I'm a huge fan of both Dirk and KG, but KG is a better all around player. KG was a DPOY, Dirk is a below average defender at best. He WAS soft earlier in his career. The Warriors took his heart away in the first round of the playoffs in his MVP year. I still think Dirk's a top 5 PF of all time, but KG was a better defender, rebounder, and passer in his career. It just so happens Dirk has aged a lot more gracefully on the court due to his unbelievabel shooting ability.

LOL at so many people saying KG has owned Dirk when they matched up against each other. So wrong. Dirk > KG every single time when they've matched up. KG is the more well rounded player, sure, but Dirk's offensive game has always trumped KG's. No doubt about that. KG's stats have also dipped more than Dirk's over the past few years.
Ill use examples from this year and the other year they made the finals, the defending champion spurs with prime duncan,bowen and manu were amazing. The reason they struggled against mavs is cause they couldnt stop dirk which made all the other players better. His 3 point shooting meant they couldnt help against stackhouse in the post. Also being to score whenever you want meant when getting doubled, if your teammates make shots you always have a chance to win. This year they made the open shots

It's obvious that anybody who think KG is better than Dirk didn't watched the 2002 Mavs-Wolves playoffs series. Dirk completely and totally owned KG the whole series. That was KG at his peak and Dirk got much better after that.
Garnett was better when he younger though. Even Dirk said that Garnett was the hardest guy for him to guard. All those knee injuries messed Garnett while Dirk only got better and became more confident. I am not talking anything away from Dirk though. His jumpshot is nearly impossible to guard.
@fmoham01 in garnetts prime dirk dropped 33pts and 17rebounds a game in a 3 game sweep in the playoffs, you can talk about dirks jump shot but dirk and kg stats in rebounds,steals and blocks are almost identical, dirk has better hands then kg. Kg far more athletic and a better ll around defender but if you cant stop dirk and and your not a guy whos gonna drop 30+ when dirk is is scorching you in everyway possible. Kg is at the same level as dirk.

@fmoham01 awww everyone has injuries some more then others but when kg was with the wolves theres no excues, i mean manu has had 2 ankles surgeries but you never hear anyone talking about him. Never a big jordan fan cause i was more impressed with scotties all around game but when jordan,akeem,barkely,clyde and so forth retired the game changed there was a obvious talent drop especially with g.hill,mycdyss,gugliotta,t.brandon,penny and baker getting hurt. When utah faced the suns the suns won and malone only got to the finals when barkely and kemp got fat. Malone was the most durable of all the pfs. I put dirk 1 because he beat duncan in when duncan was in his prime when duncan had bowen and manu. Only now has dirk another player worth mentioning in chandler

IN the late 90's the wolves had a chance to beat the sonics and kg had one of his worst games ever and they lost the series. Against dirk in his prime he threw up monster numbers but dirk averaged 33pts and 17 rebounds a game in a sweep. Dirk and kg play the same position and guarded each other, kg should have gotten at least 1.

Dirk never shed the 'soft' label in my eyes because he is still an offensive player. Defense is 1/2 of the game. Dirk is the better scorer, but KG has always been a top rebounder and defender on top of his scoring production.

I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.

@Kdaddy61987 Maybe now KG is a 3rd option. But then, during the 2007-2008 season, he was #1 and #2 due to his defense, mid-range, and low post skills (not to mention an excellent passer). Injuries has slowed him down the past couple of seasons, NOW making him a 3rd option. Caron Butler was getting All Star considerations when he was in DC and even made the team a few times before ever joining with Dirk. Injuries slowed him down as well, although he's getting back into good form.

If Dirk played with caliber players like Allen, Pierce and Manu, you do realize that his numbers would most likely be down, like with Kevin Garnett's and Tim Duncan's, yet they manage to remain a main cog to their team, stay consistent, produce and win. LOL at so many people saying KG has owned Dirk when they matched up against each other. So wrong. Dirk > KG every single time when they've matched up. KG is the more well rounded player, sure, but Dirk's offensive game has always trumped KG's. No doubt about that. KG's stats have also dipped more than Dirk's over the past few years.

Ill use examples from this year and the other year they made the finals, the defending champion spurs with prime duncan,bowen and manu were amazing. The reason they struggled against mavs is cause they couldnt stop dirk which made all the other players better. His 3 point shooting meant they couldnt help against stackhouse in the post. Also being to score whenever you want meant when getting doubled, if your teammates make shots you always have a chance to win. This year they made the open shots

It's obvious that anybody who think KG is better than Dirk didn't watched the 2002 Mavs-Wolves playoffs series. Dirk completely and totally owned KG the whole series. That was KG at his peak and Dirk got much better after that.

Garnett was better when he younger though. Even Dirk said that Garnett was the hardest guy for him to guard. All those knee injuries messed Garnett while Dirk only got better and became more confident. I am not talking anything away from Dirk though. His jumpshot is nearly impossible to guard.

@fmoham01 in garnetts prime dirk dropped 33pts and 17rebounds a game in a 3 game sweep in the playoffs, you can talk about dirks jump shot but dirk and kg stats in rebounds,steals and blocks are almost identical, dirk has better hands then kg. Kg far more athletic and a better ll around defender but if you cant stop dirk and and your not a guy whos gonna drop 30+ when dirk is is scorching you in everyway possible. Kg is at the same level as dirk.

Never a big jordan fan cause i was more impressed with scotties all around game but when jordan,akeem,barkely,clyde and so forth retired the game changed there was a obvious talent drop especially with g.hill,mycdyss,gugliotta,t.brandon,penny and baker getting hurt. @BexOfficialChannel wow let me give you a more realistc list, 1-dirk 2-duncan 3-barkely 4-kemp 5-malone. I put kemp in there cause when seattle had payton and kemp they beat pheonix and utah. When utah faced the suns the suns won and malone only got to the finals when barkely and kemp got fat. Malone was the most durable of all the pfs. I put dirk 1 because he beat duncan in when duncan was in his prime when duncan had bowen and manu. Only now has dirk another player worth mentioning in chandler

IN the late 90's the wolves had a chance to beat the sonics and kg had one of his worst games ever and they lost the series. Against dirk in his prime he threw up monster numbers but dirk averaged 33pts and 17 rebounds a game in a sweep. Dirk and kg play the same position and guarded each other, kg should have gotten at least 1.

in all fairness the wolves did get robbed by the refs vs the lakers. lol speaking of barkley, charles even said it himself that the refs decided that series and made him root for the wolves. The championship mavs had an undeniably better team than any of KG's wolves.
Dirk never shed the 'soft' label in my eyes because he is still an offensive player. Defense is 1/2 of the game. Dirk is the better scorer, but KG has always been a top rebounder and defender on top of his scoring production.

He actually stop chris bosh at times in the finals which is something kg didnt do this past year. People put a superstar label on somebody and these analysts who most of them are clueless say they need to be great at everything. I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.

great, dirk is a great free throw shooter, but look at his touches % and areas he is fouled, barely any in the paint. The day I see Dirk involved in a pick and roll that works and he actually doesn't flop running into another big, the day he doesnt run into a screen and get banged up, the day he doesn't settle for outside shots and drives into the lane and proves, not even explosiveness, he will never prove that. Yeah Dirk isn't a particularly good post-up player, he shoots fucking well though and some of his jumpers are pretty much unblockable. So i wouldn't call him bad, not when he's averaging over 25 a game and shoots around .500.

@kingehi just to let you know dirk swept kg in the playoffs and he did lose when he was the higher seeds in minnostoa, also the year kg went to the western conference finals vs the lakers he really didnt do much. Kg is a nice player but he lacked the intangebles do be considered even top 5. Also you can look up manu ginobli punking kg when manu blocks him and throws kg to the ground. Lastly dirk dropped 32pts and 19 rebounds on david west and tyson chandler for a win. Dirk never been swept.

Rasho won a ring after he was traded from the wolves,chaucey billups won a ring after being traded from the wolves. @SmoothMM oh no i actually have no problem with that cause the mavs are the better team but when you have 2 players who are at the best at the same postion you should never get swept. Wade didnt get swpet by boston, clyde didnt ever get swept, dirk and nahs never been swept, miller didnt get swept. That saying if your a superstar you can get 1. Also kg is the 3rd scoring option in boston, kind of a fact, hes there best help defender and mid range defender but hes 3rd option behind ray.

@Kdaddy61987 Maybe now KG is a 3rd option. But then, during the 2007-2008 season, he was #1 and #2 due to his defense, mid-range, and low post skills (not to mention an excellent passer). Injuries has slowed him down the past couple of seasons, NOW making him a 3rd option. Caron Butler was getting All Star considerations when he was in DC and even made the team a few times before ever joining with Dirk. Injuries slowed him down as well, although he's getting back into good form.

@SmoothMM Question how is butler a all-star, to me if i can name 8 better players at the same psotion your not a all-star for the simple fact in the playoffs you'll be a weak link just like last year when he got benched in game 3 cause manu shut him down. You cant be a all-star if the opposing player at your postion makes you look foolish. Also they year boston won the ring ppg- garnett 18.8 peirce 19.6 allen 17.4. To that he only took .04 more shots then allen in the reg season.

When Hakeem dominated Robinson in their playoffs series back in the mid 90s, that didn't mean that Robinson wasn't an All Star: Hakeem was just better. An All Star is a player who hugely contributes their team and may be ranked among some of the top players at their position in the league.

If Dirk played with caliber players like Allen, Pierce and Manu, you do realize that his numbers would most likely be down, like with Kevin Garnett's and Tim Duncan's, yet they manage to remain a main cog to their team, stay consistent, produce and win. Dirk is NOT the greatest PF to ever play the game, but he is one of the best PF. Hopefully, he will win a ring before he retires.

@SmoothMM well the eric dampier and other starters is kind of a work with what you got type of thing. You think washington wanted to start andre blatche? They thought they had the right pcs around dirk but i have never liked team around him and still dont. Butler is a average sg but he will get all-star notice this year due to playing with dirk like howard and harris before him.

@SmoothMM Also the thing everyone will remember most about boston when they won it all is when peirce and lebron both went for 40+ and when peirce dominated kobe, those were the turing points of the series. LAslty kg had wally and chauncey billups and rasho. rasho is better then dampier which is why he has a ring as he was the starter for the spurs in a championship. If kg was a true star player he could of gotten 1. That wolves team was pretty good even if you dont want to give them credit.

Chauncey wasn't as developed then as he is now and Rasho "is better than Dampier" but that's individual performance if that's the case. Dallas must have been a better to sweep KG's squad then, so you can't just blame KG (even though people tend to blame star players anyway).

@SmoothMM im not blaming kg for not winning the series im blaming him for not getting 1. He didnt have 1 game where he showed hsi a top 3 pf in the game. For instance last year d-wade blew up 1 game and said a superstar can get you 1. dirk vs new orleans. Dirk had 32 pts and 19 rebounds, he wasnt going to lose that game. Also the big thing to me about kg is he has never shown that superstar capility. Yes hes a great player, great team player but as a star player he has failed.

@Kdaddy61987 You forget that the Wolves & Mavs had a 5 game format then: best of 3. The Heat were down 3-0 against Boston. If KG had a 7 game format, he maybe could've got 1. And that doesn't mean he's not a star player just b/c he didn't win one game in the series: he went up against a good team. Like when the Bobcats played Orlando last year. They were a good team and played great D against the Magic but Orlando had more scoring power and swept them. Crash and Steph are stars on their team.
