How to you tie a knot on the A, and especially the E string for plain gut. The E strings is very thick? Also I am concerned that the E and A strings will be too thick to be feed through the holes in the tuning machines. Do I need to drill the holes out larger?

@bjhayman The E & A are usually pre-tied and can rest in the key hole as is...no loop required.
