But you should know that from the 11 strings that this instrument has, only the first five/four strings are "like" bass strings. the other half have gauges more "like" guitar strings (for example, usually the last one is 0.008-0.010, try and put that on bass and see what happens). My point is that it is not a bass guitar, the same way that a mandolin is not a guitar or a trumpet is not a saxo. Peace! :)

That Guitar looks based on the 'Chapman Stick.' Check it out. I was at NAMM, standing in front of that guy when this vid was taken. While it is impressive to those not familiar to such styles, much of what is played, sounds like a 'modal' style. Meaning based on a scale not major or minor. He may be great, but what he is playing in this vid, is not that out of reach. A good 'Rock' tapping stylist, with full melodic tonality, is more difficult and interesting than what this guy is playing.

The comments on this instrument are the obvious example of "listening to music with the eyes instead of the ears". Who cares about size? As long as the sound's good I don't care how big it is, even if it's a tree! Good music can come out of anything if people are able to put their soul into it!

Other guys are playing complex counter point full melodic passages. Much harder to do than what this guy is doing.

@rs200000000000 A normal bass has 4 strings, and up to 24 frets. That's 3 and a half octaves, which is a total of 42 individual pitches -- 44 if you bend the highest one.

I won't bother to do the math on this one, but it's something like 3 times the amount -- so roughly 130 possible notes on this bass.

Also, it allows you to finger it in a much more convenient pattern. Staying in the same place and moving strings rather than moving around the neck.
