You make the whole process of side bending look easy and your use of the scraper is masterful.
I have been following the Sloan method also, and have everything built except the Boiling Trough....that's next....especially now I see you using one.
Have you ever had problems with the wood splitting at the ends when it dries? Just curious...
That's a little too wet for me. When I bend sides I just spritz with water and use a hot pipe bender I built. 12" of pipe. goodwill waffle iron heating element, dimmer switch, square stock for legs, done. Works great!
How long do you boil it?

Yeah, since when is boiling the wood required? I know people who do it dry, so this seems extreme to me.

You're right
There are many ways to bend woods, this is one very tradicional way.
I learned with my master Irvin Sloane, you can see it in his very famous book, Classical guitar construction.
It is very ease to bend, and I never lost one side.
