when i put mine underwater it says it has low battery. i am not sure if it is actually low, or it is just a side effect of being in the water.

Bought the 850 Sw in june . Took it to Hawaii and loved it, dropped it, swam with it for long periods of time in the ocean as well as pool.

Jumped with it while filming and never let us down. Took over a thousand pics with it. My only complaint is wish it had a strap that would hold it tight to my wrist. It stayed in an open loop which I didnt like. thats about it. I ll send pics if you want

got a 790 for christmas.. and have used it once in the sea. However i seem to have a problem either with the charger or the battery as it doesn't seem to charge anymore!! the red light on the charger keeps flashing???? any help??

I'd only go for it if you need underwater or shockproof capabilities, and even then you may prefer the newer 1030 model. If you don't need underwater capabilities, there's better choices - see the best buys section at cameralabs . com!

The closest focusing distance is a modest 7cm in Super Macro mode with the lens zoomed all the way out. There's full details in our review at Cameralabs.

Sounds like the switch which detects when the door is closed is not working - I'd return it to the shop.

is it ok to bring it down to 10meters? when the manual sas 3?

If the manual says 3, then I'd stick to it. If you take it deeper, then you'll be going beyond the manufacturer's recommended specification and at your own risk. They do a new model which can go deeper though - check out the new 1030 SW, good to 10m depth and with a 28mm wide angle lens.

Are you sure? My manual for the 790SW said 3m. And the Olympus website also says 3m. The 770SW model is good for 10m though.

I own a 790 sw and I found trying to film my Mtb ride that only film 10 sec in SHQ! Is a really short film time. And if you put it in HQ films up to 30 min but only 15 frames per second. Video mode is the only weak point of this camera

hmm, I'm still not sure if this is the one I need to buy. I will be using it mostly for capturing live concerts, and will really need the stabilization and zoom, but am not sure what is the best one to buy specifically for that. I liked this one because if I either drop it, or water is thrown on it, its going to be ok.

Well this camera has no stabilisation and also has a basic 3x zoom, so it depends if you need stabilisation and a big zoom more or less than the toughness and waterproof nature...

If you're taking pictures while you shake it and the photos are ok, then there's clearly enough light for the camera to select a quick shutter - or the camera's increased the sensitivity. But be in no doubt, the 790 SW does not have sensor-shift or optical image stabilisation.

it has a setting on the control wheel with a picture of a shakey hand, it definitely has image stabilizer

No, that setting just increases the ISO sensitivity to allow faster shutter speeds. But doing so reduces the quality. It's not the same as sensor-shift or optical image stabilisation which can reduce shake without increasing the ISO.

Hi, i was just was just wandering(as i have ordered on of these cameras) at what point dose the camera become flooder with water. also what hight would breake the camera. if you could look into these i would be graitful.

Well Olympus say it's only shockproof to 1m and advise not keeping it submerged for long periods. Go beyond these at your own risk. I dropped it from about 1.5m and had it underwater for 1hr without any problems.

appearance and/or deteriorate water resistance."

It definitely looks more competent than the Pentax W-series underwater cameras. Don't know about the image quality, though.

Great review, as always. Slightly shaky hands (coffee?), but otherwise everything is perfect.

PS: what's that odd sound I keep hearing in your video?
