One of the famous Butoh dancer passed away recently at age 103, and it reminded me of this movie. Actually, Butoh is not as popular in Japan as described in this movie, and I got to know about it for the first time when I rented this movie just a few months ago.
Of course, when non-Japanese movie makers describe Japan, it is more or less prejudiced, and this movie was not exceptional. However, as a Japanese, I still enjoyed to see how Japan was described by German movie makers.
Le plus beau film que j ' ai vu ! Éblouissant ! Le plus beau film sur l ' amour entre un homme et une femme ! Je rêve de voir les cerisiers en fleurs !
The soundtrack is only listed under its german name, which means "Kirschblüten". Amacon sells it. If youcan't tip in the German letter for "ue", the word "Hanami" should also do.
it's one of those films, where at the end, the audience just couldn't move from their seats. incredible... some people finally went out of the cinema and then started crying...
but the movie isn't JUST SAD - it's a whole, whole, whole lot more. and the main emotion doesn't really have to be saddness.
watch this movie - it's not easy to find and to watch, but so incredible...
after some serious searching (coz I wanted to know too) - found out that the song is actually an Okinawan folk song called "Tinsagu No Hana". This one sounds like the piece called "Chinsagu No Hana" from the movie "Japanese Story" - music by Elizabeth Drake. There are youtube posts for both her and Ryuichi Sakamoto's works

Sounds like music from Okinawa. I am not sure exactly what artist it is...

The piece of music starting at 1:15 is from Ryuichi Sakamoto ''Beauty'' (1989), indeed beautiful music for such a beautiful film.

Hei!
I can help.
The soundtrack is only listed under its german name, which means "Kirschblüten". Amacon sells it. If youcan't tip in the German letter for "ue", the word "Hanami" should also do.
