  • How no encounters, just luck of the trials?

  • @TheBlueFalconX Yep, just keep resetting over and over until you get through with no encounters.

  • How to skip FMVs on PS2?!

    o.O

  • I hope I get to see Excalibur, I've not seen it...ever..

  • you said you're playing with a ps2, huh?

very bad, otherwise you could skip the FMVs and gain more seconds ...

but whew - really good job! I'll try it myself to get excalibur II when I got the game the next days :)

  • You can skip FMVs when playing on the PS2, plus you can save even more time by using the PS2's fast disc option (which I did). The reason I didn't skip FMVs was because I submitted this speedrun to Speed Demos Archive, and their rules don't allow any hardware manipulation (which FMV skipping falls under).

  • @EssentiaFour so their rules say you can't skip cutscenes, yet they allow you to reset over and over until you get no random encounters? that to me is not legit at all, speed run should be in one sitting without resetting game, that changes things completely, not legit. Not trying to bash you though. But a REAL speed run would be much harder cause of random encounters constantly hitting your party when trying to flee, that would be way more impressive to see a real legit speed run like that.

  • @Yadam17g There are different kinds of speedruns; what you're describing would be called a "single-segment" speedrun, whereas this run here is a "segmented" speedrun. I actually enjoy doing single-segment (SS) runs much more than segmented runs; I've completed a SS of FF6, and I'm currently working on SS runs for FFX and Chrono Trigger.

  • @EssentiaFour nice, you have good taste in games. so is there a record for a single segment ffix speed run?

  • @Yadam17g Not that I know of. There's a Japanese guy who did a Real Time Attack (RTA) which is a lot like single-segment, except you're allowed to reset if something goes wrong, but that time still counts against you. I think he only reset during the card tournament. Anyway, his final time was 10:29 (real time, not game time, and counts the ending I believe).

  • Man you are fast! im skipping all FMVs but still im only 17 seconds faster than you in the Gunitas basin. Thx for the guide! im just trying to get exalibur 2

  • nice job. might do a speedrun myself

  • vivi runs wierd...

  • Niiiice. I didn't know Blank would appear should Zidane die.

  • well done for no encounters.10/10.
