@catchersmitt0 Well, there was one video of this same performance with an ad right in the middle of the picture the entire time. That's why I thanked you.
yes it is. But I think this song was recorded in studio with a Telecaster. Page was known to use a Les Paul or his trademark double neck SG in concerts and a Telecaster with a small amp in the studio. He has a huge collection of guitars so I might be wrong about the studio version but yeah he's using a Les Paul here xD
@ckapz5166 yes, a '59 les paul (the holy grail of guitars) Jimmy Page has 2 and they are probably the most recognizable les pauls (if not guitars) in the world if he would sell them they would go for millions.....Page owns the finest examples of 59's in the world (even though they are modded)
Apart from the massive riffs, Page was such a fucking amazing soloist - awesome creativity and originality in this group - though Plant's vocals usually seem a bit tired live compared to his fierce energy in studio. Thxs for this great posting of genius in action!
Led Zeppelin are "far and away" one of the best bands... ever. And live, they are without peer. Jimmy Page is a guitar god and John Bonham has the envy of all other drummers. This is a band that has everything, and it gels into perfection in every track they put to vinyl. I wish I was born 20 years earlier....
I think the charm of live performances is that its just different from the studio versions, besides actually seeing them, you mind as well just listen to the album, if it was exacly the same ofcourse. But it isnt, thats what made live perfomances so great, if you ask me.
well, nobody asked you did they? live is only better it you are at the concert yourself and your just fucked up as shit listening to a great band, but as far as listening like on youtube or a cd studio is much better its cleaner and made to sound as best as possible
Jesus Christ what is wrong with you kind of people? Nobody asked you for your opinion before this conversatation started right? Anyway all i am saying is that i think you talk crap. This conversation ends now.
@dinodynamic74 Dude I'm so there with you. All of my friends love modern rock and what not, and they get the chance to go to those concerts (even though they rarely come to Wisconsin/Minnesota.) But looking back and watching all of these videos of Led Zeppelin from Knebworth to Madison Square Garden, or even to Earl's Court, you just want to go back and feel what it was like to see them live.
@gaarapossessed17 Good music is timeless. It would have been amazing to see them live, but I'm glad that I wasn't born during that time period. The people of the 70s lived the experience and brought zeppelin to life, but our generation will make them legends. It will be remembered as time when mythical creatures played instruments and when gods lent their voices to men.
This song is basically the reason why i got together with my ex. its still my favorite song all time, but it makes me cry! led zeppelin is my only true love! it rocks my heart :D

He got credit in the 1970s, named guitarist of the year by rock mags for most of the decade. It's history now, but you're right, if no Jimmy Page, then no big hair spandex power ballad guitarists of the
80s (Page should've been shot in '77).. MTV killed rock, even the Stones wondered how a video would 'look' rather than how it would 'sound.' I switched to jazz.. Listen to B.B. King's music from the 1950s if you want the source of modern lead guitar riffs. Since then: variations on a theme.
@ledzeppelin2226 then again rollling stone is a bunch of crack pot assholes who never gave zep the credit they deserved even back in the 70s. rolling stone is not gospel truth and is actually far from it.
man you guys give to much shit about how they play when the only thing the people care for is to see how fucked up they can make the guitar sound like aslong as they make a good music and it sounds good thats all that matters not really any sloopy guitarist unless his really slow
Not sloppy. What you are hearing is Jimmy not multitracking like he did in the studio. Recordings sounded great, but live shows his artistic ability as a guitarist in love with his muse.
Jimmy Page isn't known as a terribly technical guitarist....his style just fit the Zeppelin style. He was/is pretty sloppy compared to many guitarists....doesn't make the music less great, just his style..
am i though. if you knew much about led you'd know how fucked up they got on the plan rides between shows. just saying. theres no merit for calling me an idiot.
i don't just mean live. look at one of his most famous solos, the one from heartbreaker, it's so incredibly sloppy, and that's in the studio. that's only an example because it's so glorified, but almost all his solos are pretty sloppy. nothing against him, but i'm sure he played sloppy without being high at some point
True they were sloppy but he made " sloppy" like a trademark, none the less even if it was sloppy it was still amazing how good he was the sloppy solos sound bass sloppy are not he was a wonderfull guitar player he is one of the best none the less he was a guitar mastermind for sure bro he made sloppy his tradmark no doubt
If you listen hard in the heartbreaker solo it only sounds sloppy because he plays every note exact instead of usualy doing alot of slides and pulls offs/hammer ons. And most led zeppelin studios songs jimmy overlapping guitar parts so he can't play them all live, but yes the cocaine probably made him sloppy at times
It's the art of live playing when your high and the subconcious takes over that is the magic this and other music is. He is to me the best guitarist in the world!!
this song is one of the hardest songs ive learned how to play because its all letting go offf the the strings. but it is like my favorite songs of all time
Since I'm tryin' to learn this song, I 've listened to all the live version possible and realize Robert Plant has forgotten the first line to the first verse of this song. From 1973-1979 he left out "Many times I've loved and many times been bitten". Instead he uses the line from the second verse and repeats it again. You would think someone from the band or stage crew would've let him know - probably too much acupulco gold.

im honestly it is really shit it almost sounds like the same shit and its getting to much boring songs like from led zeppelin could you enjoy your whole life but like today you only like it a few years and then you will forget it its true
this are songs forever but this stupid generation is listining to disney stars and stupid it girls hhhahahhaha i just wanna die!! john bonham is waiting
My 18 year old step son is so into Zepp! I hear this and I just smile and think, damn, that is pretty cool, he could be listening to some of the crap that is out there now, dressing Goth (Oh yeah, they still do that) but as long as he is just listening and enjoying the music and not "living the 70's lifestyle" that went along with this, I am ok with it! He is a musician, and listening to the roots of rock will only enhance his knowledge. Keep rocking peeps! God Bless! The 'Nut.
in concert the people with the burning brooms kinda were distracting from the band.............. special unique sound kinda like the doors are so unique
i didnt mean suck as in not very good; what i should have said was said compared to their studio versions of the songs. i dont know how my comment would consider me to be an "arsehole." u have very how standards if you think someone is an asshole by just making an opinonated comment!
for example from the song stairway to heaven it sounds really better live filmed in madison square garden than in the studio version but i think the studio version is really great though
but you are right in some different concerts they dont sound really so good but they are LEGENDS
i dont know i love their studio songs and i think you can agree with me on that right? but when he comes in with the many times i loved, that sounds just awful and nothing like the stuido sound. zeppelin is awesome but rush is better.
u can hold ur own opinion but i still have faith in led zeppelin. They're sophisticated when it comes to style because no 2 songs sound the same at all. They also came out with the first blues rock band to make it in america which means a lot when it comes to music. I get what ur saying but don't agree at all
rush is great (i've seen them live), but in my opinion led zeppelin is the best live band, buy the led zeppelin 2003 DVD, it's amazing, best live performances ever
Hey, hey, what can I say? Jimmy Page is great. He inspired my cousin to pick up the guitar many moons ago. Randy Rhoads was my inspiration for pickin' up the axe. This is one of my fav Zep tunes though. And John "Bonzo" Bonhams thundering drums are AWSUM!!! Bonzo inspired me to play the drums when I was 16, which was also many, many moons ago. Zeppelin rules!!!

God Bless! The 'Nut.

i didnt mean suck as in not very good; what i should have said was said compared to their studio versions of the songs. i dont know how my comment would consider me to be an "arsehole." u have very how standards if you think someone is an asshole by just making an opinonated comment!

OMG no i dont think so
but its of course your opinion
for example from the song stairway to heaven it sounds really better live filmed in madison square garden than in the studio version but i think the studio version is really great though
but you are right in some different concerts they dont sound really so good but they are LEGENDS

i dont know i love their studio songs and i think you can agree with me on that right? but when he comes in with the many times i loved, that sounds just awful and nothing like the stuido sound. zeppelin is awesome but rush is better.
kfreezy23 2 years ago
u can hold ur own opinion but i still have faith in led zeppelin. They're sophisticated when it comes to style because no 2 songs sound the same at all. They also came out with the first blues rock band to make it in america which means a lot when it comes to music. I get what ur saying but don't agree at all

rush is horrible

Hey, hey, what can I say? Jimmy Page is great. He inspired my cousin to pick up the guitar many moons ago. Randy Rhoads was my inspiration for pickin' up the axe. This is one of my fav Zep tunes though. And John "Bonzo" Bonhams thundering drums are AWSUM!!! Bonzo inspired me to play the drums when I was 16, which was also many, many moons ago. Zeppelin rules!!!
