  • amazing all i have to say.

  • I've heard 3 versions of this song. The first starts with a riff and, suddenly, turns into a "spacey", atmospheric piece. It ends with "You let the people down". Here, Thom takes this verse and turns it into a chorus - almost as if he didn't like the result of the other version and tried to alter it. It sounds way less agressive. In the studio, they dropped the chorus and the riff, investing in a "cosmic" ambience. In my opinion, it didn't work. They should have stuck with the first attempt.

  • i wish they did the band version of this

  • @MicahBuzan They... have?

  • @iTomAnks yep! look to the right of this video, there is a full band preformance.

  • @MicahBuzan Mmhmm. It's on In Rainbows Disk 2

  • @MicahBuzan yeah but its the old version

wish they'd do the IR version live with the full band

i love this song, i actually love all of disc 2 almost more than disc 1

this is like optimistic's fucked up depressed cousin lol

  • IR is my favorite era of Radiohead. So organic, so brilliant. It takes all they learned from their influences and experiments and combines them with old songs (Nude, Up On The Ladder) with new songs of brilliance (15 Step, which taught me to dance to 5/4 and Weird Fishes and Videotape and Go Slowly and shit there are too many.)

  • @SuperiFox It's only one album back, not an era. Let it breathe

  • @audiotsunite I just meant the stuff that was released around In Rainbow's timeframe. I didn't mean era like a long span of time or anything.

  • This is by far my favourite Radiohead song, and my favourite version of it <3

  • this is from 2003

  • wait. so you managed to upload this on the same day it was recorded?

  • @danielinsporto They broadcasted it live on the net

  • Did they ever play this on the 08 tour or Down Is The New Up? They're (along with Cuttooth and Talk Show Host) are the best B-Sides from any band EVER

  • amazing

  • they lost a lot of power in the song because you couldn't hear the little high notes at the end of the riff.

  • i cant play this

    fo shit

  • it's a shame the recorded version never matched this or the 2002 version. this is easily a very underrated song.

  • god his voice is unbelievable

  • is this song about the moon landings?

  • Stop asking for interpretations. Find out yourself and create your own universe around the song.

  • don't oppress ;)

  • this song better with the "lay your people down"

  • The line sung in this version is "You've let your/the people down". Hopefully that helps make more sense in the context of the song.

The ablum version lrics appears to be "Thom, oh the little ones".

  • Totally agree :)

  • Hahah Thom.. "We'll play some other shit now, cos this is a gig, isn't it now?"

  • "too many good songs, not enough time"

    My sentiments exactly : )

  • AWESOME version

  • Obviously you are very stupid.

  • hubiera estado mejor q la grabaran en acoustico, esta mejor q la otra version

  • It's an old song, but they recorded an alternate version and put it on the complementary disc that came with the In Rainbows package.

  • I really don't know why they don't play it during the 2008 tour. If someone has an explanation.

  • too many good songs, not enough time :)

  • also its an older song, it was recorded in the Kid A/mnesiac period. They never released it then, and played it back in 02 a couple times, other then that they never played it. I think they thought it was a good song now, and it should be released, but they didnt wanna learn it again, this may be the most we'll get.

  • ♡.♡I love accustic version

  • fascinating

  • this is so gangstar. i love how everyone shuts the fuck up when he starts.

  • woo i had no idea this song was so old. On a similar note, i noticed many in rainbow songs in the "meeting people is easy" DVD.

  • How do you mean? There's a very early version of Nude on there - that's it.

  • this song is grate, you people don't know shit

  • i dont think that this is their strongest performance; but they are really good unplugged. check out there there and you, which is just with thom and johnny. really good stuff

  • There There unplugged isn't bad, but isn't great either.

  • For what it's worth: I believe that Thom Yorke said that he creates the songs acoustically and then later converts it into an electric guitar version. So for all Radiohead fans, it's like hearing a "purer version".

  • I've never heard this. It's really fucking great. Did this one not make it on 'In Rainbows'? Anyone?

  • It's on the In Rainbows discbox. I couldn't get it =(

  • Thanks. Unfortunately I did'nt get it either.

  • Haha well fortunately, I got the discbox and it was worth the 80$...Although, I had already download Disc 2 before I got the discbox.

Go to google, type: Radiohead In Rainbows CD2 torrent...that's the way it's done nowadays people, everybody has to adjust.

  • Did you seriously just say Radiohead are top 40? Are you a fucking moron dude? Honestly? Do you have a brain?

  • i'm in love with his voice and this album is soooo fucking great

  • I almost couldnt remember this song.

  • Seriously Radiohead are the most amazing musicians...how they can manipulate their instruments is amazing but this shows how accoplished they are all round. Not the best of performances but still amazing and held me till the last second.

  • Like how he refers to it as "other shit"

    then just mezmerises us all

  • I just love Kid A this album. Isolated and dark, yes, but is this WHAT WE FEEL until now after year 2000! Wars, Economic downturn, genetic science, IT advancement. Don't you feel that all these make our life WORSER BUT NOT BETTER?

I think KID A and AMNESIAC these two albums are so genuine, telling us something in which everyone don't wanna face in these years, and we don't even have the courage to mention it.

  • I quite agree with you. I also feel, that radiohead have mellowed abit with age, but it is still true that they are still writing about this stuff. Don't like the way they consigned the songs which deal with the more difficult subject matter on this last album to the b-side (such as Up on the ladder & 4-minute warning). The tracklisting of the a-side of In Rainbows reeks slightly of commercial compromise, which was a strange move since it wasn't marketed at-all that way , being downloadable.

  • I think that's a bit of a narrow view. I think Bodysnatchers is probably the biggest exclamation point on the record, in clear view at track 2. I think, barring interpretations, that Faust Arp and Nude are 2 pretty good comments on 'difficult subject matter.' The 'B-side', is pretty widely available at this point anyway. The album cut of this is definitely a favorite for me.

  • any1 know tuning & chord shapes?

  • Alright, people tend to overanalyse the music a bit after awhile (myself included). Kid A and Amnesiac were definitely much darker and mysterious then the previous albums, but I don't know if they were like barely remembered dreams (sorry, buddy). I think Hail to the Thief contains a lot of frustration underneath the surface, and In Rainbows is sort of calm and intense at the same time, like in Reckoner.

Let's try not to overanalyse too much, people.

  • What tuning is he in?

  • D/B/D/F#/B/D

  • Solo Dios puede hacer estas cosas...

    Todos los movimientos adecuados

    y en el lugar indicado

    mirame bailar, soy un títere

por poco y puedes ver las cuerdas

  • to everyone below, this song was written during the kid a sessions, according to rolling stone.

Hope that solves the mystery. It really does fit that period, when you consider the album version of it, which is synth heavy, dark, and paranoid, kind of reminds me of the feel of dollars&cents, for instance. But somehow not out of place on ir.

  • ...as for the nursery rhyme comments..just think back to ok comp-no surprises, kid A-KID A,in rainbows-all i need..these all hold nursery rhyme-esque chimes so its not just a one off thing. Radiohead forever!!!!

  • people make me laugh with there labless on radioheads music...there albums are too deep to tag with one name for the feel of it..hail to the thief was like the cabin of sweets in hansal n grettle..all the different flavours and sweet on the surface but inside is a dark creepy old house with mystical powers...

  • Bah i so need the tabs.

  • DMONIKER IS GAY!

  • dave ye bleedin gombeen

  • thats cause it was written during httt. how does it sound like amnesiac? can't really see this fitting with knives out and dollars and cents... it sounds in rainbowsy.

  • u must admit though it does have that old nursery ryhme quality that the songs from HTTT has.....In Rainbows is more...watery....

  • sounds like u are a boob

  • And Kid A has an oakish nuttiness, I suppose?

  • Actually, i know just what dmoniker means. In Rainbows is like rippling pools whereas Amnesiac and co are more like barely remembered dreams. There's a method in the naming madness you know. I love both of those albums by the way.

  • This song is very Hail to the Theif. But the studio version sounds Amnesiac-ish.

  • i have one question

Down is the new up ??

  • this should['ve been included on the album. Maybe right before reckoner

  • we're not worthy, WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!

  • chills

  • i wonder how much you would've had to pay to have been in the crowd during this gig. anyone?

  • It was free entry

  • where is this show?..anyone know?

  • London! The concert was in a club of the east London center.

  • thanks..

  • 93 feet east in Brick Lane. Funny sort of pub-club thing, but they have a lot of really, really awesome, small gigs there.

  • appreciate it..does look like a small gig im in nyc...love rh though..

  • who is this ?

  • RADIOHEAD

  • imagine the fun of catching up with radioheads back catalogue and hearing all that stuff now for the first time.

omg i just remembered the first time i ever heard talk show host. Must be great to be a radiohead virgin. :)

  • I love when Mr. yorke sings link a ghost.

  • like a ghost :) :) :)

he does have a very haunting voice.

    woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!

  • So talented.

  • yeah! You are right!Today He is the most spontaneous talent in the music scene!

  • Probably.

  • Somebody PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tab this out! I really want to learn this song but there are no tabs on the internet.

  • See the comments in the 2nd page, the previous to this one

  • Wtf the "let the ppl down" is just amazing

  • Radiohead you are amazing! You make music as no one does!!

  • i agree with bonovoxmofo. please come to Mexico!!

  • I don't know how but every album release they manage to create fresh sounds with elegant results this time. Keep up the hard work Radiohead boys!

And don't forget to come to Mexico some day!

  • We were all new Radiohead fan's at one point in time :)

  • unbelievable!!!

  • can't get enough

    help!

  • Vivement la tournée en juin !!!!!!!!

  • Naaaaah... increible... de donde crea tanta inspiración?

  • the tuning is (DBDGBD). the 4 chords in the chorus, let the people down is something like, (5x5050) then (7x7670) then (5x5050) then (x05400).

  • he's got the a string tuned up to a B. and it's easy to play. first chord (x05000) then to, (x04000), then up to (x07000) then back to (x0500). repeat. you can figure out the rest.

  • ive never really heard of radiohead - are they a new band - cos this is pretty good

  • unbelievable

  • as long as you think their good i don't care when you've heard of them... they have 7 albums... start listening from their 90s stuff

  • They have been around since 1986, and yes they could be it could be said they are 'pretty good' :)

  • um.yes.they're pretty good. listen. to.them.now.

  • (I feel I should chip in some sanity and acknowledge that you're joking)

  • yes i was - well done mate -

  • are you a spa or what?go on to wikipedia caveman.

  • hope you are really kidding :))))

  • i was kidding you dicks - look how much fuss that one comment made lol - i love radiohead you schleps

  • I've met several people that didn't know who Radiohead was. If all you listen to is top 40 you can go your entire life without knowing there's anything better out there. You're only clever if you convince us that something totally outside the realm of possibility is real.

  • But Radiohead is usually in the top 40 anyway...

  • Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, have mercy and give us those tour dates. Too amazing this is!!!

  • what tuning is that?

  • im pretty sure its drop D on both sides so its DADGBD, i may be completely wrong though

  • Best song of the webcast ?

  • fuckin awesome

  • Great version of the song....and what a great idea from a fuckin awesome band to hold the gig in the first place...they are the best!!!!

  • up on THE ladder

  • It's not... I mean literally! I'm not saying that because I like Radiohead.

  • Don't get me wrong, It's a great performance... But that d-string (dropped e) is flat, and you can notice it in how Thom plays, he kind of tries to avoid hitting it, but it is not possible especially around 3:00 during the interlude.

  • lol lol, thank you for that

  • this is just amazing

  • I was there.. couldnt get in tho :( sat outside drinking larger

  • oh what a bummerrrrr

    i wish i was there!

or in london at all ... :P

  • Aww :(

im glad i live a long way away otherwise i'd have been trying like mad to get in there too.

  • this is brilliant. so that's three versions they've done of this song, the old 2002 version, the "album" one with the beat and the synths, and this one acoustic and raw. and they all work! surely the sign of a great band, to be able to reinvent songs constantly.

  • i dont think you can call this a reworking, its just a solo acoustic version. Most probably how it was written

  • one of the best songs of this night with weird fisches, all i need, jigsay falling into place and the oldies...

  • somebody tab this!!

  • tab ?!?!

    whats a tab ??

  • the "scores" on how to finger-play it on guitar..

  • i hope you're being sarcastic

  • lol

    :)

  • THANK YOU

    my connection broke!

    you're my new favorite person!!!!

  • awesome thanks for uploading it :)

"Up on the ladder you're all the fucking same"

  • thankyew so much for the webcast.

best f***ing band in the world.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you....so great!
