I think the vocalizing takes away from the potential scariness this scene could have had in comparison to the original "Gin Gwai". For me, if I actually spoke out those thoughts like in this scene in real life, it would probably calm me a little or at least distract me from the fright. So, it did that watching this scene. But in the original version, she is mostly holding her breath and having other similar physical reactions, which makes it easier absorb the same emotions...
LOL....for everyone who seeks to compare the remake with the original...the original is Hong Kong/Singapore, not Japanese. But if you want to more generic, the use of "Asian" also works.
Asian versions always better. The old guy in the original is way creepier, and the setting was much better with everything being a lot more dull and gray.
I'm with everyone that said the original is better. This one had no suspense thanks to producers' fears of short attention spans, and Jessica Alba just didn't sell it. I could've done without the "It's not real...it's not real..." babble too -- it's unnecessary and plays down to the audience.
I prefer the color scheme of the original (gin gwai) and overall it's a creepier scene... BUT what i really like about this version is the elevator man himself and that his face looks like it's been blown off by a shotgun.
that is some scary shit right there i watched that film last night on my own ''shudder'' crap scary especialy the old lady in the hospital 0_0 i literaly shat my self FREEZING FREEZING!
@blaalb12 ...correction, The Eye is a Hong Kong/Singapore production, not Japanese. And I concur, much of the original is in the American remake with just a few minor changes for American tastes.
ITS REAL DEAL WITH IT!!!

The original scene here is much scarier. This one completely lacks its suspense and.. I dunno, the 'dark' feeling. this just feels too bright.

shame, the original scene from the japanese version is much better, but at least they havent changed it completely in the remake.
