Um no it's not as bad as you think it is!! I was around to to drive them with the 2.6 & 2.5 & 2.2 carbed even those where gutless. The 2.4L does a respectable job moving right along I own one I know and have every generation around. If you want towing power buy a damn V6 then!!! :)
I think dodge should know better than that put a 4 cylinder in a van Toyota does that with some of there vans and SUVs' its just rediculous to put a four cylinder in a big vehicle with lots of weight it puts to much stress on the motor
I've owned my base caravan since new in 2006 and it is a trooper. The 2.4L engine is an improvement over the 2.5 and 3.0L in performance on the caravan and on tight budget at 150hp (2.4L) on the base end of things. But it's basic transportation and you get what pay for!!! To me this engine sounds like the 2.2 with the smoother performance of the 2.5L but then I'm old enough to the difference and I've had the neon's 2.0 and all the K based products!! :)

I get to drive to south Carolina in a van identical to this Friday. Only difference is it has power windows and locks plus keyless entry, tinted windows, cruise and it's an 2007 Its still a caravan though. Not sure if it has the 4 or 6. All I know is it's slow as hell. Either I'm gonna be stylin in my dads girlfriends minivan lol
I drive one of these for my job, and it has lots of problems, especially for a car that only as 45,000 miles on it... it has a airbag light on, the engine line is periodically on, the suspension is extremely loud, and the power lock switch needs to be replaced on the driver's side door.
this would be a good van for someone wanting to save in Gas but I dont care for a caravan unless it has a V6 under the hood its quieter and sounds better

Really? I never knew that. Sienna is my favourite for minivans. And odyssey has the 6spd auto on high end models costing about the same as a new ml350.
i don't know why but every time i ride in one of these it seems demented. like it's missing something, cannot explain it but there you go. many recalls on these model vans. sienna is my all time fav next is odessy.
I saw the gague cluster and the first thing I said was, "oh god please don't be the 4 banger.." then you went to the engine bay and I said, "yyyyep, it's the 4 banger..." #1 bad thing for short on ramps: 4 cylinder, 4 speed automatic vans.
My mom would rev the nuts off that thing. XD I would too.
btw.... the PT Cruiser GT has 2.4L *TURBO* and it doesn't have so much weight to fight with. i really am concerned with the performance. i recommend the Nissan Quest with the Maxima engine! =D
i hate that van so much, it gets me 0-60 in 30mins. i have about the same mileage as that one and i regret getting the base model caravan, no wonder chrysler went bankrupt. but saabkyle04, u drove it a little bit rough i have to say. u have to let off the gas to let the tranny shift (1st to 2nd: 11mph - 2nd to 3rd: 24mph - 3rd to 4th: 37mph - 4th to Overdrive: 45mph) its sad to say i memorized the shift points for that van :(

@cadga1390 I have a 2003 with the bigger V-6 and it sound nothing like this. You can say that again. This makes me cringe. I am glad I upgraded, because it has 95,000 miles and still going strong.

@Whoatemycheese that is one of the main reason my mom and dad have never bought a mini van. they are pathetic little things on the highway. can't tow anything, not as safe in a collision, and in my experience. not as comfortable. we got a 99 suburban, that is now my. and they recently bought a 2001 Lincoln navigator. 175,000+ miles on the suburban. and still running strong. 144,00+ on the navigator. and its still factory fresh. we never regret buying either one of them. suv's all the way XD
when we went to Palm Springs a few years back we rented a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan with what i believe was the 3.3, and we loved it! it carried 7 of us, each of us had a medium sized luggage + Carry ons, and there was room to spare! it was great!
Sounds a little buzzy when u first accelerate. I read up on the Caravan and its past and the press have especially verbally attacked the 4 cylinder. I think the Caravan should stick to V6s. Like my cousin has a white 2007 Grand Caravan with a 3.8L V6 that runs really well.
Thanks for posting, living in Canada our Caravans don't have the 2.4L 4cyl, and I've always wondered what it sounds like and how it performs! It seems very overwhelmed, especially around the 5:28 mark where it struggles to reach 40mph. I can't imagine what it's like to drive around with 7 passengers in it!
In Canada we don't get the 4 banger. Its either the 3.3, 3.8 or now the 4.0. I bet fuel economy sucks in this van since the engine has to work so hard. Wonder how it performs when loaded up with 7 people?

Doesn't have anything, you really get stiffed. I was in a 2006 Kia Sedona LX that was MUCH better equipped, and had a super smooth V6. This van sounds gutless and bad as well. I have nothing against you, Kyle, I think your videos are phenomenal, I just think this is a hateful van.
I like that van. I like that it is simple and not very many electrical things to mess with. The engine on it was kind of annoying though. The whine from it sounded annoying.
bet it was a shuttle at a Chrysler dealership. I rode in a few but they were both V6's fairly nice vehicles that 2.4 must be pretty gutless with a load passengers though. might be hard to sell it.
After watching this I'm glad we Canadians have had the 3.3L V6 as the base engine for a long time now lol. They actually still make this base vans with manual everything for Candians last I heard as part of the "Canada Value Package" only now in Grand Caravan form and, of course, with the 3.3L V6.
I didn't know that they had a 4 cyl engine for the Dodge Caravan, i thought the basic model came with the 3.3L V6. Looks like you are going to new tires for the van.
I don't like the Caravan, it's too short, plain, and slow. My favorite Chrysler van is the Town & Country eL. My all-time favorite van is, you guessed it, the newer Honda Odysseys.
the School I went to has a 2006 Grand Caravan, its Gold, has the 3.3, and has Power Windows and Locks. I actually rode and DROVE this van, because I was in the Automotive technology Class and we were in charge of maintaining the School Vehicles.
this was prob the worst van for chrylyer, the SE base lol, yes but the ptcruiser is alot smaller, and 2.4 in acar is fine not a big old van lol, i think i know why they don;t put a tac :P, since U prob red line most of the time lol
I've seen and rode in many V6 (mostly 3.3 and 3.8) Chrysler minivans, but never seen, heard, or ridden in a 2.4L 4-cylinder Chrysler minivan, so thanks Kyle for this tour and test drive!
that engine is so small for a minivan and driks gasoline like crazy. i know this because i used to have one! is better to get the 3.3l v6 and u will be getting around 17 to 23 mpg.

Sounds a little buzzy when u first accelerate. I read up on the Caravan and its past and the press have especially verbally attacked the 4 cylinder. I think the Caravan should stick to V6s. Like my cousin has a white 2007 Grand Caravan with a 3.8L V6 that runs really well.

Thanks for posting, living in Canada our Caravans don't have the 2.4L 4cyl, and I've always wondered what it sounds like and how it performs! It seems very overwhelmed, especially around the 5:28 mark where it struggles to reach 40mph. I can't imagine what it's like to drive around with 7 passengers in it!

In Canada we don't get the 4 banger. Its either the 3.3, 3.8 or now the 4.0. I bet fuel economy sucks in this van since the engine has to work so hard. Wonder how it performs when loaded up with 7 people?

i hd a basic caravan just like that but it was a 99 witj the 4 cvlinder motor and loved the van but i wish i had the 3.8l engine. still dont know why they still have the 2.4 in the first place. by the way good vid man

Doesn't have anything, you really get stiffed. I was in a 2006 Kia Sedona LX that was MUCH better equipped, and had a super smooth V6. This van sounds gutless and bad as well. I have nothing against you, Kyle, I think your videos are phenomenal, I just think this is a hateful van.

I like that van. I like that it is simple and not very many electrical things to mess with. The engine on it was kind of annoying though. The whine from it sounded annoying.

Oh man 3.8 is the way to go with these vans. I think even the short wheelbase 3.3 feels sluggish so I can't even imagine what the 2.4 is like!

bet it was a shuttle at a Chrysler dealership. I rode in a few but they were both V6's fairly nice vehicles that 2.4 must be pretty gutless with a load passengers though. might be hard to sell it.

After watching this I'm glad we Canadians have had the 3.3L V6 as the base engine for a long time now lol. They actually still make this base vans with manual everything for Candians last I heard as part of the "Canada Value Package" only now in Grand Caravan form and, of course, with the 3.3L V6.

I didn't know that they had a 4 cyl engine for the Dodge Caravan, i thought the basic model came with the 3.3L V6. Looks like you are going to new tires for the van.

I don't like the Caravan, it's too short, plain, and slow. My favorite Chrysler van is the Town & Country eL. My all-time favorite van is, you guessed it, the newer Honda Odysseys.

the School I went to has a 2006 Grand Caravan, its Gold, has the 3.3, and has Power Windows and Locks. I actually rode and DROVE this van, because I was in the Automotive technology Class and we were in charge of maintaining the School Vehicles.

I've seen and rode in many V6 (mostly 3.3 and 3.8) Chrysler minivans, but never seen, heard, or ridden in a 2.4L 4-cylinder Chrysler minivan, so thanks Kyle for this tour and test drive!

that engine is so small for a minivan and driks gasoline like crazy. i know this because i used to have one! is better to get the 3.3l v6 and u will be getting around 17 to 23 mpg.
