  • I thought lipo was short for lithium polymer?

  • +thanks to M. Faraday and most of all, the most alien of them all; Nikola Tesla. :)

    Nice video, and fabulous music.

  • THIS IS REALLY GOOD, thank you.

  • Great stuff Mate...

  • that is fantastic. great sound track too

  • nice video

  • commodore 64 :) is dream machine

  • I did something very similar for Cub Scouts in 1969, but that time technology had moved on a pace and we were using thread spindles instead of the old fashoned corks.

  • Holy-Terrorist:>*=* The lithium battery 99.99% and 100% with the super

    nano-technology for fabrication battery

with ion lithium for 100% security *=*

  • I would think that the outrunner came from electric ceiling fans since you mount the shaft and the outrunner is what turns the blades, of course you can correct me if I'm wrong...

  • That cork motor is cool!

  • cool! great video! I am into r/c helis and had no idea that a cd rom had an outrunner in it.

  • lol @ commodore 64 loading win 95: Yuck!

  • this is great! thanks for sharing. The cork motor is special. bet it brings back lotsa memory! 5 stars

  • Thanks for the kind comments. I appreciate it.

  • I have watched this vid before Dave but i just love going through some of your older video's lol,58

  • Haha. Thanks kindly. Your a good man.

  • hey mr. Herbert i got a question i have a tamiya truck and i want to make a worm screw with something to push n pull in other to make a tipper style truck. If i take a regular motor and just plun in the negative n positive into a servo conecter and plug it in my esc would it work? also what kind of motor woud u recommend for that application? I need it to be able to lift like 5 - 10 pounds maybe. thanks :)

  • If you plug the same voltage motor into your +/- of your esc, the motor would work just like a propeller motor. 5-10 lbs is a lot of weight , so you would need good gearing or a bigger motor.

  • oo i c awesome, im gonna give it a shot! haha, all i need it to do is screw on n off using a worm shaft :) and try to add some gearing on the front to make it have more torque it will be fun!

  • @skl1cent Not sure I am reading what you asked right, but you could try a solenoid, they have some serious kick when activated and would surely push a R/C up and over to roll it. Or, if you have nothing fear, use a .22 blank and have a trigger to make it pop. That is how they would get real cars and trucks to tip over in movies, but with a LOT more gun power, lol.

  • nice video

  • Thanks. ;-)

  • I like your videos a lot, but I have to say that you forgot to mention Nikola Tesla when you said thanks :o) I think to remember that remote control with radio frequency was his invention. There is even a model boat or at least a replica that Nikola Tesla made I did see this video on YouTube called

Nikola Tesla - The Forgotten Wizard.

    Grt Rick

  • Yes Tesla and his coil are famous. I did not remember hearing he had anything to do with motors, but he probably did too.

  • Tesla invented the AC motor. Without it we'd have a power substation on every corner to put out low-voltage/high-amperage DC (can't transform DC up to high-voltage/low-amperage), which is what Edison wanted to do.

  • ha we built that in shop class :)

  • Almost 30 years ago, or recently?

  • last year... 2008

  • Great Video! Thanks for sharing. I love the old cork motor. It sounds like an old model-T car lol! I'm glad your wife kept it all these years for you to share here :-)!

  • Thanks kindly. We appreciate your comments.

  • Hell, I can't imagine my life without any of the modern technologies we have today,

    I love experimenting with things,

And it doesn't matter what, I'll play with anything, a recent thing I've toyed with was a motor i got from an old toy of mine.

The funniest thing, it was from one of those toys that shoot those small foam darts that have the hole in the middle, the ones that the cat used to steal and chew on.

Anyways, the plastic piece on the motor can cut through plastic when the motor is on.

  • Wow, that must've been a strong motored toy.

  • yep, it sure was, but it was also a pain in the ass to get it out of the thing.

    XD

  • We even have motors in our cell phones now ;)

I am young, and cannot imagine life without night flying, motors, computers, and internet. I guess thats what 17 means!

    another great vid night flyer!

  • Thanks very much. Good thinking. Cant wait to see what is coming next, ya know.

  • Hopefully micro 3D plane =P

  • commodore had the only true multi tasking processor. if only the government helped them and gave them afinancial push, alot of young 8 bit users really loved the commodore here in UK. but that was along time ago now. not much competition for microsoft nowadays.

  • Not sure what your comment has to do with this video but I had a Vic 20 and a Commodore 64. I liked them both.

  • Oh, and how many motors do you have?

  • Where can you get outrunners for a cheap price?

  • Try hobby-lobby(.)com I have no idea how many motors I have. Lots, but most of them are no good now.

  • wonderful vid..informative, entertaining and interesting.. thank you

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • love ur video and ur colection of motors kool vid!=)

  • Thanks very much.

  • Great Video!

    Ahhh, the C-64...Loading...Yuck! ROFLOL

    Cheers!

  • Thanks kindly... You remember the Commodores, too. LOL.

  • Thanks for the info Mr Herberts

    very good video

  • Thanks for your kind comments.

  • hi mr. herberts! your opening greetings reminds of an old wildlife TV program, wild america i think it's title was, lol

  • Thanks.. Well it IS a wild life sometimes1

  • i wonder what type of el. motor is more efficient.could it be the 'outrunner',because there is less friction and weight at the rotor?

  • I use outrunner motors on my Model airplanes as you may have seen on my Channel, and Believe me the outrunners have way more torque and can really pack the power. It is because the timing is electrically controlled and there are no brushes for friction. They dont use as much power either, and can have a hollow shaft to put a sliding rod in to adjust pitch both ways of a prop.

  • "i wont tell what it sfrom" haha i bet that motor is from a paper shredder since it has a reversing switch, i can also see a worm gear on the shaft.

  • Correct~

  • In the description you say it is a Li-Ion battery but in the video you say it is a Li-Po battery, just figured id bring that up.

  • Lipo and Lithium Ion are considered the same around here.

  • "Adults will appreciate this" i've been model planes for 6 years. im 14 right now

  • Good for you, Ive been in it since 8, and I am 60 now. You got a long way to go,and with a lot better equipment than I learned on.

  • Thanks for your time...

Hi there.. I'm from Venezuela and this class was amanzing.. I enjoy a lot.. Saludos (Greetins I think)

  • i love your demonstration, i can now better understand motor, i always wondered how they work. Great job!

  • Thanks very much.

  • Thanks for the video! I'm a electrical engineer and learned from this video! Cheers...

  • Thanks you.

  • i'm 14 jr old, i'm flying r/c planes for 1,5 jr now, when i came to the club, evryone talked about, microprocessors and brushless engines with lithinum polimer battry's. i grew up with computers, although a like the old stuff, i cant understand how the new works, so it's boring, the old is far more intresting. i built my own steam engine, so your wrong with adults will appreciate it, i think i appreciate it even more!!

  • Thank you. You are an exception to the rule. Many young folks do not appreciate the past and where we came from. You will go far with your positive attitude.

  • Always fun when I come to "Mr. Herbert's class :-) Very cool Dave.

Mr. Herbert, Can the Ground Flower from your other video be bought online?

  • Thanks a lot. I cannot find the ground flower anywhere. Maybe search for toy tops?

  • Thanks Professor Dave! A very educating and fun video. I'd never seen either a cork motor or an out-runner motor before. Keep up the GREAT work sir! 5 stars.

  • Thank you very kindly..

  • that was a nice class :)

  • Thank you kindly.

  • I don't know.

Why do they call the new cars hybrids?

Either way my nitro engine on my helicopter flamed out in flight. I crashed it below my in the weeds on a bank.

I did not find any damage other than maybe a bent shaft!

  • Dave,

A motor and an engine are two different things!

    Otherwise great video!

You sure have enough motors and engines!

  • Thanks. Of course I know the difference, but it is not without controversy. I am wondering why they call it General Motors, then? And what about Motor City? Or how about Model Rocket Motors? And let's not forget Boat motors! LOL.

  • you forgot Tesla in your credits

  • Ha ha. He was definitely and alien! Sorry, I forgot.

  • Thanks for the great history lesson. Your right about cell phones and computers. My 12 year old son thinks we always had them! LOL! This was fun to watch. 5 stars.

  • oh it was just the commodore load screen at the end of the video. i had one, there was a bad bach that came out one christmas about 84 i think , the power supply was bad.
