@theotherhepcat Yes, obviously I need to search harder. Knopfler's the only one I've ever seen play with his fingers, so that's why my comment said what it did.
That 'Rolls Royce' Guitar Knopfler is playing. It has been my dream guitar for years. Bloody wish I could afford it. (The shit costs $8000. Probably more.)
You Tube has caused me to discover another musical phenomenon. The phenomenon of the female background singer. Obviously, songs like LDS would be impossible to perform-live without them. . . . the phenomenon-part is this -- they ( the background singers) are always arranged thusly : the two are always composed of a major one and a minor one (figuratively)
@yamahonkawazuki I like the ladies and I like their backing singing. I've always admired the lay back guitar solo/work of the studio version. Bought the first 45 when it came out. And I re bought it now after all these years. But the live version with the fantastic Mark Knopfler (Love his guitar style) is fantastic. Back then these were musicians were sonically in tune with music. They did it because they loved music from their souls/yearned to be the best/best. Still greats today.
I saw the 1988 tour when they played Nassau Colisseum in New York. It was AWESOME and this video really captures it. I was in college and didn't know my ass from my elbow back then -- at least I was smart enough to know that I was seeing two music legends. Great video!

I really dont mind cos it reminds me i'm one of the few clever people who appreciates the musical talent of the oldies before music was corrupted by the shit "artists" of today.
@Stratocasterhead51 Why is it that people can't appreciate great music like this without getting all self-righteous and criticizing the music of today? There is good music in every generation. You put it like that, you sound just like the people who said the Beatles were a bunch of no talent shit artists.
@joethebourbonman There are indeed. But most mainstream music is serious ripoff crap... The geniuses are ignored and the people who buy a drumcomputer and a program to edit their voice are put in the spotlights to be pushed out by someone with a bigger ass or bigger boobs.
All we can do is keep searching for good artists :)
@Stratocasterhead51 there has always been bad music and there will always be bad music. It's not like the 2000's came around and everyone just decided to suck. I'm glad that you listen to good, old music, but whether it is old or not makes no difference. There is good music now, there was good music back then, there will be good music in the future. Good music is good music and to hold the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties as times when there was nothing but good music is just wrong.
@TheElMendigo yeah....there is good music now...but not alot of really good talent being put forward by the big record companies...thats what I think is the difference...the record companies still largely control who gets heard on the radio and who doesnt...indie lables on the NET are starting to put a dent into their dominance though...Thank God...
@Stratocasterhead51 hahaha nice one :D I dont think all the artists suck today though.. but yeah mainstream now is totally different.. now its like all computer beats.. :(
@Stratocasterhead51 Rock music is a lot different now but it is not "shit", there are many fantastic new bands, its just a different style of music. You have to learn to enjoy both eras of music.
@116goleafsgo Well, no, one doesn't HAVE TO learn to like today's music, but one should recognize that there are those who DO like it, and respect them for it.
@Stratocasterhead51 what;s important is following your heart young man. You can;t regret following your heart, only not doing so.
But you should also acknowledge that there are good artists nowadays as well. Denying it wouldn't make you smart, but narrow-minded and really stuck to the oldies. :)
@SaeedBaba You're reading too much into it.. it could be his stage monitor went dead, or some other technical problem that he thought had been fixed- one of his curly hairs might have gotten mashed, doesn't have to be upset with Knofler.
love it. fans of supreme laidback country rock - check out Klondike Pete & the Huskies Bubba's Song" and "Winter fun by snakehips" for more amazing laidback brilliance. Great stuff.
I've always loved Mark Knofler's music. He get's the most incredible tones with his no pick style of playing. It's funny though that he looks so bored. Looks like he's balancing his checkbook.
people like them had the most beautiful women in the world. i guess they are far from fags guys. this is the music. rock, & roll :p - blues - jazz. maybe metal too. this is true men's music. full of feeling and history. let them listen to rnb and hip hop. no soul there.
dude, I'm sixteen and I only listen to this kinda music.. all of the guitarists from this period are the best.. Who will follow them up after they die? john mayer..?
god i hope not, johns just not aggressive enough, and his vocals are so-so. i would be pissed of thats all that is left. hell, i would rather try to do as good with the vocals than john.
thers a really good band that tours with dickey betts and the allman bros, THE LUKE MULLHOLAND BAND, theyre really good, and the guitarist is only 19 and he plays like a pro, check him out

people like them had the most beautiful women in the world. i guess they are far from fags guys. this is the music. rock, & roll :p - blues - jazz. maybe metal too. this is true men's music. full of feeling and history. let them listen to rnb and hip hop. no soul there.
