Jobs is right in regards to culture. The problem is that all this means is that if you have nothing original to contribute to culture and want to be a slave to someone else's vision, go with apple. If you want to be responsible for your own vision, go with a PC.
My Mrs has a Windows 7 machine. I've used Mac since the mid-90s along with Windows. Windows doesn't even belong in the same decade as Mac OS X. I don't know why people put up with Windows in 2012. People - tech has moved on.

@Rockyeeful seriously, I have macs and pcs. I use them for my day job every single day. I prefer windows. Macs work with more operating systems out of the box natively without virtualisation. What do you want me to say? I don't care much for hardware costs, or whatever. It's a simple fact most people ignore.

You're right about stealing ideas.. Apple stole the whole idea of a gui... but at the end of the day Apple has come up with a lot of original ideas and great technology over the years.. Microsoft has never had an original idea. Everything they do from Windows, to Active Directory, to Internet Explorer, etc,, was copied from a competitor.

Shut up Jobs you never even helped get the apple business off the ground. Wozniak made the first 2 apple computers and started the company. You just took the role of president while Wozniak was doing all the work. In 1996 apple couldn't make anything they had a high point when they first started making computers, then they didn't get popular again until 2001 when the Ipod came out.
1) Apple was started because of Steve Job's insistence to sell the computer that Wozniak was going to give away as just a circuit design for free. Hobbyists like Woz did so in those times.
So if it werent for Steve, Apple wouldnt have existed in the first place.
2) Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple on May 24, 1985. He returned to Apple in 1996, and finally became interim CEO in 1997.

That may be true, but if I buy a Macbook, or whatever Apple-Product I'd choose to buy, I wouldn't be left much of a choice in the matter of the OS, or setting things up further than predefined.
I wouldn't say that Apple products are bad, but they limit you to certain restrictions, where Microsoft would let you have more freedom.Linux and other OS that go in that direction, seem to win in that category, but sadly they lack compatibility (a thing that is a matter to apple products, too)

Yeah, the thing is, is that Microsoft had worked on the OS for the mac, and instead they made windows, which at that time, was pretty much a clone of the apple OS. Do not take this as a bashing, because I have used MS Windows pretty much the whole of my life.
@henrymgray Microsoft didn't work on the Mac OS. They were developing the first GUI versions of Word and Excel on the Mac. IOW - they were a 3rd party sw developer for Apple.

He's no more greedier than the rest of the people compelled to be in business. At $1/year salary, he was paid a total of $14 as CEO of Apple while making the company worth over 100x its value.

I'm not going to pay $1500 for a Mac book pro when i can get a 10x better Desktop PC by building it from scratch that will probably cost me even less. You can also find a laptop with the same specs as the MBP for much cheaper. Oh and the iPhone, don't tell me that's not overpriced. All the hype for nothing. Android OS is a hundred times better.

Historically, when Apple is doing well, it had produced products that had been quickly adopted in the industry because the ideas (technical, business model, design) these products brought forth were very compelling in the market. This forced paradigm shifts and eliminated old way of doing things in an industry. In contrast, Microsoft has rarely produced products that created the same effects in industries they are in. That's where culture mattered.
@ribaldi Yes but that is because Microsoft pushes software boundaries and rules the technical field while Apple is about the shot attention span of user interfacing. It is easy to resell the same product with interface tweaks vs. Microsoft launching a new update to their software. Apple runs on the stupidity of people thinking the interface makes the product. Guys, i agree that microsoft is better and that, however i was watching a documentary about Steve Jobs, and it showed how Bill Gates used to work at Apple with Jobs and how Bill Gates stole the idea of the computer mouse and released Windows 1 right before the Apple computer with the mouse, and it seems that Bill Gates came up with the idea. And of course Jobs would have been extremely pissed off, which may be the reason why he said what he said in the video.

Can somebody find me a PC equivalent of the MacBook Air? Seems like these companies who buy stock parts and throw PCs together can't do a comparable notebook. I own a MacBook Air and love how well the glass trackpad works with OS X Lion, and the battery life that is optimized by the OS. Zero price premium. This is the Apple advantage.

I call Jobs a hypocrite because he becomes enraged when people copy "his" ideas. At least Mercedes and various other car companies acknowledge that they take ideas from each other and fall back tons common ancestor... Jobs refuses to acknowledge that he takes ideas from others.

You just took the role of president while Wozniak was doing all the work. In 1996 apple couldn't make anything they had a high point when they first started making computers, then they didn't get popular again until 2001 when the Ipod came out.

1) Apple was started because of Steve Job's insistence to sell the computer that Wozniak was going to give away as just a circuit design for free. Hobbyists like Woz did so in those times.
So if it werent for Steve, Apple wouldnt have existed in the first place.
2) Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple on May 24, 1985. He returned to Apple in 1996, and finally became interim CEO in 1997.
So Apple's fate then was not his doing.

1. Can better perform as it is UNIX based system;
2. it listens to me better (if want to quit an app);
3. It doesn't occupy my HD abnormally with unwanted libraries, updates n unwanted rubbish left by quasi-uninstalled apps;
4. language change of the system;
5. 32 bit -- x64 choice with every boot;
6. time sharing (optimisation).

That may be true, but if I buy a Macbook, or whatever Apple-Product I'd choose to buy, I wouldn't be left much of a choice in the matter of the OS, or setting things up further than predefined.
I wouldn't say that Apple products are bad, but they limit you to certain restrictions, where Microsoft would let you have more freedom.Linux and other OS that go in that direction, seem to win in that category, but sadly they lack compatibility (a thing that is a matter to apple products, too)

He's no more greedier than the rest of the people compelled to be in business. At $1/year salary, he was paid a total of $14 as CEO of Apple while making the company worth over 100x its value.

@xath23 thats one thing about steve jobs i adored was his never ending quest for people to learn and benefit there lives from his products. they have great learning stations in all of there stores. there are awesome free apps from the app store that can help younger kids learn through school. and the fact that he donated them just for people to have a device that is good enough to do the task's needed to do, to get the job done. in some ways steve jobs is a god.

I'm not going to pay $1500 for a Mac book pro when i can get a 10x better Desktop PC by building it from scratch that will probably cost me even less. You can also find a laptop with the same specs as the MBP for much cheaper. Oh and the iPhone, don't tell me that's not overpriced. All the hype for nothing. Android OS is a hundred times better.

Historically, when Apple is doing well, it had produced products that had been quickly adopted in the industry because the ideas (technical, business model, design) these products brought forth were very compelling in the market. This forced paradigm shifts and eliminated old way of doing things in an industry. In contrast, Microsoft has rarely produced products that created the same effects in industries they are in. That's where culture mattered.

It is easy to resell the same product with interface tweaks vs. Microsoft launching a new update to their software. Apple runs on the stupidity of people thinking the interface makes the product. They will buy the exact same phone with a couple new interface changes and it is regarded as 'revolutionary'.

And of course Jobs would have been extremely pissed off, which may be the reason why he said what he said in the video.

Original Mac OS was made from scratch based on ideas from 2 demos given at Xerox Parc. OS X was NeXTStep which was based on FreeBSD and Mach Kernel. Java was influenced heavily from Objective-C (NeXTStep).
Windows leverage from the development from the Mac and later collaboration with IBM on O/S 2. NT kernel was based from VMS.
Not many things today are completely original.

Microsoft is still proving an OS for 86% of all personal computers all over the world, continuing to improve their entire software lineup and bringing new innovations to the table while also managing in a few years to become one of the biggest names in console gaming, and providing thousands of jobs for students every year.
Apple makes shiny stuff with touchscreens and their computer division has been cut down to 2 guys in a closet office.
