  • musica para el espiritu...saludos de venezuela

  • @juancarlosvibraphone gracias!

  • God I love this piece and I really enjoy revisiting this video every so often. It's like taking that chocolate break to someone that's on a strict diet!

  • Hey tony, i love your playing. Your videos have inspired me to start writing my own solo arrangements on vibes, but i've reached a brick wall. I was wondering if you could explain to me how to get yourself to the point where you can accompany yourself while you're soloing? That would be great help for me. But like i said, great playing.

  • @wiliscool yo wiliscool. it's pretty hard to sum up in a paragraph. but i think, make sure your lines are together, that is you can solo with no accompaniment. because if you can play the changes in your lines you can not worry so much about the accompaniment and then it gets a lot easier. with a melody, you know most of the time you can leave out the root and the fifth. so work on your rootless voicings. hope that helps a little bit. check out vibesworkshop dot com

  • @jazzvibe Yea, that helps a little bit. Im wondering though, when you're playing this, or in your bluesette and east of the sun video, are you improving your left hand accompaniment while you play the head and solo, or do you prepare the accompaniment ahead of time? Ill be sure to check out your website, seems like a good source for knowledge.

  • @wiliscool it's not really prepared. however i created an etude where i figured it out. but normally, it's not prepared but i have these sort of techniques or whatever you call them. just years of work. you live near philadelphia? come down sometime and we can hang for a bit. but otherwise, clarity is the answer, get clear voicings and clear lines and then you put that together. i know it's vague, but there's not too much more to it. it's the process that takes hours, days and years i think.

  • @wiliscool, i always tell my students 'it doesn't sound like the tune, make it sound like the tune.

  • @jazzvibe I actually live in the cleveland area. Im going to school as an undergrad for music, and starting to look for grad programs. Your school sparked an interest in me. I've been trying to find an e-mail that i can reach you at but i cant seem to find it, so ill just tell you on here, haha. But, yea, im interested in heading down there for a lesson if you're up for it. Could you give me an e-mail i can reach you at? I dont check youtube very often.

  • @wiliscool just sent you email via youtube. let me know if you got it. i'll put my email here also. tony AT tonymiceli DOT COM.

  • Hey Tony, I'm a big fan of all of your videos up here. I am just wondering what model of mallets you are using in this video. Thanks

  • @drumintel yo! i'm using the piper mallets, med soft. however i have my own mallets via mike balter. they're out now! where are you from??

  • @jazzvibe Hey, I'm from Ottawa up in Canada. Been playing Vibes for about 2 years now.

  • @drumintel oh cool, if you get a chance come hang with us at vibesworkshop com. 1500 vibe players there.

  • nice shirt lol, something guaraldi would wear no doubt

  • @eric33190 he gave it to me! ;-)

  • Man, the first time I heard this was around Christmas time of 08, and I subscribed so I could find this to listen to it repeatedly from time to time. It's truly a mood changer, this piece! Jazz I still want to know if you plan to make this and Any of your works a down loadable MP3 anytime soon? I really love this one.

  • Nice neighbors. Don't forget to take them some zucchini bread and a cd. It pays off well to keep the natives happy... Really getting into the Vibes. Been diggin on Hamp all night. Have a great weekend.

  • @NcalBiker do you play?

  • @jazzvibe Only as a hobie any more. Started with the trumpet in '68, and have been toying around with an old Fender bass for the last few years. I have run sound equipment for stage productions, bands and occasionally sit in with the locals. Brewery's were fun. Not so much any more. Just moved half way across the country, and am trying to get settled in. Maybe someday soon. Lots of places to sit in and just jam here in Denver.

  • This is soo cool. Brings back memories of my Dad playing his Vibes and marimba practicing before a gig way back when. Always put me in a happy mood. Some day I am going to give this a try. Thanks for posting. way too cool.

  • @NcalBiker the vibes are cool. i live in philadelphia and my neighbors have always been cool with my practicing!

  • the vibes are one of the most soulful

instruments out there.. it only gives good feelings - just to manufacture one of these

instruments - huge process to tune those bars - awesome dude

  • Dude awesome job...I like the tune did you write it? Very well done...I am a jazz vibraphonist myself, and I see a lot of cats who think they know how to play vibes on Youtube but can barely hold the sticks. It's truly a reward to see someone who has such a command of the instrument. Now for the big question - what is up with that T-Shirt?!

  • Beautiful! :D

  • Fantastic!!

  • This piece is Still Super Fantastic!! I really wish you make an MP3 of this. I love it.

  • i think you teach the freshman improv class at uarts. if this is true, man i cant wait to study with you! i play saxophone, but i cant wait to be surrounded by music. i've done two yers of classical training, but im a jazz player at heart. oh and this video.... nasty man. simply killin' it!

  • yo jazzman, i teach sophomore improv. and some guys study with me as non major lessons. are you in the philly area?? i'm playing with larry mckenna next friday at the art museum, i can get you comps if you want and then we can meet.

  • aw jesus man... im from upstate new york. i wish i could make it but its like a four hour drive. i just cant fricken wait to learn. im soooo excited!

  • ok well i'll see you in the fall.

  • just damn good man really good

  • Excellent playing. But sadly, no one has mentioned anything about his "Don't Mess with Texas" shirt...

  • exactly, i was waiting until someone picked up on that. i think vince guaraldi was in texas at least once!

    :-)

  • @JM2337 it is a very good shirt! Can i assume he is form austin?

  • Amazing. Awesome dynamics with the dampener. No easy task.

  • yeah man dampening is tricky isn't it.

  • Tony, you're my hero. This is so beautiful!

  • thanks fj!

  • A tune dedicated to Vince Guaraldi? Man, you are awesome!

  • yeah i love vince guaraldi!!

  • I'm happy for you :P

  • Luv the shirt man! ;-)

  • I like this

  • Wow, that was so beautiful! What's the name of this piece?! I don't think I've heard it before. It actually made me feel better!

  • it's a tune i wrote. if you google vibesworkshop it will take you to my site and it's up there for subscribers! thanks!

  • excellent!!

  • never knew vibes involved a foot pedal

    learn something new everyday

  • Love guaraldis stuff, this on vibes is excellent. Im a newbie to vibes though, may i ask why you strike the lower set in the middle of the bar and the upper set on the bottom?

  • @draco7694 because i'm lazy! a classical percussionist would try and always hit in the center. the two good spots are a little off center and the edges. but the off center is best. in jazz we (well i) don't worry so much about it.

  • Love it!

  • cause i'm lazy. and for jazz i don't think it matters

  • Very nice Tony,I had never heard of Vince,I've just checked him out on you tube, great piano player, nice arr. on vibes. You play it very sensitive.

    Greetings Johan

  • u cant check out guaraldi on youtube....hes not there
