  • Nathan East is such a talented bass player and singer

  • Wow ! This is great ! Thank you !

  • Anyone else notice the similarities between Mark's solo here and his guitar on Freeway Flyer off the Local Hero soundtrack?

  • Silly!

He's in GENEVE (SWITZERLAND) this weekend November 19-20 2011.

    find info on worldradioswitzerland

    HAVE AN ICE DAY!

  • Eric, you are the best !!!!

  • 2.18 the best part of this jam

  • This is a perfect song.

  • Slow Hand is high as a kite on this one!!! LOL

  • My dad used to be in a rock n' roll band named r n' r and so now at the age of 13 my favorite artist are eric clapton, journey, and joan jett. They are my favorite musicians other than my dad.

  • Muito FODA!

  • Awesome to hear these two jamming together.....

  • 5:27

  • hey joethebourbonman ... You keep Lady Jaja and Justin Bieber and I'll keep this. OK with you ?

  • -KING! THX

  • when I was very young, my dad was turning on this song, and we were dancing to it :) this is the song of my early childhood, maybe that's why i'm 16 now and prefer to listen to Eric Clapton, Dire Straits and other good artists, than simple comercial music ;)

  • Os maiores do mundo

  • whoes the chicks

  • Is this footage from "the twelfth night" concert?

  • 9 people have a different taste in music, and I can respect that

  • is that blackie?

  • EC is epic but Marky can outplay him on the guitar anyday

  • WTF????? fucking terrible mistake at 6:28!!

  • Thisin' heers one of my All-Time Favoriiites----always blows me awaaaaay-AND that geetar sole Definaatly leeves it's Mark--(sorry--feeelGood musik like this makes me a lil' krazy {er?}) XD

  • me lika dis won

  • Great music!!!!

  • Now here's two people who know how to leave their ego's at the door. Righteous.

  • @dajesusblues without question. such good dudes. it's so cool to see how much they admire each other's uniquely different guitar styles. badass.

  • Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton... can we expect more? Great music.

  • idk about the two women singing in it. nothing against them but have always heard it without them . seemed a bit loud at times

  • @yamahonkawazuki

Some of the high singing you're hearing is the bass player. Watch closely at the end.

  • @skipdow3 sure enough . just noticed thank you for pointing this out. but what i had been referring to was hte midle/early parts. the 2 women specifically. im used i guess to clapton alone on it

  • Why hasn't Mark Knopfler shown up at any of the Crossroads guitar festivals?

  • @johnrakemusic where are these crossroad festivals??

  • Being highly professional in your profession, whatever you might do ,is really all we need and all what matters.

In Belgium , altough knowing that ,half of them are slaeping or playing macho idiots.

Send them away they cost us MONEY FOR NOTHING.

  • these are real musician! no long hair, no sparkling useless clothes, no silly moves on stage. But pure nice magic music!

  • incredible......everyone should see this.....the best...

  • Ah, Mark Knopfler. One of the rare awesome guitarists that played with his fingers.

  • @1obxeclipsedriver

A rarity??? I suggest you either search harder or expand your musical horizons...

Jeff Beck, Steve Howe, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, Leo Kottke, Andres Segovia (and any other Classical, as well as Flamenco, guitarist wort their salt), Pete Huttlinger, Tommy Jones, Martin Taylor, Guy van Duser, Leo Wijnkamp, Earl Klug, Ry Cooder, Merle Travis, Michael Heges, Adrian Legg, Laurence Juber, Pierre Bensusan, Pat Donohue, Jerry Reed, Muriel Anderson, and I've run out of space

  • @theotherhepcat Yes, obviously I need to search harder. Knopfler's the only one I've ever seen play with his fingers, so that's why my comment said what it did.

  • That 'Rolls Royce' Guitar Knopfler is playing. It has been my dream guitar for years. Bloody wish I could afford it. (The shit costs $8000. Probably more.)

  • @heatovc HOW COULD YOU LIKE 6:27 ???

  • I want to be one of his background singers. :-D

  • Why is everybody wearing a too big suit..? Is this the late 80´s or early 90´s or what..?

  • You Tube has caused me to discover another musical phenomenon. The phenomenon of the female background singer. Obviously, songs like LDS would be impossible to perform-live without them. . . . the phenomenon-part is this -- they ( the background singers) are always arranged thusly : the two are always composed of a major one and a minor one (figuratively)

  • Clapton + Knopfler + Sally = the holy trinity. i am saved.

  • After 30 years of listening to LDS, this is the best version of this song I've heard yet !

  • Did he really pick up some prostitutes to do the back-up vocals? Or did he just ask them to dress up like that?

  • @yamahonkawazuki I like the ladies and I like their backing singing. I've always admired the lay back guitar solo/work of the studio version. Bought the first 45 when it came out. And I re bought it now after all these years. But the live version with the fantastic Mark Knopfler (Love his guitar style) is fantastic. Back then these were musicians were sonically in tune with music. They did it because they loved music from their souls/yearned to be the best/best. Still greats today.

  • die größten!

  • Eric is great. He knew he had history here and turned Mark loose to "take as many verses as you like." Terrific live mix.

  • That's what you call picking ! BRAVO

  • It's so cool to see two guitar legends together.

EC and MK have played so much for each other as lead and rhythm guitars, so we can consider them as guitar duo.

    Greetings from Armenia.

  • This is really cool. version. Very very nice indeed. Two GREATS Even the bass player is COOL.Wayne

  • @Ebonyivorymusic aye. bute the ladies in teh background were overrunning it at times. but i still loved it

  • I love Mark K's "no plectrum" guitar pickin'!

  • @anakin808 i don't know why do you ask me.

  • hello anakin 808, it's on the album time pieces or complete clapton, both are available at amazon. There is also a single on amazon.de , too.

  • hello anakin 808, it's on the album time pieces or complete clapton, both are available at amazon. There is also a single on amazon.de , too.

  • I agree with statocasterhead. Good stuff before the crap we are introduced to today!! No one can match it.

  • então meu... os caras são feras... sabem tudo de Rock... é isso mesmo. !!!

  • BIG RECORD COMPANIES AND MOST BIG COMPANIES EAT SHIT AND DIE POWER TO THE PEOPLE ROCK IS GLORIOUS!!!

  • Lay down Judie! :-)

  • prima!

  • markey mark, you're my hero.

man I should do my hair like those backup singers more often

  • I swear, all I ever hear is "lay down the salad." lol

  • The part I like is 0:00-6:27

  • @heathovc i like that part too. but dont forget the repeat to infinity and beyond ;)

  • Amazing feel - just been turned on to the huskies - if you like this, check 'em out - klondike pete and the huskies - got a bunch of amazing videos

  • Who is playing the drums?

  • I've got to do a harmony for the chorus in my band, and not just going up an octave. Help, anyone?

  • two gentlemen of music :)

  • Mark Knopfler...Legend !

  • 4:13 to 4:20 lool xD

  • Claptonin biisi on jo sinällään mieletön, mutta kyllä Knopflerin kitara tuo tähän uskomattoman lisän.

    Awesome sanois jenkki.

  • I Pick Therefore I Grin :)

  • Jerry Garcia?

  • GOD I JUST LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent solo by mark THE GOD Knopfler

  • Love this song every time I hear it!!!

  • I saw the 1988 tour when they played Nassau Colisseum in New York. It was AWESOME and this video really captures it. I was in college and didn't know my ass from my elbow back then -- at least I was smart enough to know that I was seeing two music legends. Great video!

  • Knopfler s style is so suited to this song!

  • who's the black dude tryin to steal the show?

  • @holmesnmanning

The uhh, black dude is playing bass so he's kinda necessary and does it well. He also sings a mean falsetto which err, contributes to this arrangement.

  • Mark Knopfler is a BAD ASS!

  • Eric's Gottheclapton

  • spitzenklasse

  • my grade 10 music teacher kinda looks like eric clapton. But unlike Eric he can't play the guitar like a god

  • HAPPY MUSIC GRRRRREAT STUFF

  • What concert was this? Is there a dvd available?

  • IMO the 2 best guitarists ever.

  • schicke frisuren die grazien da .. : )

  • judging from the backup singers' hair...prob in the late 80's

    they toured together in '88

  • WOOOWWEE GOOOD MUSIC!! Can`t stop my feet from movin!

  • The background singers are very bad!

  • @socccero I wanted to write the same thing. They ruin the song!

  • Comment removed

  • One of the Great Sultan of Strings (Eric and MarK).

  • i dont care what some billboard magazine list says.

these are 2 of the 3 greatest guitar players ever! (bb king being 3rd and clapton being GOD)

  • I always play this song when i arrive at my school, first thing. People always critisise me: "get out of the seventies you dickhead" for example XD

I really dont mind cos it reminds me i'm one of the few clever people who appreciates the musical talent of the oldies before music was corrupted by the shit "artists" of today.

  • @Stratocasterhead51 Why is it that people can't appreciate great music like this without getting all self-righteous and criticizing the music of today? There is good music in every generation. You put it like that, you sound just like the people who said the Beatles were a bunch of no talent shit artists.

  • @joethebourbonman There are indeed. But most mainstream music is serious ripoff crap... The geniuses are ignored and the people who buy a drumcomputer and a program to edit their voice are put in the spotlights to be pushed out by someone with a bigger ass or bigger boobs.

All we can do is keep searching for good artists :)

  • @joethebourbonman I do agree with you. But that how fight and war starts, on silly bullshit like this.

  • @joethebourbonman yea i gotta agree witih that

  • @Stratocasterhead51 there has always been bad music and there will always be bad music. It's not like the 2000's came around and everyone just decided to suck. I'm glad that you listen to good, old music, but whether it is old or not makes no difference. There is good music now, there was good music back then, there will be good music in the future. Good music is good music and to hold the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties as times when there was nothing but good music is just wrong.

  • @TheElMendigo yeah....there is good music now...but not alot of really good talent being put forward by the big record companies...thats what I think is the difference...the record companies still largely control who gets heard on the radio and who doesnt...indie lables on the NET are starting to put a dent into their dominance though...Thank God...

  • @Stratocasterhead51: Dude, that's one of the funniest comments, yet true statement I've heard in a while!!! Rock on baby!

  • @Stratocasterhead51 hahaha nice one :D I dont think all the artists suck today though.. but yeah mainstream now is totally different.. now its like all computer beats.. :(

  • @Stratocasterhead51 Keep the spirit alive

  • @Stratocasterhead51 Rock music is a lot different now but it is not "shit", there are many fantastic new bands, its just a different style of music. You have to learn to enjoy both eras of music.

  • @116goleafsgo Well, no, one doesn't HAVE TO learn to like today's music, but one should recognize that there are those who DO like it, and respect them for it.

  • @Stratocasterhead51 what;s important is following your heart young man. You should be proud of doing that, despite any criticism for doing something the rest of the world does not dare to do, because it might make them feel "outta it" or anything. You can;t regret following your heart, only not doing so.

But you should also acknowledge that there are good artists nowadays as well. Denying it wouldn't make you smart, but narrow-minded and really stuck to the oldies. :)

    Rock on mate!

  • @Stratocasterhead51 i did too. ( in 95) they said same thing. i asked " why?"

  • @Stratocasterhead51

My son, born in 1990, grew up listenin my music (I'm born in 1960): Clapton, Hendrix, Santana ....

Of course he now listen and make me know also contemporary music, (yes, there's yet good music)

  • @Stratocasterhead51

    You're right.

My son, born in 1990, grew up listening my time music (I'm born in 1960): Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Clapton, Hendrix, Santana ....

He learned what good musis is.

Now he's teaching me there's yet some good music.

  • @Stratocasterhead51 good for you, because if the young folks don't keep it going, it'll be gone way too soon.

  • @Stratocasterhead51 I stand in awe of your grip on reality...this is music, today's stuff is shit.

  • Does anyone know where and when this was performed?

  • im in the mood for some good vibes...

  • where is Albert lee?-for heaven's sake the solo is dire

  • Something is wrong with Eric. Move to 5:11. He is unhappy with MK although he plyed greate IMO.

  • @SaeedBaba You're reading too much into it.. it could be his stage monitor went dead, or some other technical problem that he thought had been fixed- one of his curly hairs might have gotten mashed, doesn't have to be upset with Knofler.

  • @StandardMeasurement

My mistake. Could be something else. Create solo by Mark BTW.

  • @SaeedBaba HAHAAHHA

  • @prettypriscy16 What is funny?

Mark is my favourite musician. Best!

  • Very pleased to hear how well Knopfler goes along with "the older guys"...( the late but forever) Chet Atkins and here with EC.

In E.C.'s recent concert the influence on E.C. was reMARKable...

    Bernard

  • sorry but jerry gercia band did it better at providence in 1991.

  • 1.39 the bass player does a run down and Eric comes back in and see the way he looks at him. So funny.

  • love this song and couldn't ask for better people, but who in the WORLD is singing the chorus in that real high pitched voice?

  • it is probably Nathan East ...

  • its the black guy

  • The bassman

  • I've always loved Mark Knofler's music. He get's the most incredible tones with his no pick style of playing. It's funny though that he looks so bored. Looks like he's balancing his checkbook.

  • @guitargeorge1964 LOL@ balancing the checkbook!!!!!!! Funnier than crap

  • knophler playin a shecter?

  • Pensa Suhr

  • @atp1962 Oh, his body might not show it here, but I'm betting he was stoned!

  • @atp1962 Oh, his body might not show it here, but I'm betting he was stoned! Those eyes - spaced out, man.

  • M K's sound and style (in this piece anyway) really reminds me of Chet Atkins... just sayin'

  • Chet Atkins it is. He was a large influence on Knopfler.

  • Great song and performance. Thanks for posting.

  • was mark on the studio recording?..

  • No, the second guitarist on the original recording was George Terry.

  • people like them had the most beautiful women in the world. i guess they are far from fags guys. this is the music. rock, & roll :p - blues - jazz. maybe metal too. this is true men's music. full of feeling and history. let them listen to rnb and hip hop. no soul there.

  • old time RnB there is like otis redding and bessie smith

  • eric clapton is the best guitarist and songwriter of all time.

  • dude, I'm sixteen and I only listen to this kinda music.. all of the guitarists from this period are the best.. Who will follow them up after they die? john mayer..?

  • god i hope not, johns just not aggressive enough, and his vocals are so-so. i would be pissed of thats all that is left. hell, i would rather try to do as good with the vocals than john.

  • thers a really good band that tours with dickey betts and the allman bros, THE LUKE MULLHOLAND BAND, theyre really good, and the guitarist is only 19 and he plays like a pro, check him out
