Alexx did it because it was her job & she pulled through it even though I could tell it really made very sad to have to do it! I remember the episode on NCIS when Ducky had to do the autopsy on Kate Todd, it's never easy!

I have a friend who is an M.E., and she had to do an autopsy on her friend's son. She cried so much before and after, but she just did her job. It's the same way with Alexx. She had a job to do and sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and do it.
