I have a question about the a/c. In front of the throttles, there is a handle thingy that says "catapult" and it swivels and pulls up. It has the lighting switch on the end. What is the purpose of this?

@CrabSpirits That handle is the catapult grip, or "cat grip" for short. The pilot raises the grip and uses it as a brace to keep the throttles at military power through the force of the cat shot. A microswitch inside also triggers the hydraulic system to stiffen the nose gear strut (known as the "strut lock") to prevent the nose from bouncing during the cat shot. The switch is used to turn on external lighting at night, which is the same signal as a salute to the catapult officer during the day.
