I just wanted to say that out of all the videos on youtube about autism, this one is one of the best. This is amazing. I am a mother of 4 autistic sons- 3 of them are non-verbal and the diet hasn't worked for us yet. We have cried and begged for a cure. But the truth is, we are blessed with 4 children. This is the video I wish I had the time to make. Thank you so much! Good luck to your family!

Thank you. Connor is 5 now and he's a very different boy than when I first made this. Neither he nor our lives will ever be "typical" but a day doesn't go by that Connor doesn't make us smile.

I am so grateful I got ahold of this - I understand the struggled that autism can bring and I love the choice you have made to celebrate Connor rather than grieve. He truly is an angel and until we make it to the other side, we may not know the reasoning that he has to deal with this in this life. But to acknowledge and help and love him is beautiful! We are lucky enough to have our state schools funded for 'special needs' students, and our private schools get government assistance as well. If Xavier cannot cope with mainstream school, there is a special school in town. We will send him there. that is funded as well. I am feeling so frustrated for you. I wish i could knock on those legislators doors and tell them what other countries provide, and shame them into action. Good luck with your campaign. Keep pushing for better funding.

Please get your state or federal governments to overhaul your health system. A child's 'disability' should not be a financial strain on a family. We have no private health cover, and we are receiving these services, b/c in Australia, we have a well funded government health system. I feel so sorry for you, not having easy access to funded care for your beautiful son. Please, to whom do I write to let them know the travisty of not providing support to families who really require it.

Believe me, we are trying. I have forwarded my videos "Autism Angel" and "World" to state and local representatives and media, several of whom have spent time discussing the autism epidemic with me. Autism Speaks has an arm active in pushing through legislation to provide necessary care for our children. Many states have, in fact, passed laws requiring insurance carriers to cover autistic interventions. Unfortunately, Ohio is not yet one of them.

I think there needs to be an overhaul of the US health system. Federal and state governments need to provide publicly funded hospitals and services. You shouldn't have to rely on your health insurance to cover a 'disability'. Keep up the good work. Keep the pressure on the politicians to provide decent health services for all. You are doing a fantastic job. It's not easy to care for a child with Autism. I know, and our litle Xavier is semi-verbal, but - the echolia!!! Once again, lovely video

We also have our litle man enrolled at the local Catholic school. He begins kindergarten next year. In WA, the primary schools start in kindy. He will have a teachers aid, funded by the Federal Government. His early intervention will be kept up as well.  We are awaiting an offical diagnosis from disability services. We will receive more therapy sessions each week, if diagnosed with Autism, rather than PDD-NOS. Also,we can claim any out-of-pocket medical expenses over $1,500 on our tax return.

Beautiful video. Cannot believe you have to have private therapies. We are lucky enough here to have our speech, OT and pedeatric physio on Medicare. It's all free, Government paid. We started in private speech, while on the waiting list for the Government system. We live in a regional area (400km) from our capital city. The local hospital provides all the early intervention, with fantastic services. Our little 3&1/2 year old son - Xavier - is progressing well.

your son is PRECIOUS.!! Our son is in the process of being diagnosed as well, we go back in june and i am getting a bunch of videos to burn onto a CD...so they can get more than a quick office visit look of who he is!

At the risk of being presumptuous, don't wait to start seeking therapeutic interventions (i.e. speech, etc.) until you receive "the diagnosis."  I wish we would have started earlier, when we first suspected a problem. We started speech last summer, and more intensive therapy last November. And Connor is still essentially nonverbal at 35 months. Get as much help as you can as early as you can.

Thank you so much! Silas has been in early intervention since he was 13 months. He gets OT twice a week and Speech three times a week. and he transitioned to the special education preschool at 3.

Silas would say a word here and there, but around 3 he had a little burst of words..he is putting two words together, but any more than two words and it turns to gibberish and really hard to understand.

we are being tossed back and forth right now between docs. i will write a message :)
