Yes the Prince Eugen and about 70 other ships including some famous Japanese ships, were set up around a nuclear test site. It was called Operation Crossroads. Nukes were dropped at the center of the groups, and the Navy watched the results, The Prince Eugen survived the test as did many of the ships, but she was too radioactive to repair the leaks she did have. She was towed to a location and capsized Dec22 1946

Yes - but foolish or not, it was part of the treaty of peace that Prinz Eugen was handed over to the US. And today most Germans can´t see the ship as a part of history, for them it´s a part of Nazi Germany. So there is no interest to bring it back - what would be possible.
But look at the history of the Royal Navy. Only the Belfast survived from that era whereas in the US you´ll find about 10 old battleships, one carrier and many other old museum ships.

The Type XXI "Elektroboote" was a magnificent example of U-boat technology, which if produced earlier and in quantity could have turned the Battle of the Atlantic in Germany's favor.

Yes the Prince Eugen and about 70 other ships including some famous Japanese ships, were set up around a nuclear test site. It was called Operation Crossroads. Nukes were dropped at the center of the groups, and the Navy watched the results, The Prince Eugen survived the test as did many of the ships, but she was too radioactive to repair the leaks she did have. She was towed to a location and capsized Dec22 1946

Yes - but foolish or not, it was part of the treaty of peace that Prinz Eugen was handed over to the US. And today most Germans can´t see the ship as a part of history, for them it´s a part of Nazi Germany. So there is no interest to bring it back - what would be possible.
But look at the history of the Royal Navy. Only the Belfast survived from that era whereas in the US you´ll find about 10 old battleships, one carrier and many other old museum ships.

I know the story. They could have given it to the Marinebund in Wilhelmshaven or to private ownership. As you said, the battlecruiser was 60 years old and stood for the first world war, not the second. In this case I don´t care for the world´s opinion, if there would have been any, what I doubt. Besides that I´m pretty sure that there are enough voluntaries that would love to care for a ship like that. It would have been a unique museum for old technology.

First of all, the Germans did not allow 200.000 British troops to flee at Dunkirk, We were being fired upon the whole time as the Germans wanted to kill us all. We were rescued by the Royal Navy and the men of the little ships. Britain did not bomb any German cities until after the Germans bombed London in 1940. Then we bombed Berlin in revenge, and we destroyed Germany's big cities after that, with our Lancasters etc.

You see, Spotswood,British history does not tell the truth, when AH offered peace in 1940, your war criminal Churchill rejected it on the basis of his own disastrous career, everything he was part of including the Anzac Cove Landing ww1 was a disaster. It was taught to us that the Bolsheviks had destroyed his rich peasant class, as they were an obstacle to the establishment of collectivisation. I now know the truth, their entire class was destroyed in order to destroy Christianity within Russia. The Bolsheviks had to murder them all, and they succeeded. Christianity has no base in Russia today

We were desperate at the beginning of WW2, you are quite right, and if the British people were like most other people around the world, then we could have stayed out of WW2, for the time being only. Later in the war however Hitler would have wanted Britain as wel,l to add to his nation plundering. What happened after WW1 was due to the German aggression at the time. We were determined that Hitler gain no land at all.

@boruone77 Actualy Britain and France along with the USA, have pumped many millions of dollars etc into Germany from 1945, up to the present day, just because we couldn't afford it in 1945 does not mean that we never have. Oh and with regard to Greece, the financial assistance was given by the EU as a whole, and not Germany alone. And Britain pays equally, the most in to the EU every year, compared to other countries. As I have said before, the United Kingdom is the major player in Europe.

My old man's ship HMS Diomede was tasked to find and engage this ship after the sinking of the Bismark, it is a good thing they did not find it as i would not be posting this text Dad knew she heavily outgunned the Diomede but the captain apprarently wanted to try to sink it with torpedoes, he said they would not have got close enough. both ships went through the war dimede was broken up in Scotland in 1946
