  • wow, we've come a long long way since the 1970s. this was a very bg socail issue prior to 1980 where abuse was covered up.

now we have Meagan's law, Amber alerts, and everyone ready to crucify anyone who even touches a child.

  • 3:43 to 3:48 Mr Holland: "Come on out. What's the matter Bakster can't you handle it"

3:49 to 3:50 Hulk: "Hoooooold on"

  • @Thetruthhurts761 3:59 Hulk: "Okay, I'm ready now!!!"

  • @Thetruthhurts761 It's Mr. Hollinger and it's Baxter. We need more shoe tears, though.

  • I like the Hulk. Even with all of that strength, will all of that power, he is not a murderer. He puts the abuser in his place without killing him.

  • @enterprise160 I also notices that quallity in The Six Million Dollar Man. Steve Austin did everything he could to avoid killing people.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1

Absolutely! For instance, the only time I saw Steve Austin actually punch someone was when he was fighting another superpowered opponent. He usually threw people or knocked them away. Same with Jaime Sommers.

  • fight scenes were just as stupid than.

  • @darinbar What did you want? This Hulk to go World War Hulk on that hapless guy?

  • @MasterMacLeod

Ah, sympathy for the abuser. Let me guess...you're an MRA? LOL

  • @TheMiddleagedTomboy I don't know where the heck did you get that idea from. I am just telling the other guy that this is NOT a fight scene as it is pretty much pointless for a regular schmuck to try and fight the freaking HULK, don't you agree?

  • Earlier in the episode Banner tells the boys mother that there are laws against child abuse and here he says it's not a crime. Which is it?

  • @incrediblehulkmovies Actually both because 30 years ago I believe domestic violence charges could only be filed if the victim decided to press charges today the law enforcement will automatically step in and arrest the assualter even if the victim doesn't press charges plus the mental factor.Laws against mentally ill were much more relaxed. The dad could easily check himself into a mental hospital without getting arrested because "he was sick and he didn't know what he was doing"

  • @incrediblehulkmovies Child abuse, is a crime.

  • @KISSFANFOREVER1000 I agree, it's just that Banner at one point tells the mother that their are laws against child abuse but then later tell the kid that his father is not a criminal. It just sounded a little hypocritical on Banner's part.

Not to mention I had already gotten out of a very long debate on this subject with a certain other person who disagreed with me on this issue on this post.

  • @incrediblehulkmovies I don't know if I would call Banner a hypocrite on that part. While I agree with you, I think he was just trying to convince the child not to hate his father, because he also needed help. But make no mistake about it, child abuse is a crime.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Again, I agree. 100%

  • Wow great one! Missed that ninety years ago heh!

  • If only this Bruce Banner knew Jiu Jitsu.. lol!

  • This scene brought me to tears. The father confronted his own childhood abuse when he tried to fight the hulk who represented the "monstrous" character associated with his own father who beat him when he was a child. As the saying goes: "It all came out in the wash". Very powerful, well-written, well-scripted and an accurate portrayal by the actors.

  • @PEEPS3325 Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • of course the only way to stop child abuse is to scar the abuser for life.

  • 4:01 OH S**t!!!

  • 6:01.....Tearjerker. :-(

  • The Hulk, gave the father a taste of his own medicine.

  • I loved the show, and it´s great to see that -unlike other shows that you watch and idolize as a kid- this was actually good!!

  • as in many other episodes, banner's transformation into the hulk was very useful. furthermore, the hulk had a habit of carrying out the mission that banner was on, as if banner's mind were still present in the hulk. right before many of the transformations, banner was almost certainly wishing for the transformation so he could accomplish the mission that he was on at the time. thus i don't understand why there are so many scenes where banner is trying to give up his power to become the hulk.

  • @coventrygardens Terrific analysis! :)

  • @snoops71 i imagine tons of people have felt the way i do, though i don't see many people saying it. i watched the series a lot, & i enjoyed it, but i hated parts where banner talked about his wish to stop becoming the hulk. i often wished to say to him, "you dummy. if it weren't for your becoming the hulk, you & some of your friends would have died a long time ago. furthermore, if you stop becoming the hulk, you'll ruin the show, & you'll make me angry, & you wouldn't like me when i'm angry."

  • @coventrygardens To be honest, I thought the same thing. The Hulk was a life saver on more than one occasion. Banner thought the Hulk was dangerous, that he did harm, but he had the same nature he did. Gentle, but destructive :) Did you ever notice David wasn't the best fighter? He lost everytime, til the Hulk showed up!

  • @snoops71 yep, david wasn't the best fighter. he met so many situations where he needed a bit of extra strength, either because of a fight with humans or because of some other predicament. i don't know how he and his friends survived all those years before he developed the ability to become hulk. // ironically, the 1st time he became hulkish, being the hulk was NOT helpful. if hulk had completed banner's mission that time, hulk would have changed the car's tire, instead of smashing the car.

  • @coventrygardens That is so true! :) The Hulk went wild on that car! Now, how was David supposed to get around after that?? You make a terrific point. How did his friends make it all of those years before the Hulk came along?? I'd never thought of that before :)

  • @snoops71 in so many cases, it seems that people didn't need the super-heroes until the super-heroes came into existence. for example, as soon as superman and spider-man and iron man and bat man arrived, a bunch of things happened that required the use of those heroes. in particular, the super-villains arrived right after the super-heroes arrived. the world didn't need the super-heroes before the super-heroes existed./// the original cartoon showed the hulk battling super-villains.

  • @coventrygardens That is a point. In the pilot of The Incredible Hulk, David Banner's life seemed normal. He didn't need the Hulk for anything. Afterwards, he needed him all of the time.

  • @snoops71 yep, before banner got hit by the gamma rays, he didn't encounter scenes where he needed to be hulk in order to survive. on the other hand, if he had become the hulk when his wife was trapped in the car, it sure would have benefited his wife ( and presumably himself as well. )

  • @coventrygardens That's true! The Hulk would have easily turned the car over, and gotten her out. It would have been done in no time! :)

  • @snoops71 recall that banner's wife's death was what inspired banner to look into ways for humans ( including himself ) to tap into their extra strength when they are under presure. banner was upset by the fact that he had not become strong when he was trying to get his wife out of the car. banner kept dwelling on the fact that some other people had become strong when they needed to. eventually he discovered that gamma rays might enhance that extra strength.

  • @coventrygardens I remember that. He was tormented by not having been able to save his wife. I doubt if he would have overdosed had he not been trying to administer the gamma rays by himself.

  • @snoops71 i believe the story said that someone at the lab had changed the settings on the gamma ray machine, and banner didn't know about the change in settings. thus banner wound up using far more gamma radiation than he intended.

  • @coventrygardens I've never heard that story before! I wonder who the culprit was??

  • @snoops71 it was mentioned in the first 1 or 2 episodes, soon after banner's first transformation. i think it was a lab worker who changed the settings. i don't think it was done intentionally as a way to hurt banner. maybe the lab worker forgot to mention that he changed the settings, or maybe banner carelessly didn't check to see whether the settings had been changed.

  • @snoops71 at 9:00 on the video at watch?v=TOndD86QayI&feature=related, you should be able to find the part where elaina tells david that the settings had been changed. this part is soon after david had ceased being the hulk, right after his first transformation.

  • @coventrygardens Ohhh.. I've never even noticed that part before! I wonder how did it happen?

  • @snoops71 at 9:00 on the video at watch?v=TOndD86QayI&feature=related, they give an explanation for how the settings on the gamma ray machine got changed.

  • @coventrygardens Thanks a lot!

  • @snoops71 i'm glad i could help you find the segment. i hope you realize that the bixby/ferrigno version of banner/hulk is very different from the story that was in the original comic books. in 1970s, when i was a young kid, i often watched re-runs of the cartoon tv show ( made in 1966 ) which was heavily based on early editions of the original comic book series. the bixby/ferrigno version was different from the comic/cartoons in ways that went far beyond the fact that it used real actors.

  • @coventrygardens I wasn't aware of that. I bought a comic book of The Hulk, but it was in the early '80s. I haven't seen the cartoon TV show before. What were the things which made the two so different?

  • @snoops71 in the comic/cartoon, banner received gamma rays when he worked at a military base when a gamma bomb went off. banner/hulk continued spending most of the time right by the military base. virtually every episode included: 1. general ross ( who headed the military base, and who was suspicious of banner and hulk, even though he didn't know they were the same entity ), 2. betsy ross ( daughter of general ross, and a romantic interest of banner ); 3. rick jones ( a young friend of banner ).

  • @snoops71 at watch?v=D3fEVgqoaok&feature=channel_video_title, they have the 1st episode of the cartoon series that i watched in 1970s. i still love the theme tune. hulk was able to jump over mountains,& he could practically glide ( fly ) through the air for quite a distance. he was just about as powerful as superman. he often battled against super-villains. the series had a lot of cold war themes, because the human villains lived behind the "steel curtain" and had russian-sounding names.

  • @coventrygardens That is different. Thanks!

  • @snoops71 i like the original version of banner/hulk as well as the bixby/ferrigno version, but it's important to regard them as 2 separate stories.

  • i wish every abuse kid had a friend like that.... great job hulk

  • @mrfeetandcheeks yeah i could of used that growing up :(

  • Wow!
