  • <3! Thank you~! HELPED SO MUCH

  • Very helpful! :) I might use this for this t shirt commission I'm working on. x3

ADORABLE AS FUCK MUSIC. x3 <3

  • You don't know how fucking awesome you are :D

  • if i use curve tool will it still work? please answer!!

  • thanks now i could color my lines haha

  • Thank you so much!

  • Nano desu ;U;

  • Aw thanks so much! Do you think you could teach me how to use the line tool? If there is one? I want to make some manga/cartoon cats, and I need straight lines. Only I can't find the line tool! PLEASE HELP!!! D:>

  • @NOMMINGcat (Haha, this is my new account) That's a question that stumped me too for a while; it's actually a separate type of layer, not just a tool; right next to the "new layer" button, there's one with a pen called "new linework layer". I can't really teach how these work in a YouTube comment, unfortunately... and I guess it's not all self explanatory, but fiddle around with it : P

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. :3

  • @FluffyAzureDreams Ah, yes, I just recently figured it out! Thanks though! :D

  • I like method 1 better XD

  • oh my gawsh thanks for the 2nd thing o:

  • Thaaaaaaank yewww sp much!!!!

  • the second method wont work for me D: am i doing something wrong?

  • @TheFansonic That depends on what you're doing o .o What are you doing, maybe I can help. But I will say, this method is actually not the greatest. xD

What I suggest is that you remove any white by going Layer > Luminance to Transparency (this will remove any color), then making a new layer above the lines you want to color and checking the "Clipping Group" option. Then color on that layer and it will apply the color to the layer below :3

  • lol love the song =D , thanks for the tutorial

  • Nvm I got it!

    Thanks for the tutorial :D

  • @xShugoCharax3 ...xD Alright, but there are better ways to do it... I just haven't made a video yet. orz

  • I dont get this

  • music name ?

  • @NaOiMpOrTa It's in the description xD; It's Hanyuu's Character song, Nano Desu.

  • @Hylianpiratesrule ararara i read the description 20 times and didn't see it, clearly a lack of caffeine in my system xP

  • wow xD that's so cool

  • @ShinbitekiKiseki Oh, there's a much easier way to do it. Haha... I'm hoping to post a video about that, because this account has so many "tutorials" on "techniques" that can be done in a much better way.

For example, for this one, you can just take the scan and go to Layer > Luminance to Transparency. That makes all the whites transparent, etc. THEN do Opacity Lock. Another thing you can do is experiment with Clipping Groups; a layer that goes on top of your lines/w-e. You should try it : P

  • you could just use the opacity lock it's a lot simpeler

  • @XxleeniejxX They're the same thing... xD; In my version of SAI it says "Preserve Opacity", did you get a legal version of SAI from the website?

There's lots of ways to do it, I don't even remember what I did in this video but the way I do it now is go to Layer > Luminance to Transparency, then check "Preserve Opacity" or make a layer above it with "Clipping Group" checked. It all just depends.

  • @Hylianpiratesrule I just saw a few layer and was like this could be a lot easier

and I do have a legal version of Paint Tool SAI

  • @XxleeniejxX Yeah, I watched the video again last night and the whole "screen" thing is really stupid. xD I hadn't discovered the "Luminance to Transparency" button yet, It's a MUCH better option. >.>

(Personally though, I still use tons of layers... safety > simplicity, in my opinion : P)

  • @Hylianpiratesrule when you use the opacity lock you can color it back to black whenever you want :P

    it's safe

  • @XxleeniejxX I know, I just meant in general xD

...You should see the comments in my old eye drawing thingy e _ e (I need to make a new one soooo bad)

  • :O ... my name is Kiki too!!! :D

  • If you dont mind my asking, there is no "preserve opacity" button when i do SAI. Instead it has "Opacity Lock" "Layer clip" and "Selection source" Could I still use these to color the lineart? I'm confused. I'm sorry please reply I'm really confused

  • @Peachs1Fan usingmybrothersaccount WELL all you need to do in SAI is to click Opacity Lock to color the lineart

  • @AcesHigh2007 thank you :)

  • @Peachs1Fan Sorry this is a bit late, and Peaches answered the question, but yes. It seems that for many people, the button says "Opacity Lock" instead of "Preserve Opacity". It could be that I'm using a different version of SAI.. I bought mine from the creator's website.

"Layer Clip", or "Clipping Group", is basically coloring the layer or group below it as though "Opacity Lock" were checked. This works for groups and Linework Layers, too, and it can be a group too!

  • @Hylianpiratesrule Finally, "Selection Source" just allows you to use that layer for what you're selecting when you check "Selection Source" on your magic wand tool or fill bucket, without having to go back to the layer itself. Once again, I'm pretty sure this works for groups so if you keep your shadings and base colors separate, this would come in handy!

If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot me an e-mail about it. (fluffyazuredreams@gmail.com) I check my e-mail often. : )

  • you could also use a clipping layer above the lineart :D

  • Oops, Nevermind! Just figured it out.

For anyone else who can't find the Preserve Opacity button:

Click Opacity Lock! It's the same thing, only the name changed O:

  • I also, cannot find the Preserve Opacity button. ):

  • uhm..i cant find that Preserve Opacity -.-

  • @DeiMuffin it may appear as "opacity Lock" also. It does on my SAI

  • thanks!! <3

I had a problem with my dark ugly lines D:

    Great help! :)

  • Also, If you creating a clipping group layer to the lineart one, all you have to do is color over it like you did with preserve opacity.

    Thanks for the tips!

  • Thank you so much this was so helpful do you have any more tutorials for SAI?

  • @AllyKat13 Sorry for the late reply, I don't normally get to YouTube comments xD; I am sort of planning on some, in fact I'm in the process of making a sort of "screen shot" tutorial that I will post on my deviantArt. : P

If you have any questions, you COULD ask me here, but I will reply faster if you ask me through dA, MSN, or E-mail. Thank you : 3

  • ah thank u :D!!!

  • THANK YOU <<333

  • AWESOME THANK U SO MUCH <3

  • Thank you so muuch! :3 Such useful tips! And cute music, LOL |D -huggle-

  • i got the lisence for the EASY paint tool sai...the problem is it doesn't have the advanced art tools...like the pen... :(

  • Easy Paint Tool SAI is the full name of the program.

It's possible you have an older version?

I have version 1.1 and it has all the tools featured in this video, but my layout is a bit different(because I originally had the Japanese version, converted it to English).

  • @CarmineTransfer Ah, I had the Japanese version too! In fact, my tool names are still in Japanese, haha.

I can't remember if it's View or Window, but you can set it so that the layer and/or color panels are on the right side instead of the left. : P

I'm sorry for such a late reply ^^; I don't get on YouTube much.

  • @Soulstealer150 You may or may not already notice this, but it does in fact have a sort of vector-style line art tool. : P It's very tedious, but it does look nice if you do it right.

On the layers panel, right next to the "New Layer" button there is a "New Linework Layer" button. I'm planning on putting a tutorial about the different tools of Linework Layers on my deviantArt, but it's not finished yet, so... : ( I'm sorry.

You can also ask me any questions through dA, E-mail or MSN. :3

  • I got a free version that isn't a trial....o_o

It probably isn't the real one, but whatever.....

  • ohh......

i got the free version and it expired, but you can still use it but just not upload or save picture

  • were did you get it? My trial expired so i cant save my pictures

    Thank you

  • @MewBlueberryfox Sorry for such a late reply.. you may have figured this out by now, but SAI is not a free program. It costs about $60 USD (about ten times less than Photoshop), and while some people choose to download a pirated version, I believe you can't call yourself a serious artist if you steal your tools... it just doesn't feel right. : P That's just my opinion though.

  • Oh nvm.

    its not free.

    hehe.

i learned how to do this on twistedbrush.

    ((:

  • cool, thanks! :)

  • I've never heard of that program.

    is it free?

  • Actually, the trial version is free, and you can still use it after the trial period ends (you can't save your picture, though, so you have to take a screenshot or something). Just Google "Paint Tool SAI" and you'll find it. (:

  • @sweetmoon Ahh, sorry for such a late reply! ^^; You probably already know this, but no, SAI is not a free program... but it is considerably cheaper than Photoshop ($60 vs $699, hahaaaaa) and works beautifully. :3

Even though some of the features are missing, you can usually find an equivalent online... gradient generators, textures, etc. : P

  • Thank you! :3
