  • "And IIIIIIIIIIIIIII...." Ouch. Getting older is a bitch.

  • I find it amazing, that she, while telling a story, sticks with the strict timing at the end. I've seen a lot of people, who changed that to much, and almost talked the end, straight through the music, when the amazing timing, makes it even more dramatic. Beautifully sang also!

  • Dude. This moment. Fuck.

  • because she isn't melodramatic doesn't mean she has no emotion. Humans aren't over the top by nature her subtleties in this scene are brilliant and true to the character. Cathy is trying so hard to hold everything together, her marriage and her emotional state. Her acting is so natural and real, you need to earn your anger and they way she builds the dramatic tension in this song is phenomenal.

  • sherie's so inspirational for me! Her believability is possibly the best i've seen out of any musical theatre!

  • This makes me want to cry. Sherie is amazing.

  • The part where we stands up for herself gives me goosebumps.

  • Anyone who thinks you have to move and gesture to convey emotion is ignorant and naive. Look at Bernadette Peters; she's a subtle, insightful actress who never resorts to over-the-top characterizations. Sherie's performance here is like that: fantastic. Her skill and stillness adds to the frustration, which builds to her pain and anger at the end. It's very, very emotional and stirring, and she performs the number perfectly.

  • I'm crying too, Sherie.

  • she is so amazing!

  • I love you Sherie. <3

  • This is the best part in this musical. So real and powerful.

  • this is the most brilliant and touching song ever.

  • Oh my god. I almost just completely lost it watching this. Sherie, you are fucking brilliant.

  • And for the third and final comment in a row…after reading previous comments I am SHOCKED so many people think she has no emotion. Her performance is so delicate and calculated. Seriously? Were you not paying attention? Just because she doesn't flap her arms in anger, she has no soul?

  • @samiam1432 I agree completely; I think so often people disregard her performance in this as emotionless and they just don't understand the way she's developed the character. She puts so much under this performance and yet keeps it very precise and calm until she cracks. And if people would step back and look at real life, thats how someone like this would act. She's trying to bring reality to the stage, and does so with such amazing subtle intensity. She was perfect for this role.

  • I love her acting, especially when she goes on the rant at the end. You can tell she's angry, but it's with a quiet intensity. Almost patronizing. And then it just builds up. In the wrong hands, this number can easily be way overdone and make Cathy look whiney and she looks like the bad guy.

    Sherie is perfect. UGH. Obsessed!

  • I've seen this done before and I think this is the most subtle and careful version I've seen, it's like she's keeping her game face until she cracks and then boom!!

  • Don't get me wrong I love sherie rene scott, but sometimes I just want to shake her and make her MOVE MORE!! She just stands there and sings. But she's really good with the singing and acting, of course. She just needs more physicality in my opinion.

  • @BuddyTheSuperdog no way! That's what makes her great! She doesn't pander to the typical overacting that a lot of musical theater performers fall into. Her subtlety makes it real. She's really perfected her craft.

  • so spellbinding!

  • i feel so shocked when she hits all the notes as perfectly as she does on the soundtrack. you just dont get that a lot nowadays

  • 5:25 woa, intense

  • her voice is so amazing!

  • A completely irrelevant comment: I think this is the first time I heard the phrase "I'll own....." used for "I'll admit."

  • this is like ... the perfect representation of that moment in a relationship where you KNOW that its just not working .. heartbreaking . jason robert brown and norbert and sherie are all geniuses .

  • okay she is one of my idols, she has an amazing voice, is a great actress, but the size of her mouth annoys me.

    (yeah i should talk :P)

  • She has kind of a big face in general... lol. I like it! Let's you see exactly what she's feeling. ^^

  • Wow. Given the context of the song, and the context of the show, she plays the emotion of this song PERFECTLY.

I find it hard to believe anyone with even a modicum of dramatic knowledge missed the point so completely.

  • This is the first time I am seeing this and I don't think perfectly is the best way to describe what she's doing. I understand her choice, but her arms look like they can't exceed more than 3 inches from her side. There was a vocal build up at the end to get her to the crying bit.. but not a physical one. If she's going to lose her cool by the end, I think it should be a full body loss; it'd be more powerful.

  • You should realize that in context this is right on. Look into the show a little and how the arcs go and it'll make more sense, that she has farther to go and this would totally blow that if it's any more.

  • @NLaneFan I agree. It's still a great performance though... Love this musical

  • are you BLIND!?? there is SO much emotion in this!! she is amazing

  • When I get really upset, I do EXACTLY what she is doing. No emotion? Hardly. Keeping it together is all she has left...

  • For those that think she doesn't show emotion: The point of this song is she's trying to control her emotions in order to save a relationship. It's actually quite impressive to watch her. If you've ever been in a rocky relationship you will be able to identify with her.

  • you can't tell me that she has no emotion at the end she is almost crying! And if you get the feeling like she doesn't have any drive maybe it's because she is emotionally drained from the character jamie, she kind of expects him to ditch her and when she finds out she's almost numb and then she goes crazy!

  • shes amazing. you obviously have no idea what you are talking about, i mean think about. how the hell would you get on broadway if you sucked?

  • its not that shes bad. sherie renne scott is really good. i just dont think she was right for this part. like she sounds AMAZING as amneris in aida

  • Sherie Renee Scott is an AMAZING actress!!! Wow!!!!

  • one of my favorite songs from this show.

  • As much as I love this show (and this song especially), I wish Sherie Rene Scott was more expressive with her body language & act more with her voice. I do love her voice, but at some points I feel like she's just not really feeling the wonderful lyrics and music. For instance, at the end when she sings "you know what makes me crazy?", I don't really feel the frustration or the anger. I just want her to completely go nuts! She seems too in control in a song that's all about breaking down.

  • have you heard/seen Julie Atherton's take on the role of cathy? she's brilliant! she gave a lot of emphasis on the different emotions that the character is having on each and every song.

  • I went to school wth Norb's neice. Haha.

  • SRC is fierce.

  • OMG I LOVE HER

  • Flawless performance

  • heartbreaking

    love this so much

I watch it almost everyday lol

  • God sherie is a powerhouse.

  • I did this song last year for competition and got rated a superior. I wanted to see the original broafway cast but i never got to find a video until now thank you so much for putting this up. I love this musical

  • Thespians? Congrats. :)

  • Yes :) Thank you

  • I'm thinking about using it, but I'm kind of concerned about its level of popularity...... I don't know if that matters as much for musical numbers as monologues....

  • It does. judges can get tired of hearing the same thing over and over but actually this song isnt done as much as "Still Hurting" for example but if you do use it Break A Leg!

  • see the way this works is that she starts at the end of their relationship and he starts at the beginning and the only point they meet and interact is in the next ten minutes so when she finishes with "good bye untill tomorrow" that is after they first met and he signs i could never save you that is the end of teir relationship

  • This is amazing! Thankyou so much :)

Jason Robert Brown is a genius!

    Please bring this to Australia!!!!!

  • oh my goodness! she is incredible! i saw her in the little mermaid for spring break lastr year and she took my breath away! she is one of my role models!

  • oh my god... the look of dissapointment in her face and the sound in her voice is just... my god i would give my right arm to be able to do that.

  • Is this song at the same time of If I didn't believe in you? I've seen the show live. But still wasn't sure.

  • i think so? they're both talking about a party.

  • I've always wondered that. It would make since.

  • That would be a no. First tip off is the set. In this song they are on the pier. In Believe in You they are in their bedroom.

They are discussing two different parties. In Believe in You he is talking about his first ever book party. In this song she is talking about 'another party with the same 20 jerks..." They are two seperate arguments....two of their many...

  • Thank You!

  • isn't this also probably after nobody needs to know? because he says "put on my armor i'm off to ohio" and idk i thought it fit well if he's being an ass here

  • Does anyone know the year this was off-broadway?? I can never remember. lol :-)

  • 2002

  • my favorite song on the album

    brilliant

  • I really really like her.

Many people don't, they think she sounds winey, but I think she's so good! I can't imagine anyone doing this better.

  • Yeah, used to be one of the people who thought she wasnt very good, because, lets be honest, on the soundtrack Norbert Leo Butz leaves her in the dust. But after watching this, seeing her live (and I've watched all of both of their L5Y vids) it gives me a new appreciation for her. She is INCREDIBLE live

  • Wow..I've never heard that before-I have always thought she is brilliant!

I agree that Norbert over-powers her sometimes, but it is very hard to compare people of the different gender, plus it is very different from the other roles she played-this is probably the most sentimental role and in cirtain songs, he voice is not greatly shown off.

But I would check her out in other shows, and she's much better.

  • she's flawless. This is so amazing to actually get to see!!

  • my favorite song
