The 45 baler brings back not too fond memories one of the worst working balers IH ever made we bought a 36 and cut the 45 up for scrap the one in the video works pretty good with the extra knot checking attachment !!
We had a IH 46 back in the 60's and I swear I pulled a million bales outta the back end of that old girl. This was haying the way it was meant to be. The men were men and so were the women, everyone helped make hay. The kids that were too small to help just kept bring'n us the kool aid. Those were some long happy days!
LOL Great video. I used a MF model 3 baler for a few years that had knot checking system exactly like the one you have damn they were good times. Thanks for the video
@Elplacs no the bailer is not in transport position the toung on this bailer dose not swing like most do it is fixed in one position and that is where it stays
Has anyone every stacked the wagon and also tied the knots that got hung up on the billhook at the same time?? I remember doing that quite often as a young man....every couple of bales i had to jump off the wagon and run up and tie them.....all the while the tractor and baler did not stop. (Let me tell you that got pretty old jumping off to tie knots then jumping back on the wagon to stack bales about 50 times on every wagon load).......LOL
@steelhauler18 nothing like that but my grandfather used to drive the tractor towing the baler and wagon when I was stacking. He was pretty much deaf and didn't turn around to see what was going on behind him too often. If the baler stopped tying (usually too much chaff around the knotters) or broke a shear bolt I would have to jump off the wagon and run around to the front of the tractor to get his attention to stop everything so I could fix it and get it going again.
I really enjoyed this video! It's inspiration for me to get my 2 McCormick 55T balers going with my old '55 Farmall 400 gas. I'm looiking forward to this summer and making my own video of the operation.
wow brings back memories. the tractor and the baler. when I was too young to drive I used to sit on the twyn box and tie knots that it missed and it used to miss lots.
When I got up around 12 years old then I used to drive the Farmall. thanks great video
I bailed a lot of hay and straw when I was a young man on the farm, would go around 6 or 8 high depending if it was wet or not. All ways on the reciving end. Good vid. Phil
haha i have a special knot checking system also, my brother runs the tractor and i have to walk behind and watch the knotter. the left knot gets hung up on the "fingers" once in awile. great video

The Farmall appears to have been restored whereas the baler appears to be "as is".
Brings back memories, this video!
My grandfather had a McCormick 55 series baler with an auxilary engine which he pulled behind a McCormick W-4 tractor.

Does your knot checker system require a lot of maintenance? Looks like an analog evaluation and response protocol.
