The Jets switched their Helmets, during the 1994 NFL 75th Anniversary year. They liked the throwback style the old Jets use to wear during the 60's & 70's. The Jets recently wore the NY Titans gear for throwbacks. A lot of NY'ers want this uniform back and I don't blame them. It's a great Kelly green compaired to the winter green scheme they wear now.
Hard to imagine why anybody would support the owners and not the players who take the risks on the field. You say you don't like the money they get paid?....Talk to the owners who don't seem to mind signing the checks. I think most people who do not support the players, then or now, are simple minded and resentful. let the owners screw you if you want.
I remember a comedy sketch with characters portraying Reagan and Gorbachev where Reagan says to Gorbachev, "We can watch the football game, but it's scab football though." And Gorbachev replies, "That's ok, I LOVE scab football!"
Yes, this was September 21, 1987. I couldn't finish watching this game because my little cousin was born in the early hours of the 22nd. The years do fly by fast.
I went to a so-called scab game that year and later a "real" nfl game. The scab game was better: the players played like it meant something. The other game seemed to be going through th emotions.
@edvhou812 Either because the game was out of reach at that point, or it was the fans way of telling the players to go fuck themselves for going on strike
@thndrct218 At least the NFL ended up having the last laugh against the players by bringing in the replacement teams. Say what you will about the quality of play, give me minor league quality over "no game at all" any time. If these idiots go on strike next year, I hope the owners bring in replacements again, or the networks begin showing UFL games.
Isn't the guy who scored the touchdown the same guy who was either married to or the boyfriend of the beauty queen . . . he beat her up, if I remember correctly
These fuckin announcers making fun of the strike players. For one, what the fuck does Al Michaels know. He never put on a jockstrap in his life. Fuck the media! For two, can you blame the strike players? This was their only shot at the NFL. I don't blame them for playing. The spoiled brat real players were cussing them out. For what? These players love football too.
yup. The 2011 season could be wiped out just like the 2004/05 NHL season. And 5 years after that strike/lockout only now is the NHL recovering fully to pre 2004 popularity.
FYI. I never understood why the NFL owners even counted the games with replacement players in '87? Maybe at most '1' game to make a point. And i also never knew why just like after the '82 strike shortned regular season, there was not a 8-team playoff tournment in '87 as well.
Please don't post that Jet/Redskin game. Blew a 10-point lead late. Awful.
And I too agree that the green Jet helmets were cool. I grew up with those helmets- the ones with the white facemasks and outline before they added the black in 1990. Plus they added the green pants in 90 which I'm not really a fan of, unless they went back to green helmets and did a "green out" with the jerseys and pants. More importantly, J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!!
Also, why is Dierdoof taking shots at the Jets? This was a team coming off of back-to-back playoff appearances, including 10-1 in 1986 before the bottom fell out and everyone on defense was injured. They started 2-0 in 87, and lost any momentum that came with that after the strike, including losing 2 of 3 replacement games. Dierdoof is speaking of them like they entered 1987 off of a 4-12 season.
Yeah - I know I'm in the vast minority, but I actually preferred this helmet design and colors to the unis they wear now (and originally). Just dug the kelly green.
@vassosagapo Primarily because the logos used here were starting to look dated by the 1990s and had to be overhauled. Same reasons a lot of teams began changing logo designs by the mid to late 90s. That's the danger of having detailed logos rather than simplistic stuff. (Stuff like the Bengals, the Rams, and the Cowboy logos are simple and timeless.)
both teams NEVER should have switched their uniforms.

Another good game in the long and heated Patriots-Jets rivalry

You mean from the one they had here to their current one, or their former one to the one they had here?
(am I confusing you?)
