My only suggestion for anyone else trying this is to use a Hard Shield. The Darksteel Buckler is actually a horrible idea - size 1 shields are the worst at reducing damage, while Size 3's (the ones that PLDs use) are the best.
B4K4Doval, size 1 shields are the best when fighting h2h since h2h has many(weak) attacks, while a size 3 would be good against bigger weapons such as great axe or anything high delay realy. bucklers are great for maat although id prefer a size 2 shield
Not really. Each size reduces damage by a %, not a specific amount. In other words, it's the same principle behind Damage Taken -X% gear - the overall damage you take is going to be reduced by a % regardless of whether the damage is broken up into many small hits, or slower hard hits.
Size 2 have almost the same proc rate as Size 3 but with less damage reduction, so the only reason to ever use one is that you don't have access to Size 3's in the first place.
Red mage's shield skill is too low for a good proc rate anyway, so I wasn't concerned in the slightest about what type of shield to use. An additional 100 damage reduced through the whole fight isn't going to make or break the fight, except by a fluke proc at 100 hp.
lol when that old man gets buffs hes on steroids pretty much i know for a fact watching how good you guys are that im no where close to being that good im never going to beat maat on my first try
what sword r u useing ima lv 70rdm and im 0/5 cuz people tell m e u cant melee him my sword is almost caped i just saw u kick his ass meleeing

The sword is a joyeuse, lower attack than some others but double attacks ~50% of the time. For more info on what gear I used, click the (more info) button beside the added date there beside the vid box
Maat is an end game boss which you have to face if you want to unlock level 75 and before you ask, to get past level 50 you need to unlock what we call limit brakes a.k.a lb and you do them every 5 levels Maat which is the boss in the video is the last lb and you basically fight an rdm version of him which also happens to be the hardest fight lb fight in the game.
does anyone notice how Maat's dancing to the rhythm?
