I seriously hope the medical board reviews this Dr.s medical licence because it looks like he just breached his medical ethic's code. I would start out by checking his bank records for any large deposits from US lighting manufactures.
Most people don't know this but GE among others are behind the Anti-CFL propaganda. It was a GE engineer who original invented the CFL but GE management didn't think the CFL was worthy of a patent so they never patented it, As a result it has cost them billions.
@logos2600 Yes, I was responding to particknedz's comment who inquired about the video's report of the lack of safety of LED's. The clip is about CFL not being safe.
@patricknedz They're actually dangerous with dimmers because their components can't handle drastic differences in voltage. Too much or too little voltage can cook their components from the inside. The only thing saving you from fire is fire retardant insulation mandated by Energy Star certifications. There are special versions for chandeliers, but they are harder to find.
@patricknedz Do you have old CFLs? The new ones are great with dimmers, don't have delay when you turn them on, and don't flicker at all. They have changed. For dimmers you have to get the models made for dimmers of course
@poiiihy get your facts straight. What does "have radio and poison metal inside" even mean? if you're trying to say "radioactive materials and toxic metal", that would not be an LED. White LEDs are made of one of the following compounds: Zinc selenide (ZnSe), Indium gallium nitride (InGaN), Silicon carbide (SiC) as substrate, or Silicon (Si) as substrate. CFLs on the other hand, have mercury in them - a known toxic metal.
@poiiihy also, how do you "crack an LED"? Short of massively overdriving the diode (something made largely impossible by the power circuitry built into a household LED bulb) or bashing it with a sledgehammer, an LED isn't going to crack.
There is indeed radiation produced from CFL's, but that radiation is Electromagnetic radiation, i.e. visible light. The brighter the light, the more electromagnetic radiation it outputs. LED's are brighter on average than CFL's, therefore LED's produce more EM radiation. Not saying LED's are bad, I'm just pointing it out.
Even though CFL's contain a trace amount of mercury they are safer for the environment because their actually Mercury foot print is smaller then a traditional incandescent.
Fact the latest generation of CFL's contain about 1.5mg of Mercury
Fact The Mercury foot print of a standard 100 watt Incandescent bulb is a whopping 165mg.
Fact by switching to CFL's you are substantially reducing the amount of Mercury being released into the atmosphere.
It's interesting you show the CFL inside an upside down fixture
.
In MY fixtures the heat from the bulb becomes trapped, and the CFL dies within a month or two (the heat cooks the capacitors). I'd be better off using incandescents that don't mind getting hot
Buy incandescents now while you can. 100 watt will be illegal jan 1 2011,
60 and 75 watts in 2012 and the remainder the following year.
I buy incandesants every week to have when we can no longer buy em.
They are already begining to go up in price. I was buying a 4 pack last year for as little as 69 cents. Now its as much a $1 a pack.
As to claims that they last longer....BULL SHIT. I have tried them. never had one last over 6 mounths. I've got real bulbs in fixtures that have lasted 5 years
EPA guidelines for broken CFL bulbs: :1) Vacate the room 2) open windows 3) shut off your central air heating systems 4) wear gloves, scoop up glass fragments using stiff cardboard 5) place glass in glass jar with metal lid 6) use sticky tape to pick up remaining glass fragments 7) Wipe area clean with wet paper towel 8) place remaining glass fragment in glass jar 9 DO NOT use a vacuum or broom 10) turn heating system back on 11) close windows.... What if it is 5 degrees outside?
I refuse to use the new light bulbs because of the dangers with mercury.
I know where I can get all the incandescent bulbs I want on the black market at a lower cost and without the health hazards of the mercury filled bulbs that have enough mercury to poison 528 gallons of water.
You can send me to jail, you can put me in prison. No mercury filled bulbs that are manufactured outside of the U.S. for me. Thanks, but no thanks Obama.
@DwightSimpson you will be able to buy incandescent bulbs that meet the requirements of energy consumption and the law that requires it, let incandescent bulbs exist, just as long as they meet these standards...they do have them, and they will. LED ARE superior INHO...Remember too, the law was signed into law in 2007, by then President Bush. I believe the law will ultimately benefit us with GREATER choice. We'll see!
@dannon2010 I've got a good stockpile of the old incandescent light bulbs so am in good shape.
Obama, through his inaction, has created the best business opportunity for the entrepreneur on the black market (not to mention job prospect for the unemployed) since his original "cash for clunkers" program.
@dannon2010 what u probably dont know is that by 2020, most incandescent bulbs will not meet the standard which basically might phase out all of them. if this law will benefit us with greater choices, then the consumer outa be the ones to decide that. Not congress. since im paying my light bill, i will decide what bulbs i can buy. word of advice, dont always believe in what government tells u. Otherwise u might be sorry in the long run.
@noreaga12326 what I DO know is that LED's will offer up a wide range of colors and frequencies...even if what you say is true, which it isn't. If I had a choice between adding a couple more coal power plants or listening to people bitch about something as stupid as a light bulb...the choice to me is clear. There are plenty of reasons to complain about the government..Patriot Act, civil liberties, unfair tax codes....the government forcing conservation is the last on my list of gripes.
@dannon2010 if what ur saying about LEDs is true, then consumers are the ones who outa decide if they want them or not. I dont need government telling me what to choose for my house. Since im the guy paying for my light bill, i'l choose whatever bulbs i want. if u want government telling u what bulbs to use, go for it,
@noreaga12326 the reason the government has to step in, is that just because it's the less expensive alternative, or more popular color of light, it isn't what's sustainable in the long haul. Sometimes we have to "sacrifice" the color of our light for the greater good...If we keep using energy the way were are, especially via consumers that have other alternatives for everyday uses, at half + the energy consumption, we will have TRUE shortages...never mind WATER, now there are some problems!
@dannon2010 I'm the guy who owns my house and whos paying for everything here, including my light bill. so i will decide what bulbs suit me.these greenie environmentalist government is they're chipping away at America's freedom little by little. we do need laws to protect citizens. Not driving on the wrong side of the road or taking red lights. But this is a light bulb. I dont have to sacrafice anything. I'm not using shitty light cuz of some paranoid lib-tard thinking its "good 4 the earth

Use a digital caliper or similar electronic device, and hold the device within 3 to 5 feet of a CFL twisty bulb. Then watch the fun begin. Then hold the digital calipers up to a microwave oven. The calipers have to be directly up against the microwave chamber to create the same effect. I think there are excessive EMFs (Electromagnetic Field) emitting from the CFL, which is why we do NOT install the twistys unless they are at least 8 feet away from human traffic.
Do not forget the back lighting in most LCD monitors and LCD TVs are florescent! Same as these CFLs.... LEDs are the best way to go but expensive! Incandescents will always be the cheapest
I use CFLs in my office and never gotten a headache from em. And Im using holagens in my room and I dont get a headache from them either, and those are supposed to emit alot of radiation.
Not only do they produce EMF and have Mercury in them. They are some that believe that the electronic ballast in the light can be coupled with the new digital meters on every house and that the meter can send a signal to the cfl and produce a strobing effect that can cause seizures
Cant believe people bitching about a product that contains Mercury , has an evacuation notice if the bulb breaks.People have had reactions to its ultraviolet and blue light . Warnings to not get close to the bulbs for a prolonged period of time ....
What was wrong with the old bulbs that will now be banned .... Hmmm... Strange days.
i dont know much about the health affects from cfls. i'l have to do research on them. all i know is that government should stay out of ppls business. Nobody tells them how to light his house, so why are they gona tell me what bulbs i can use? CFLs are ugly, they give off horrible light and they dont last that long like ppl say they do. its False advertisement to try to get u to buy these ugly bulbs from china.
You are just an idiot looking for a problem to bitch about. Here is the deal buddy, the bulbs are on the market - not being shipped off and forced into peopled homes. You have the choice to go to your hardware store and find other means of lighting. For all I care you can just make your roof glass. Trust me there is no "headache" conspiracy - I get headaches from lights on all the time - its called a fucking hangover dipshit.

there is a far greater amout of electomagnetic radiation in peoples' homes from mobile phone signals, sattelite tv signals, radio, and even granite rocks than would be caused by cfl's. LED lightbulbs hopefully will soon be the answer, but not yet as they are not bright enough.
LED's emit electromagnetic radiation too you know, even are bodies emit it, there is more radiation coming from ordinary things than there is from that lightbulb. If you believe this you must be very feeble.
I have a CFL lamp that I use daily to study, and apply makeup. So, this bulb is literally less than a foot away from my face. Iv'e been getting a strange chem smell from this, and my paranoia's been telling me it was radiation (somehow) radiation has no smell, but turns out I was correct Ironic how I've been getting chronic migranes within the month of using this :O
BS, Led bulbs suck at warming up your bathroom on a cold day. I saved my 100 watt incandescent bulbs for winter days when I need light and heat in my bathroom. 600 watts of light and heat and it actually warms the room up just right and is cheaper than a 1500 watt heater. Incandescent have a place, just as heat lamps or such. I have replaced all 30 other bulbs with LED at a cost of 400 dollars but have saved double that. LED's are the future but should not be the only choice.
By 2012 the Canadian government has decided in "their" best interest to ban new incandescant lights from being sold.
Completely appalling that their goal is to force people into this!
And they haven't even considered the dangers to the environment and what consumers who are being forced to purchase these will do with them once they burn out?
I absolutely will not be purchasing flourescent lights for my home.
These CFL bulbs also have mercury in them; a deadly poison. Please explain how this is good for the environment? The proper way to dispose of one is to box it up, and mail it to the politician who voted to import them into this country. Let him or her know that you are concerned about the environment and you know that that politician actually knows what is best for the environment, and you don't want to risk polluting the environment.
Well I do suffer from headaches. And I replaced most of the old bulbs with these new cfl's voluntarily so far they haven't caused Any headaches in me. I have a warm white cfl on most of the night,so far nothing.
LED is not ready, it's too expensive, very sensitive to temperature, and the best LEDs out there are barley comparable to a standard 60 WATT bulb at less than 800 lumens. Most Led bulbs clock in at less than 100 lumens. Look at the Pharox III, they say 60 WATT replacement, it's 366 lumens, that's almost half as bright, for $60, or $1 each for a regular 60 WATT. In 2 years the LED would pay for it's self if it does not burn out.
So... since incadescent lights are going to be PROHIBITED starting 2014 the "few" people who develop headaches from CFL are going to be screwed. For those of you who don't know what migraine is, it's as bad as any torture. Maybe worse.
So yeah, we now see the spectacle of environmentalist nut jobs and their socialist pals in Congress condemning thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of people to torture. Excuse me while I puke.
CFL bulbs do flicker and do cause migraines for some people.
How you can state otherwise is absolutely preposterous.
But let's not even talk about that issue, let's discuss the mercury that is contained within them and the potential danger of exposure to mercury if say you have to break one.
And the effects to the environment? What will be the effects to the environment in Canada as a result of these bulbs going to landfills?
All light sources that run on alternating current flicker.
Te effects on the enviroment are not that big, most of the mercury (and lead)comes from (car)batteries, solder andpaint etc.And i didnt know Canada other light sources than candles.
@YoYoBIOS I suffer from migraines and I have gotten migraines from the CFLs. Also, I like the light output of my 60W incandescent bulbs. They are just right amount of light and they don't hurt my eyes. I also like that I don't have to take them to a recycling center when they burn out. And we do have a chandelier, it came with the house
BTW, if you have a dimmer, you have to get an even more expensive kind of CFL, because the normal ones burn out faster than incandescent in those light fixtures.
@rasmasyean the difference is APPEREANCE. anyone who cant tell the difference between a cfl bulb and flourecent bulbs that we've been using for decades needs to get their heads examined
@rasmasyean if cfls were that great, ppl would buy them with out governements REGULATIONS. maybe ur a bit to slow to notice that congress wants to force ppl to use these ugly, gloomy chinese bulbs because they know for a fact that most ppl prefer old skool incandescents. again, not everybody is the governments pet like u
@noreaga12326 No, most ppl prefer cheap electricity and buy the warm white CFLs. Daylight CFL's was for a small amount of ppl who can afford expensive bulbs (like LED's now), but now they cheaper and some ppl like those too (which you can't match with incans). Believe it or not, some ppl like working environments at home or just like the color. The same ppl who can afford expensive stuff. And the government isn't green. They want to reduce oil dependency, but not because of the environment.
@rasmasyean theres nothing wrong with cheap electricity. Im all for it but i say, if we're gona pay less out of our pockets, AT LEAST, come up with some better quality bulbs. you like what u like and you're entitled. Incandescents are more expensive to use but there are ppl who can afford it. Until the government starts paying for my light bill, i will decide which bulbs suit me the best. Plus during the winter, the heat from incandescents are welcomed. In the summer,i dont use them as much
@noreaga12326 Well, heating isn't what a light bulb is for. Use a heater instead of improvising: works much better and is cheaper. And the government doesn't make anything. They just figured it reduces carbon consumption. You know the transport of 100,000 incans vs. 10,000 cfls makes a difference too. And your "environmental logic" doesn't make sense, because cfls have mercury and electronic waste. So the environment means jack. It's all about money. when oilis cheap, e-car craze will be dead
@rasmasyean i know what a light bulb is used for. and u said it urself . the government "FIGURED" it reduces carbon consumption. I'm not gona trust what congress FIGURED. Cuz most likely, what they FIGURED, isnt true. i never made any envionmental logics. I"m repeating what u crazy liberals claim. That incandescents are bad for the environment and cfls are better for the environment. i already told u that i wasnt that sure about the mercury in cfls. U need to pay more attention to what ppl say
@rasmasyean Also, not all incandescents are being banned. anything below 40 watts, above 100 watts, flood light versions, appliance lighting, colored bulbs and rough surface lighting are not included in the ban. Plus, Halogen bulbs have appeared in the market (edisons with energy efficiency) and its proven that they're efficient enough to stay in the market (they have these bulbs that are as much as 70% energy efficient) so thankfully, america will not be stuck with JUST chinese bulbs or LEDs
@noreaga12326 How you know Chinese aren't gonna make incans you use? Who cares. Making a light bulb isn't the most glamorous job in the world. No prestige is given to the country that makes most of the world's most ancient industrial revolution invention ever. And they will prolly make LED bulbs too. It's like importing bananas from south america. So what if we don't grow it here and farm jobs are gone. Move on to something bigger and better and more high tech.
@rasmasyean dude, u know exactly what im stating here. stop making something small into one big thing. i've used plenty of things that are made in china.the old skool circular flourecent bulbs. Those are made in china. i'm all for high tech as long as the quality is good. in my opinion, CFLs look like shit. Even LEDs are not that nice. stop believing in everything u see on the disney channel about cfls. i'm not using them cuz their light quality sucks. im sticking with edison bulbs for life.
@noreaga12326 You don't know what you are talking about. It looks like shit to you because incans remind you of "old skool home" where you grew up in. That's all. In reality incans emits wavelengths based on heating the specific material and is usually yellowish. They are able to tune flourescents up to near "daylight" cheaply which is like what it looks like outside to the human eye. White paper can actually appear "white"! I can easily say light bulbs look like shit because I like fireplaces!
@rasmasyean are u retarded?? ur one funny character. How are u gona tell me what i like and why i like them?? if things were switched the other way around where incandescents were made to replace cfls, i would STILL go with incandescents, even if i grew up with cfls. TO ME, cfls give off gloomy ugly color. I hate to break it to u, but MOST ppl prefer edison bulbs. If u dont believe that, then thats on u.in MY OPINION, if ur whole house has cfls, then ur taste in lighting sucks. plz post more
@rasmasyean no matter how hard u try, you and your other eco friendly moron family will never convince me to use cfls. i have tried a few of them a few years back and they look like shit. And on top of that, they dont last as long as u greenies claim they do. so YOU dont know what ur takling about. as im talking to u, i have a lamp thats turned on by my desk with an incandescent candle shaped bulb. does that get u mad?? please post more so i can keep laughing at ur idiotic comments
The EPA has outlandish rules on just disposing these High Efficency Bulbs. With all these savings going on. The money saved is spent on waste handling, and even more of breakage.
But waste disposal of these bulbs far exceeds the savings created during use. And worse if you break a bulb. Mercury is a cancer causing agent. And a bulb that blows out while in use sends out vaporized mercury particulate into the immediate area air.
Why do liberals dream up this crap called progress Green Style? P
@Less1leg2 liberals are religious nut jobs. They're also scam artists who wana force the public to use something THAT THEY THINK is gona benefit everyone, when it doesnt. my advice to u is to do what im doing it. Stock up on old skool edison bulbs.
• You may be partially right. LED Flashlights are better than incandescent bulb flashlights. A floor lamp may not light up your whole room, but the lamp and bulb will last you a very long time.
There is a lamp called Jansjö, it has a lifetime of 25.000 hrs / 4 hrs (used per day) = 6250 days of LED light, 6250 days / 365 days = 17.12 years...
Now this may be shitty now, but more advanced in the future.
they make a sound that is high pitch and with others make an effect on the eras to cause a HIGH PITCHED SOUND higher than smoke alarms and very anoying and lasting! I have like 25 such bulbs on and some on ( 24 a day) I did not know it was them till I actually walked up to one and listen.. the sound is similar to what I hear in my ears just a bit lower pitch.
They all have a sound and mix not well with each other!
Its all bullshit they are good bulbs to lower or bill but there not green so thats why i use them cuz 1 they lower my bill and two there not green and going green is bullshit too.
@bronzeonion yea u jsut get rage and a bad mood evident from your mental capslock. there is no doubt they give of a horrible negative energy. and there light is shit. they give me headachees. u may not get em but your just less sensitive. there horrible
@bronzeonion i dont get headaches from cfls but i have friends who do get headaches from cfls. just like the person below stated, ur just one of the lucky ones who are not sensitive to cfls. many others are not so lucky. they also say that cfls contain mercury which is true but im not sure if its enough to cause health concerns. i'l have to read up on that more. but if ppl i know get headaches from cfls, then i wouldnt doubt if they had enough mercury to threaten someones health.
@noreaga12326 Do you friends get headaches from LCD monitors too? Because that's what's in the backlight of an LCD monitor. Don't tell them before hand. First ask them so they will tell you without knowing that the LCD monitor is backlit by CFL type bulbs.
@rasmasyean as ive said b4, IM NOT SURE how much mercury is in these cfls but yes, ppl have told me they've gottan headaches from using these bulbs. Just by the way u post, u seem like one of the eco friendly morons who think that cfls will prevent the planet from warming up. U liberals come up with the most mornic views i've ever heard
@noreaga12326 Actually, you're just making stuff up and putting words in ppl's mouth to argue your point. You're just trollin. I actually never met anyone who got headaches from this. Maybe because I live in metro and everyone is used to flurescents? I dunno. But for me it's worth it because I don't have to chance the bulb often. I can give 2 cruds about the environment, but if it saves some money and time, it's good to me!
@rasmasyean lol on yea im actually "making up" something as ppl that i know getting headaches. ur a religious nut job. or mayb its the fact that it bothers u that MOST ppl like me will not fall for ur green scams. if u think that cfls will save the planet, ur entitled to think that. but I'm proud of my home and i will not turn my house, looking like the inside of a office or an E.R for a MYTH that cfls will save the planet. Not everybody is that stupid.
Sounds like BS, I have Daylight 6500k bulbs throughout my home and my family of 6 loves them. It may have given them a headache if the wattage was too high; we all know how some people use 100w no matter the bulb type.
Why do American anti-CFL videos always show people screwing the bulb in by holding the glass and not the base? Instructions on most CFL boxes specifically state not to put pressure on the glass. Maybe that's why so many people seem to break these bulbs and go into a panic. I have been using CFLs for 13 years and have yet to break one.
Heres an experiment you can do at home to prove these things are harmful. Take a directional compass and put it close to a CFL with the light on then slowly move it away then back. You will see the magnetic field change.
I still have some CFLs that I purchased 10 years ago, that are still working. I replace my porch light bulb about once every 2-3 years, because it's on the most.
@pinkyzoey well I can't comment on that but I had a cfl almost set my house on fire when the base started melting, wasn't even a cheapo one it was a phillips.
I got rid of all those and got a pack of ge ones 2 years ago and 5/6 are already dead
Why isn't anyone complaining about linear fluorescent tubes. They contain way more mercury than cfls and actually use a much larger electronic ballast that emits "dirty energy" ten fold. They are both the same ballast electronic 20Khz but no complaints. Older magnetic ballast are even worse they flicker like a sob and contain PCP"s!!!
I'm never using them! I got some free ones in the mail from my local power company and immediately threw them in the garbage where they belong. They give off an unnatural light and will NEVER be able to give of that soft, natural glow that incandescent bulbs provide. Fuck congress and government intrusion dictating to us! They are most likely getting huge kick-backs from china to change all these lights out. Come and arrest me now because i'm never switching.
What about the thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals used in the LED making process? OK they are not in your house in the LED themselves but where did they go once dirty from being used, and how much enegry and other chemicals is used to recycle them?
I bought a pack of four thinking I would do the right thing. supposedly they last a long time. HAH! one died after only four months and two more died within a few more weeks. Since they were made in China I hope the store where I bought them can make China repay them rather then just absorb the cost. GE could have made the new bulbs in PA where the incandescent were made but NO, they had to take them to China. GE thinks Americans don't need jobs. Americans don't need GE either.
OH, and by the way, set your monitors to ANYTHING other then 60mhz since it will cause your monitor to flicker! Change it to 70 or 55 or anything other then 60.
I am not very happy about CFL because three times CFL already burn out and smoke into air. Mecury vapor air that make my left eye become blind for 45 second and restore my left eye to see again for first time. I hate CFL because of mercury and HIGH EMF! I bough LED light without Mercury and some other low 25 or 60 watt incadescend light bulbs. CFL is very dangerous because fire and smoke mecury vapor into air. BAN lousy CFL!
The announcer is either a liar or a total moron. CFL's most definitely DO NOT "eliminate flicker" -- they CAUSE it, along with all gases discharge bulbs, without exception.
@bubbafication u silly man. they have a heated filament which doesnt flicker at all. the filament which once up to temperature is almost completely unnaffected by the alternating current. the gases on the other hand are. man use ur brain.
@conceptual0theorist Are you for real? Research before you comment. "use my brian"? you should invest in one. Have you ever heard of a ballast checker? it is a tool use by lighting installers to identify electronic ballast or magnetic ballast without removing any covers. It works by measuring flckering caused by lights. 60 cycles for magnetic ballast and 20-30K for electronic ballast. What do you think happens to a filament when the power is cycling 60 times a second? Flicker!!
@bubbafication the flicker is not detectable by the human eye. it is barely affected by the ac. but it is affected slightly. i know that flicker can be detected by equipment but the flicker for compact fluorescents is higher. i apologise for being rude as you are technically correct. i just hate cfbs!
@conceptual0theorist 60Hz flicker is detectable by the human brian. You can't see the flicker if you look directly at it but perifiral vision can detect it. It is proven to cause head aches especially in offices with old magnetic ballasted fluorescent T12 lighting and is rectified by retrofitting them to electronic ballast which are the same ballast used in cfl's. this flicker is also present in incandesents.
General Electric is the largest producer of these CFL light bulbs in the world. They are produced very in only China. GE has a very strong lobby in Washington which may ( and you can bet on it ) have caused this to become law. GE invested in the future by using payola to pass this law.
Everyone who has used these bulb knows that they do not light a room anywhere near as efficiently as an incandescent bulb.

Not ONLY do these suckers cause my head to feel like I've been hit with a sledgehammer, but I have systemic lupus and these lights make disease activity go through the roof, and that, is no shit. They are dangerous, throw the human energy system completely out of balance, and everyone needs to know this. Don't we have enough troubles getting through this world as it is? throw these damn things out.
Everyone's different but I'm overly sensitive to these light bulbs. It's not JUST about migraines. They bother my eyes alot which wears me out. And for years it's been recommended that people that work under them where some kind of hat. They can make a person tired, they do me. . Theres is better information out there then just what's reported here...why was the report, although informative just mediocre. FYI LED's bother my eyes as well.
I had a cfl in my room, and of course I found they give me headaches. I now have an led light, no headaches, no sore eyes, and a much better quality of light!!! Amazing!!!
We've had CFL's for over 6 years and never got a headache from them. I buy the ones from big box hardware stores, not the ones from the dollar store that have a weird blueish light. I bought just one of those cheap ones from the dollar store and did bother my eyes.....Maybe cost / quality is a factor.
this video is retarded. RF is a frequency not radiation. and CFL's actually put less mercury into the environment than incandescents. look it up the info here is bullshit.
The old conventional light bulbs are brilliant. Now these crappy light bulbs which I think are worse and are more difficult to dispose of have come in.
I've been working for 3 years in a Lighting Department and I have very rare headaches, but I'm affraid of the health risks, since I have to clean up the stuff with my bare hands... since customers always have to touch shit.
Even Prevention Magazine is saying not to use these bulbs because of radiation exposure. See the January 2010 issue or go to website and type: CALIFORNIA CLUSTER in the Keyword Search box and then read "Is Dirty Electricity Making You Sick." They have a HUGE amount of info on this and it will scare you out of your mind. They say "Avoid compact fluorescent bulbs, which emit dirty electricity. A CFL saves energy by turning itself on and off repeatedly, as many as 100,000 times per second."
What the fuck, you morons? EM radiation has NO fucking effect on any human being. What the fuck gave you that idea?
The only health hazard these things cause is if you break them. And the only way that can be a danger is if you don't have the brain power required to ventilate the room.
Oh wow! My entire house runs on Fluorescent CFL bulbs :S although I don't get headaches often... unless I'm stressed out. By the way... are our fixtures even able to put in LED bulbs?

I seriously hope the medical board reviews this Dr.s medical licence because it looks like he just breached his medical ethic's code. I would start out by checking his bank records for any large deposits from US lighting manufactures.
Most people don't know this but GE among others are behind the Anti-CFL propaganda. It was a GE engineer who original invented the CFL but GE management didn't think the CFL was worthy of a patent so they never patented it, As a result it has cost them billions.

its 2011 and we still have the normal bulbs, I dont like the CFL bulbs they horrible with dimmers
patricknedz 2 months ago
@patricknedz They're actually dangerous with dimmers because their components can't handle drastic differences in voltage. Too much or too little voltage can cook their components from the inside. The only thing saving you from fire is fire retardant insulation mandated by Energy Star certifications. There are special versions for chandeliers, but they are harder to find.
MIKON8ERISBACK 1 month ago
@patricknedz Do you have old CFLs? The new ones are great with dimmers, don't have delay when you turn them on, and don't flicker at all. They have changed. For dimmers you have to get the models made for dimmers of course

@patricknedz talking CFL here, not LED.
GregWn 1 month ago
@poiiihy get your facts straight. What does "have radio and poison metal inside" even mean? if you're trying to say "radioactive materials and toxic metal", that would not be an LED. White LEDs are made of one of the following compounds: Zinc selenide (ZnSe), Indium gallium nitride (InGaN), Silicon carbide (SiC) as substrate, or Silicon (Si) as substrate. CFLs on the other hand, have mercury in them - a known toxic metal.
UberDoktor 2 weeks ago
@poiiihy also, how do you "crack an LED"? Short of massively overdriving the diode (something made largely impossible by the power circuitry built into a household LED bulb) or bashing it with a sledgehammer, an LED isn't going to crack.
UberDoktor 2 weeks ago
leds have radio and poison metal inside
poiiihy 2 months ago
@poiiihy No, they don't. LEDs are just diodes that emit visible light. Silicon is not poisonous, last time I checked.
chrwl007 3 weeks ago
There is indeed radiation produced from CFL's, but that radiation is Electromagnetic radiation, i.e. visible light. The brighter the light, the more electromagnetic radiation it outputs. LED's are brighter on average than CFL's, therefore LED's produce more EM radiation. Not saying LED's are bad, I'm just pointing it out.
RadioTrefoil 3 months ago
"Compound Florecent [sic] lights emit large amounts of electromagnetic radiation". Isn't that the whole point of lights though? To emit light?

how can it be GREEN if the bulbs contain MERCURY!!!!???? a poison~!!??
dangerzonetattoo 4 months ago
@dangerzonetattoo
Blaze1024 4 weeks ago
It's interesting you show the CFL inside an upside down fixture
.
In MY fixtures the heat from the bulb becomes trapped, and the CFL dies within a month or two (the heat cooks the capacitors). I'd be better off using incandescents that don't mind getting hot

Reasons why to get headaches:
1. Flickering CFL bulbs
2. CFLs too bright.
3. Mercury content in CFLs (DANGER!!!)
4. CFL's radiation
infact why is the government illegalizing the use of 100w incandescent bulbs by next year?? (2011)

DwightSimpson 6 months ago
@DwightSimpson you will be able to buy incandescent bulbs that meet the requirements of energy consumption and the law that requires it, let incandescent bulbs exist, just as long as they meet these standards...they do have them, and they will. LED ARE superior INHO...Remember too, the law was signed into law in 2007, by then President Bush. I believe the law will ultimately benefit us with GREATER choice. We'll see!

DwightSimpson 6 months ago
@dannon2010 what u probably dont know is that by 2020, most incandescent bulbs will not meet the standard which basically might phase out all of them. if this law will benefit us with greater choices, then the consumer outa be the ones to decide that. Not congress. since im paying my light bill, i will decide what bulbs i can buy. word of advice, dont always believe in what government tells u. Otherwise u might be sorry in the long run.
noreaga12326 4 months ago
@noreaga12326 what I DO know is that LED's will offer up a wide range of colors and frequencies...even if what you say is true, which it isn't. If I had a choice between adding a couple more coal power plants or listening to people bitch about something as stupid as a light bulb...the choice to me is clear. There are plenty of reasons to complain about the government..Patriot Act, civil liberties, unfair tax codes....the government forcing conservation is the last on my list of gripes.
dannon2010 4 months ago
@dannon2010 if what ur saying about LEDs is true, then consumers are the ones who outa decide if they want them or not. I dont need government telling me what to choose for my house. Since im the guy paying for my light bill, i'l choose whatever bulbs i want. if u want government telling u what bulbs to use, go for it,
noreaga12326 4 months ago
@noreaga12326 the reason the government has to step in, is that just because it's the less expensive alternative, or more popular color of light, it isn't what's sustainable in the long haul. Sometimes we have to "sacrifice" the color of our light for the greater good...If we keep using energy the way were are, especially via consumers that have other alternatives for everyday uses, at half + the energy consumption, we will have TRUE shortages...never mind WATER, now there are some problems!

Here is an experiment to try...
Use a digital caliper or similar electronic device, and hold the device within 3 to 5 feet of a CFL twisty bulb. Then watch the fun begin. Then hold the digital calipers up to a microwave oven. The calipers have to be directly up against the microwave chamber to create the same effect. I think there are excessive EMFs (Electromagnetic Field) emitting from the CFL, which is why we do NOT install the twistys unless they are at least 8 feet away from human traffic.

there is a far greater amout of electomagnetic radiation in peoples' homes from mobile phone signals, sattelite tv signals, radio, and even granite rocks than would be caused by cfl's. LED lightbulbs hopefully will soon be the answer, but not yet as they are not bright enough.

The proper way to dispose of one is to box it up, and mail it to the politician who voted to import them into this country.

ExoticCalli 11 months ago
@ExoticCalli
All light sources that run on alternating current flicker.
Te effects on the enviroment are not that big, most of the mercury (and lead)comes from (car)batteries, solder andpaint etc.And i didnt know Canada other light sources than candles.
YoYoBIOS 11 months ago
@YoYoBIOS I suffer from migraines and I have gotten migraines from the CFLs. Also, I like the light output of my 60W incandescent bulbs. They are just right amount of light and they don't hurt my eyes. I also like that I don't have to take them to a recycling center when they burn out. And we do have a chandelier, it came with the house
BTW, if you have a dimmer, you have to get an even more expensive kind of CFL, because the normal ones burn out faster than incandescent in those light fixtures.

noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 No, most ppl prefer cheap electricity and buy the warm white CFLs. Daylight CFL's was for a small amount of ppl who can afford expensive bulbs (like LED's now), but now they cheaper and some ppl like those too (which you can't match with incans). Believe it or not, some ppl like working environments at home or just like the color. The same ppl who can afford expensive stuff. And the government isn't green. They want to reduce oil dependency, but not because of the environment.
rasmasyean 1 year ago
@rasmasyean theres nothing wrong with cheap electricity. Im all for it but i say, if we're gona pay less out of our pockets, AT LEAST, come up with some better quality bulbs. you like what u like and you're entitled. Incandescents are more expensive to use but there are ppl who can afford it. Until the government starts paying for my light bill, i will decide which bulbs suit me the best. Plus during the winter, the heat from incandescents are welcomed. In the summer,i dont use them as much
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 Well, heating isn't what a light bulb is for. Use a heater instead of improvising: works much better and is cheaper. And the government doesn't make anything. They just figured it reduces carbon consumption. You know the transport of 100,000 incans vs. 10,000 cfls makes a difference too. And your "environmental logic" doesn't make sense, because cfls have mercury and electronic waste. So the environment means jack. It's all about money. when oilis cheap, e-car craze will be dead
rasmasyean 1 year ago
@rasmasyean i know what a light bulb is used for. and u said it urself . the government "FIGURED" it reduces carbon consumption. I'm not gona trust what congress FIGURED. That incandescents are bad for the environment and cfls are better for the environment. i already told u that i wasnt that sure about the mercury in cfls. U need to pay more attention to what ppl say
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@rasmasyean Also, not all incandescents are being banned. anything below 40 watts, above 100 watts, flood light versions, appliance lighting, colored bulbs and rough surface lighting are not included in the ban. Plus, Halogen bulbs have appeared in the market (edisons with energy efficiency) and its proven that they're efficient enough to stay in the market (they have these bulbs that are as much as 70% energy efficient) so thankfully, america will not be stuck with JUST chinese bulbs or LEDs
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 How you know Chinese aren't gonna make incans you use? Who cares. Making a light bulb isn't the most glamorous job in the world. No prestige is given to the country that makes most of the world's most ancient industrial revolution invention ever. And they will prolly make LED bulbs too. It's like importing bananas from south america. So what if we don't grow it here and farm jobs are gone. Move on to something bigger and better and more high tech.

noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 You don't know what you are talking about. It looks like shit to you because incans remind you of "old skool home" where you grew up in. That's all. In reality incans emits wavelengths based on heating the specific material and is usually yellowish. They are able to tune flourescents up to near "daylight" cheaply which is like what it looks like outside to the human eye. White paper can actually appear "white"! I can easily say light bulbs look like shit because I like fireplaces!

- Low recycling costs

@noreaga12326 Dam right i still use the old bulbs in my house cuz there the best !
67tr876 1 year ago
@67tr876 u know it, anybody who would ONLY use cfls and leds in their homes has poor taste
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 Ya and i tryed LED'S and they suck at light output !
67tr876 1 year ago
@67tr876 i agree, they do suck. unfortunatly, we got nut jobs on here who claim that LEDs have the same glow as incandescents. thats hilarious
noreaga12326 1 year ago
Migranes???
they make a sound that is high pitch and with others make an effect on the eras to cause a HIGH PITCHED SOUND higher than smoke alarms and very anoying and lasting! I have like 25 such bulbs on and some on ( 24 a day) I did not know it was them till I actually walked up to one and listen.. the sound is similar to what I hear in my ears just a bit lower pitch.
They all have a sound and mix not well with each other!
Peterwhitlock 1 year ago
Its all bullshit they are good bulbs to lower or bill but there not green so thats why i use them cuz 1 they lower my bill and two there not green and going green is bullshit too.
67tr876 1 year ago
@67tr876 very well said. All these liberals need to get a life and quit installing bull shit scams into peoples heads.

NO THEY DONT GIVE YOU HEADACHES EVERY BULB IN MY ROOM IS A CFL AND I DONT GET HEACACHES FROM THEM
bronzeonion 1 year ago
@bronzeonion yea u jsut get rage and a bad mood evident from your mental capslock. there is no doubt they give of a horrible negative energy. and there light is shit. they give me headachees. u may not get em but your just less sensitive. there horrible
conceptual0theorist 1 year ago
@bronzeonion i dont get headaches from cfls but i have friends who do get headaches from cfls. just like the person below stated, ur just one of the lucky ones who are not sensitive to cfls. many others are not so lucky. they also say that cfls contain mercury which is true but im not sure if its enough to cause health concerns. i'l have to read up on that more. but if ppl i know get headaches from cfls, then i wouldnt doubt if they had enough mercury to threaten someones health.
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 Do you friends get headaches from LCD monitors too? Because that's what's in the backlight of an LCD monitor. Don't tell them before hand. First ask them so they will tell you without knowing that the LCD monitor is backlit by CFL type bulbs.
rasmasyean 1 year ago
@rasmasyean as ive said b4, IM NOT SURE how much mercury is in these cfls but yes, ppl have told me they've gottan headaches from using these bulbs. Just by the way u post, u seem like one of the eco friendly morons who think that cfls will prevent the planet from warming up. U liberals come up with the most mornic views i've ever heard
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 Actually, you're just making stuff up and putting words in ppl's mouth to argue your point. You're just trollin. I actually never met anyone who got headaches from this. Maybe because I live in metro and everyone is used to flurescents? I dunno. But for me it's worth it because I don't have to chance the bulb often. I can give 2 cruds about the environment, but if it saves some money and time, it's good to me!
rasmasyean 1 year ago
@rasmasyean lol on yea im actually "making up" something as ppl that i know getting headaches. ur a religious nut job. or mayb its the fact that it bothers u that MOST ppl like me will not fall for ur green scams. if u think that cfls will save the planet, ur entitled to think that. but I'm proud of my home and i will not turn my house, looking like the inside of a office or an E.R for a MYTH that cfls will save the planet. Not everybody is that stupid.
noreaga12326 1 year ago
@noreaga12326 You just proved that some ppl are stupid enough that they can't read.
rasmasyean 1 year ago
@rasmasyean and again, u just proved that ur the governments pet and will do anything he tells u. even if it means making ur house look like crap

I got all of my CFLs at the dollar store and they give a nice light
zeosrule 1 year ago
Sounds like BS, I have Daylight 6500k bulbs throughout my home and my family of 6 loves them. It may have given them a headache if the wattage was too high; we all know how some people use 100w no matter the bulb type.

Why do American anti-CFL videos always show people screwing the bulb in by holding the glass and not the base? Instructions on most CFL boxes specifically state not to put pressure on the glass. Maybe that's why so many people seem to break these bulbs and go into a panic. I have been using CFLs for 13 years and have yet to break one.
Cluster00000 1 year ago
Heres an experiment you can do at home to prove these things are harmful. Take a directional compass and put it close to a CFL with the light on then slowly move it away then back. You will see the magnetic field change.
ibanezrocker12 1 year ago
see that were the old one i know because the same thing happend to me i had a huge migran and with the new ones it doesnt happen

I'll take headaches and save money using CFL's, than to heat up my house and waste money on incandescent bulbs.
pinkyzoey 1 year ago
@pinkyzoey but you don't even save money thats the thing
most cfls dont even last as long as claimed and the intial purchase price is more than 5x that of incandescent bulbs
benchod94 1 year ago
@benchod94
I still have some CFLs that I purchased 10 years ago, that are still working. I replace my porch light bulb about once every 2-3 years, because it's on the most.
pinkyzoey 1 year ago
@pinkyzoey well I can't comment on that but I had a cfl almost set my house on fire when the base started melting, wasn't even a cheapo one it was a phillips.
I got rid of all those and got a pack of ge ones 2 years ago and 5/6 are already dead
they get used about 4-6 hours a day
benchod94 1 year ago
Why isn't anyone complaining about linear fluorescent tubes. They contain way more mercury than cfls and actually use a much larger electronic ballast that emits "dirty energy" ten fold. They are both the same ballast electronic 20Khz but no complaints. Older magnetic ballast are even worse they flicker like a sob and contain PCP"s!!!
bubbafication 1 year ago
leds are was to expensive though i mean cfls are much cheaper and they dont give out that much radiation plus i like the brightness of them
TheBlingBlade 1 year ago
I'm never using them! I got some free ones in the mail from my local power company and immediately threw them in the garbage where they belong. They give off an unnatural light and will NEVER be able to give of that soft, natural glow that incandescent bulbs provide. Fuck congress and government intrusion dictating to us! They are most likely getting huge kick-backs from china to change all these lights out. Come and arrest me now because i'm never switching.
southport97 1 year ago 3
i get a headache hearing these fucking morons maybe i should kill them and they should be replace by newer technology
brightviolence 1 year ago
OK. This happens if you directly starre into those bulbs. LED is the headache causer. CFL is NOT hazardeous like this.
chamath1985 1 year ago
Another CFL problem is that they contain Mercury. If you break one, well you have been exposed to one of the most harmfull things posible.
compukenny 1 year ago
@compukenny Oh, snap. If you exist, breathe air, drink water, eat a fish stick, you're exposed to mercury...
Diosdebaca 1 year ago
What about the thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals used in the LED making process? OK they are not in your house in the LED themselves but where did they go once dirty from being used, and how much enegry and other chemicals is used to recycle them?
antienjigglement 1 year ago
I bought a pack of four thinking I would do the right thing. supposedly they last a long time. HAH! one died after only four months and two more died within a few more weeks. Since they were made in China I hope the store where I bought them can make China repay them rather then just absorb the cost. GE could have made the new bulbs in PA where the incandescent were made but NO, they had to take them to China. GE thinks Americans don't need jobs. Americans don't need GE either.

Just one more way to slow kill us bottom feeders.
brickly77 1 year ago
OH, and by the way, set your monitors to ANYTHING other then 60mhz since it will cause your monitor to flicker! Change it to 70 or 55 or anything other then 60.
salockwood 1 year ago
@salockwood This only applies to CRT and if you set it lower than 60 the flicker will be WORSE.
soundspark 1 year ago
I am not very happy about CFL because three times CFL already burn out and smoke into air. Mecury vapor air that make my left eye become blind for 45 second and restore my left eye to see again for first time. I hate CFL because of mercury and HIGH EMF! I bough LED light without Mercury and some other low 25 or 60 watt incadescend light bulbs. CFL is very dangerous because fire and smoke mecury vapor into air. BAN lousy CFL!
ASLforever100 1 year ago
The announcer is either a liar or a total moron. CFL's most definitely DO NOT "eliminate flicker" -- they CAUSE it, along with all gases discharge bulbs, without exception.
33rdPatriot 1 year ago
@33rdPatriot CFL's run at 20000hz meaning it cycles 20000 times a second incandecents run at 60 hz. Which do you think causes flicker.
bubbafication 1 year ago
@bubbafication u silly man. they have a heated filament which doesnt flicker at all. the filament which once up to temperature is almost completely unnaffected by the alternating current. the gases on the other hand are. man use ur brain.
conceptual0theorist 1 year ago
@conceptual0theorist Are you for real? Research before you comment. "use my brian"? you should invest in one. Have you ever heard of a ballast checker? it is a tool use by lighting installers to identify electronic ballast or magnetic ballast without removing any covers. It works by measuring flckering caused by lights. 60 cycles for magnetic ballast and 20-30K for electronic ballast. What do you think happens to a filament when the power is cycling 60 times a second? Flicker!!
bubbafication 1 year ago
@bubbafication the flicker is not detectable by the human eye. it is barely affected by the ac. but it is affected slightly. i know that flicker can be detected by equipment but the flicker for compact fluorescents is higher. i apologise for being rude as you are technically correct. i just hate cfbs!
conceptual0theorist 1 year ago
@conceptual0theorist 60Hz flicker is detectable by the human brian. You can't see the flicker if you look directly at it but perifiral vision can detect it. It is proven to cause head aches especially in offices with old magnetic ballasted fluorescent T12 lighting and is rectified by retrofitting them to electronic ballast which are the same ballast used in cfl's. this flicker is also present in incandesents.
bubbafication 1 year ago
My questions are: Why do they contain mercury? What is the purpose of the mercury in the light bulb? And is it possible to make them without mercury?

LuvSpreader 1 year ago
Everyone's different but I'm overly sensitive to these light bulbs. It's not JUST about migraines. They bother my eyes alot which wears me out. And for years it's been recommended that people that work under them where some kind of hat. They can make a person tired, they do me. . Theres is better information out there then just what's reported here...why was the report, although informative just mediocre. FYI LED's bother my eyes as well.
dolores206 1 year ago
I had a cfl in my room, and of course I found they give me headaches. I now have an led light, no headaches, no sore eyes, and a much better quality of light!!! Amazing!!!

Might not be a good idea for the blend it guy to blend a cfl lol

I say skip the CFLs and go to LED. Its better for the environment and lasts longer!
AlexB2311 1 year ago
Change the frequency that now is 50Hz.
This lamps pushed up the AC to get the gas glowing.
But it also pushed up the enormous electricity pollution.
And this is the problem and effect us.

i have thim cfls ligh bulbs in all of my lights
firelitealarms997 1 year ago
We've had CFL's for over 6 years and never got a headache from them. I buy the ones from big box hardware stores, not the ones from the dollar store that have a weird blueish light. I bought just one of those cheap ones from the dollar store and did bother my eyes.....Maybe cost / quality is a factor.

@sirmasterpimp we've had thim for 7 years and thay are nice

this video is retarded.

NicoleJ85VA 1 year ago
Even Prevention Magazine is saying not to use these bulbs because of radiation exposure. See the January 2010 issue or go to website and type: CALIFORNIA CLUSTER in the Keyword Search box and then read "Is Dirty Electricity Making You Sick." They have a HUGE amount of info on this and it will scare you out of your mind. They say "Avoid compact fluorescent bulbs, which emit dirty electricity. A CFL saves energy by turning itself on and off repeatedly, as many as 100,000 times per second."
jasminekoto 1 year ago
What the fuck, you morons? EM radiation has NO fucking effect on any human being. What the fuck gave you that idea?
The only health hazard these things cause is if you break them. And the only way that can be a danger is if you don't have the brain power required to ventilate the room.

Oh wow! My entire house runs on Fluorescent CFL bulbs :S although I don't get headaches often... unless I'm stressed out. By the way... are our fixtures even able to put in LED bulbs?
