Is including a boss absolutely necessary? I have made 2 shields and not used a boss, but they wound up breaking, and didn't absorb a lot of the impacts, I think just from being made out of fiber-glassed plywood. I have started a 3rd plank shield, made out of 2.5x5.5 pine planks. It is 24in long by 18in tall. If you have any advice, I would love to hear back.
Trying to find a round anvil you used to finish the piece off - did you make that yourself or are they available somewhere? Any tips on that on? Thanks - love the video, learned a lot. Just started building my first shield for re-enactments
You listen to some good music, bro.

Hey thanks for the video tons of help. I do have a few questions for you:
One: How did you make the dishing stump? Like how did you make the impressions in it.
Two: Were do you get the Planishing tool? You can get back to me at jbarone80@gmail.com thanks
germanhuntingdog 1 year ago
@germanhuntingdog The dishing stump was made with a chainsaw. You just use the tip of the saw to carve the dishes out.

I always figured 16 gauge would be too thin for this

@lockbreak12 14gauge would be better, if you plan on fighting with the shield...
