot more to me if what you upload is an actual performance in front of an audience, rather than something recorded in seclusion or something.
@ItzhakRoxMySox wellll in june i wont be in hs anymore, and i would have to speak to my professor about doing it, my college doesnt have many violinists. im like one of 5, and theres i think a cello, so i would have to speak to the orchestra that comes to the school to play. best i can in june is home recording. and dont tell me im not a good violnist bro. i got into potsdams crane school of music. one of the oldest and most renowned schools in america.
@NYCroxmysocks You're young, like me! Cool stuff. But for you to claim, at your age and level, that Giora Schmidt plays without emotion is flabbergasting. You must not know anything about him. Look him up. Meanwhile, SUNY is alright, but do not act like you're special because of it. I'm probably, at my low level of playing, more accomplished than you are. And since you said you'd post the right way to do it, you should just learn the thing yourself rather than wait for your professor.
@ItzhakRoxMySox dude, i study with jascha heifetz's cousin, very very well known in russia. dont tell me that your more accomplished than i am, or try to compare yourself with me. and no its not flabbergasting. this is just a boring piece to watch shyt.
@ItzhakRoxMySox ok first off, i never said i was better than him, i just said he doesnt play with emotion in this peice and ive seen better. i already know this piece. ive been playing it for months. its not difficlut. id perform it for u asap but i dont have an orchestra to do it with nor a violin atm. and i doubt youve accomplished more than me in ur "young years" ive played everything form bach to brahms to boridin to mendelhson to paghinini to vivaldi and everything in between (omg i buthere
@ItzhakRoxMySox *butchered those names). i have hundreds of songs in my room that ive played and mastered. and yes the suny system is bleh, but the crane school is amazing. they only allow about 590 students into the crane school. i was in auditions with people from around the country. Imagine, out of 590, how many of those people are violinists. The suny system isnt amazing, but the crane school is. im not going there anyway, im going to private school.
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I love how the oboe intro is mirrored by the violin during the solo and throughout the piece. I don't know how to describe this song other than absolutely remarkable.

The first time I ever heard this, I was in tears before it ended. I've managed to make it all the way through without crying, but it still touches my heart every time.
....A single rowan wounds the horizon, Sends out an oboes sharp - yearn - From amongst violin oaks. Like Barbers famous concerto Echoed in the eye. Samuel Barber, who stubbornly Pedaled beauty even When it crossed the trends And means of his peers, And the horror of the times Which surely didnt escape His eyes and ears...
I hate I only learned the first and thirds movements for my audition, might pick up the second for a recital this summer after I finish with the Stravinsky
i love this movement. One time i read A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burggess and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley while listening to this concerto nonstop. yeah.
Giora played at my school, his mother teaches cello here but can also apparently play piano VERY well and played with him in the concert he gave...absolutely amazing...he's way better then even in this clip here...simply awesome
Barber, Honegger et al. not BIG names but phenomenally great composers all the same. And what a concerto here, soloist, oboist, conductor and orchestra. I cannot forget Mr.Perlman's prfmn. of the Goldmark vln cnt. at the Festival Hall in London! sd goh (malaysia)
Beautiful. This is my favorite movement. And Itzhak, I may note, is aging quite well, hardly at all.= in my opinion.
