So, I notice that your cup is installed between two adjustable counter parts. Did you have tried to cut on a cola or beer aluminium container? I'm sure that you should get great results!
I just bought one, and I can't figure out to stop the needle from skipping. My cup is always slightly wobbly, and the needle tends to jump.
I found that if I really wail into it I can hear myself much more clearly on the playback, but I literally have to scream or opera sing at the top of my lungs -- and it still skips. It skips so much that I can only hear about one second of my voice at a time on playback.
so ur battery just sucked or with a new battery it wouldve sounded fine???

@wusundowma Maybe the conical shape of the cup causes the stylus to move toward the smaller radius? Will a beer can fit on it?
