In the original Japanese version, there is no monologue by Gohan, just the music and his awakening. The dialogue version just feels too empty compared to this one. Also, all the music in this dub version is the original score, and I believe it was only released like this on the boxsets.

Android 16's dead is truly the saddest moment in all of DBZ because unlike everyone else in the series, 16 didn't get to come back to life or even went on to the afterlife. He just stopped existing.
They wished all the victims of Cell back to life Android 17 (For proof look in the Kid Buu saga and Super 17 saga) even came back which means Android 16 did too which is good because he was awesome they just never mentioned him afterwards

LOL i remember when i saw this back in the day, my mom who never liked me to watch DBZ came to my room and sat on my bed with me, i have no idea what she was talking me about, i was just so focused looking at my TV. And then it kinda drawn HER attention, so she started watching it too, after Gohan had turned into SS2 i looked at her, and she WAS CRYING! it was pretty funny considering she never liked me to watch DBZ (because of violence blah, blah.).

I know how you feel about Kai portentially not keeping the music. For some reason, they didn't keep Battle Point Unlimited during Trunks SSJ transformation in front of Frieza, which is one of the most epic things about Trunks. (watch?v=4SCgDJDB7vE)

I hear ya. Usually I think japanese music is better, I would not watch FLCL without The Pillows in it. perhaps it's because I was raised on the Funi dub, and that made me fall in love with DBZ. It just doesn't feel the same without the techno ish music in the background, lol.
Yea man IDK. This is not a terribly emotional moment. People die like flies in DBZ. One Piece has at least 10 moments that are more emotional than this. No doubt this is an EPIC transformation though, and probably the greatest moment DBZ has to offer, minus possibly when vegeta realizes that goku is better than him..

@Harsha018 Funny thing is, this is kinda like Kamina's death. It shows that even though we thought Goku/Kamina was the strongest, it turns out the weaker character, this being Gohan/Simon, is actually the Stronger person. Now, DBZ did this better because we went through a whole season before Gohan even appeared, and then 2.9 sagas (Saiyan Invasion, Freiza, and most of Cell Sagas) before we realized fully what this kid was capable of, while TTGL was just 12 episodes.

I agree with everything that was said in the info section. Although I didn't cry I think DBZ still had better moments than those others. I do prefer Bruce Falconers tracks though. I get goosebumps listening to them at their pinnacle moments. Great quality too.

Sorry, that just ticks me off about the series. It got too long and redundant and everything was watered down.
Now this right here is why I love Gohan. The Cell Games were the best saga, and it was originally going to be the end, with the main hero switching from Goku to Gohan. Does it ever occur to anyone how Gohan is kicking Cells ASS, and Super Saiyan Two --or Ascended Saiyan-- is supposedly the most amazing thing there, and Gohan has this huge hidden power that shows up all over the place, and that's what makes him go Super Saiyan two....but later, Goku and Vegeta go PAST it?
Something that most DBZ fans should know is that Akira (the creator) based the cell saga off of a arc in the original Astro Boy called "the worlds strongest robot", watch it and you'll see the correlation.
No really, everything about After Story was so boring that the fact that she even died was probably the pinnacle of entertainment I got from watching that thing.
But you know, thats probably because I've seen all the Key animes/Visual novels, so pretty much any sort of tragic moment that they try to pull ends up being derivative and laughable.
Might as well tell you I laughed my ass off when that girl from Planetarian and Makato from Kanon dies...

I agree. LOL i remember when i saw this back in the day, my mom who never liked me to watch DBZ came to my room and sat on my bed with me, i have no idea what she was talking me about, i was just so focused looking at my TV. And then it kinda drawn HER attention, so she started watching it too, after Gohan had turned into SS2 i looked at her, and she WAS CRYING! it was pretty funny considering she never liked me to watch DBZ (because of violence blah, blah.).

This scene still makes me cry. It isn't explicitly stated whether or not Android 16 was wished back to life along with the other people killed by Cell, but I hope he was.

the saddest moment in DBZ was the birth of DBGT...Btw gt had a better ending that Z did..thats my opinion I know gt sucked but atleast it didnt have goku flying off with some retard buu incarnation that looked like he belonged at 7-11 (Sorry to all the people that work at 7-11). also for all the people asking where did goku gowith Shenlong/Shenron, my theory is that he became The Eternal Dragon, but no one knows for sure. either that or hes just holding on to them in other world lol.

I know how you feel about Kai portentially not keeping the music. For some reason, they didn't keep Battle Point Unlimited during Trunks SSJ transformation in front of Frieza, which is one of the most epic things about Trunks. (watch?v=4SCgDJDB7vE)

I agree this is an emotional and epic video (watch it a dozen times before favoriting it), but how can you laugh at Nagisa's death? I just introduced the series to my family and I'm sure they will be crying when they get there. They're gonna be mad at me!

I hear ya. Usually I think japanese music is better, I would not watch FLCL without The Pillows in it. perhaps it's because I was raised on the Funi dub, and that made me fall in love with DBZ. It just doesn't feel the same without the techno ish music in the background, lol.

Yea man IDK. This is not a terribly emotional moment. People die like flies in DBZ. One Piece has at least 10 moments that are more emotional than this. No doubt this is an EPIC transformation though, and probably the greatest moment DBZ has to offer, minus possibly when vegeta realizes that goku is better than him..
PS Wolfwood dying was FAR sadder than than this.

So you didn't cry when they burned the going merry in one piece? That was one of the saddest moments in anime for me.
But i agree with you on Bleach, nothing can make you cry in that unless they start another filler :(

I was more pissed off actually because he was the best character in the series.
The fact that he died, and also the fact that we had to sit through Simon's emo phase for the next 4 episodes (next 4 weeks actually, since I watched GL when it was airing in Japan).

@Harsha018 Funny thing is, this is kinda like Kamina's death. It shows that even though we thought Goku/Kamina was the strongest, it turns out the weaker character, this being Gohan/Simon, is actually the Stronger person. Now, DBZ did this better because we went through a whole season before Gohan even appeared, and then 2.9 sagas (Saiyan Invasion, Freiza, and most of Cell Sagas) before we realized fully what this kid was capable of, while TTGL was just 12 episodes.

You must not like many good anime if you don't think this is emotional. the way 16 sacrificed himself for the earth even beign a robot, asking Gohan to protect the Life he loved so much, Gohan Finally accepting that while you may always try to change your enemies to the good sides, there are many who will just don't get it by words, Gohan's tears of anger...Truly epic and emotional

You guys are making an stupid problem for this... OF course it's emotional,.that android was just metal and joints, yet he learn to cherish life and protect it, he tried to save the life he cherished, and lost his life for it, and his final words was "Protect the life I loved"

I agree with everything that was said in the info section. Although I didn't cry I think DBZ still had better moments than those others. I do prefer Bruce Falconers tracks though. I get goosebumps listening to them at their pinnacle moments. Great quality too.

gohan was always the strongest,if chi-chi would let him train with goku when he was a little boy he could be never defeated. look at raditz,freeza & cell (and buu). gohan got weaker because he did not train.I wish they had give him a bigger part at dbgt and where the hell did piccolo went in db

Also, Gohan himself gets his powers 'unleashed' by the Old Kai in the Buu Saga....but wait; where did that power come from? Where was it here, when Gohan 'snapped'?

Now this right here is why I love Gohan. The Cell Games were the best saga, and it was originally going to be the end, with the main hero switching from Goku to Gohan. Does it ever occur to anyone how Gohan is kicking Cells ASS, and Super Saiyan Two --or Ascended Saiyan-- is supposedly the most amazing thing there, and Gohan has this huge hidden power that shows up all over the place, and that's what makes him go Super Saiyan two....but later, Goku and Vegeta go PAST it?

Something that most DBZ fans should know is that Akira (the creator) based the cell saga off of a arc in the original Astro Boy called "the worlds strongest robot", watch it and you'll see the correlation.

No really, everything about After Story was so boring that the fact that she even died was probably the pinnacle of entertainment I got from watching that thing.
But you know, thats probably because I've seen all the Key animes/Visual novels, so pretty much any sort of tragic moment that they try to pull ends up being derivative and laughable.
Might as well tell you I laughed my ass off when that girl from Planetarian and Makato from Kanon dies...
